Authentic Fabulous Dive 8/10/2010

This is may favorite joint in Chinatown for a quick delicious authentic Chinese meal late at night. Their specialty is dumplings, and they have a nice variety of vegetarian and meat dumplings in soups, steamed, in broth, and with noodles. The service is no nonsense and straightforward, so if you are one of those people who thinks that paying five bucks for a bowl of food makes you deserving of royal treatment, go pay way more somewhere else for much worse food. It is a very small establishment, and the tables are close together. For me that has been a plus, since I have been able to observe the dishes I never think of ordering, and point at the delicious fare I see. I think the same waiters have been there since I started going twenty years ago. I always get a dish of tendon, and some combination of dumplings and noodles. In almost twenty years, I have never been disappointed. Cheap and delicious!!! more

My Favorite little dumpling dive 8/29/2008

One night my wife and I were wondering around Chinatown, hungry. We passed many open restaurants that looked tasty, but void of customers. We walked a little further and found the New Wonton Garden, which was bustling for a weeknight (a good sign we thought). As far as appearance it's nothing special. The service is poor. But who cares! The food was AMAZING. My wife is Chinese and she's always picky about her Chinese food too. If you are squeamish about dives and what you can't see behind closed kitchen doors, then this is the dive for you....the kitchen has no door, in fact it doesn't have walls either. It is right out in the open at the front entrance of the restaurant. You can see everything. Pros: Tasty, Cheap, Authentic Cons: Lackluster service (is forgivable considering the food) more

The worst I ever have been treated in a resturant........ 5/9/2008

This was the worst restaurant experience of my life. And that is saying something. I have dinned out, around the world quite a bit. Pros: For those that feel they are unworthy of good service Cons: the whole package,,,, more

Great noodle dishes and cheap eats in chinatown! 4/6/2007

This was our first time here. Restaurant is small but we were seated quickly. Service is okay and you may have to flag your waiter down to get your order taken but food did arrive quickly. The fried noodles were very tasty and we left the restaurant feeling satisfied with our meals. This a good place for cheap eats if your in chinatown! Pros: Tasty noodle dishes! Cheap eats! Cons: Service is a little slow... more

Late Nite Noodle Place in Chinatown 11/13/2006

I didn't think the food would be good---but it actually was. It was a bit crowded. Overall---the food was decent (i had the curry beef stew in noodles)---but the service could be better. (the prices were also pretty good) We were seated last even though we were the first one in line. more

Nice small noodle restaurant 2/16/2006

Been there many times but lately I had went back there to try out their wonton noodles. At one point I felt that the portions were just too little for what I'm paying for. So I stopped going but then the food there had improved. The wonton noodles are sastifying, fried dumplings maybe too much dough but still ok. Over all a nice place to grab a bite to eat. The service is great since it's a small place, you can easily get the waiters attention. Pros: Good service Cons: Tight seating more

Don't tell anyone... 3/2/2005

This is a great place to grab a quick bite and get real chinese food. Granted, it looks kinda shabby and the seating's kinda squished, but the prices are cheap, the food authentic and filling, and they always have takeout! They speak limited english, but the menu is bilingual so don't worry! I always get cantonese wonton noodle soup here, but the chicken is also almost always good. Sometime's there's a long line, if thats the case, just takeout and sit in Columbus Park. Pros: authentic Cons: small, lines more

I Have Five Words... 1/24/2005

Absolutely the best 7/29/2002

Always the best wonton soup, over rice and other dishes. No wonder, I've been loyal to this place for over 10+ years. This is the place for quick hearty food Pros: quick service, inexpensive more

Best Wonton Soup in the Big Apple 6/7/2002

This is the best place to get a warm bowl of Cantonese wonton noodle soup. There are so many selections to choose from, depending on what you'd like to put in your bowl. Also, their appetizers are very good: chinese vegetables w/ oyster sauce, tofu with special sauce, and Opp Hung with ginger and scallion are among my favorite. I have been going here for years. The restaurant is pretty non-descript, though they renovated recently but the prices are dirt cheap, the food is very yummy, and they're open past midnight. more
