I've seen happier fish . . . 9/6/2006

I was disappointed in the New England Aquarium. It looks as if it is not well maintained. The building is old, which was expected, but the interior is sad. They could definitely use some updating. I imagined it to be more exciting and I'm sure it was many years ago. I heard wonderful things about it from family and friends who visited when they were little. There were some nice features. The main tank is located in the middle and goes from the bottom to the top floor. A spiral walkway follows it up and there are plenty of viewing windows along the tank. A the top of the tank you can look straight down to the bottom. The penguin exhibit is entirely open air and can be seen from any floor. In all, I had high expectations and the fish could have looked happier. more

Here Fishy, Fishy, Fishy 4/24/2006

The New England Aquarium is great. They have live shows (dolphins, sea lions) and a giant tank in the center of the building that is 3-4 stories high with a walkway that wraps all around the circular tank so you can walk slowly up to the top viewing all the sea life inside of the tank as you journey to the top where you can then look down into the center. It's beautiful. Very moving, especially if you are someone that loves creation in all it's many forms. The center tank contains everything from sharks to string rays and fish of all kinds. It's absolutely amazing. The aquarium has a lot to see, a penguin section, misc. fish tanks of amazing fish, some from the deepest darkest depths of the ocean that you'd never see otherwise... lots of beautiful things to marvel at. The hands on area is my favorite because you can touch starfish and enjoy some of the living things in a small pool using your fingers. I like that, and I'm not even a child! Children love the New England Aquarium, but it's also fascinating for adults without children. There's an omni max theatre showing nature and popular flicks - and the gift show is very nice. The building was just renovated so it's quite lovely inside. You should go if you're visiting Boston, it's quite impressive. more

I love the aquarium 3/22/2006

We went to the aquarium on a weekday and it was wonderful. The first thing you see are the penguins. I love them they are so cute. My nephew loved watching them, we actually had to move him along to the next attraction. Next time I would love to go on one of the whale watch cruises. I will definitely go back. more

"I can walk like a penguin!" 10/7/2005

I think that was from the old New England Aquarium TV commercial! Anyway, it is a WONDERFUL aquarium and there is so much to see! The penguins usually are the first stop and you could honestly spend hours visiting with them - they are so cute! You can also look in at the little animal hospital they have inside the aquarium. There are LOTS of traditional exhibits that you might expect. There is an enormous sea turtle that you can look down at from above (from the top floor of the facility). There are also whale watch boats that leave from the aquarium, which I believe are connected with it. One unique aspect of this place, which most people don't really know about, is that you can book private functions inside the aquarium! I know a couple of people that held their wedding receptions at the aquarium. If you are looking for a unique, non-traditional venue for this type of occasion, this is a place to consider - it would certainly be memorable! more

great aquarium but needs renovations 9/19/2005

The New England Aquarium, located in Central Wharf, is a small aquarium that is fine for little kids. The place has a central tank which holds many fish. There is also some penguins for the little ones to look at. A main attraction here is whale watching cruises. The cruise depart from the aquarium from April to October. more

Great Museum to Experience All Things Aquatic 8/31/2005

The New England Aquarium is a great place for kids and adults to enjoy marine life in the Boston area. In the center of the museum is a giant fish tank that includes everything that you would find in the ocean, including sharks. Stairs spiral around the fish tank as you make your way to each level. You can also see penquins, seals, and sea lions at the museum. more

Great for Kids! 8/26/2005

This is a great place to bring any children who may have enjoyed Finding Nemo. This is a very “kid-friendly” place and I often see many smiling faces while visiting. The best part, in my opinion, is the exhibit where you are allowed to pick up and hold crabs, starfish, and other sea creatures. The gift shop can be very pricey, as can most tourist attractions such as these. Also, look online for a schedule of what is going on before hand so you can get the most out of your experience there. I strongly recommend the Sea Lion show. more

Love it 8/24/2005

I love the New England Aquarium. I thought the had a nice array of different displays. It is a wonderful place to go with kids. It is a little pricey but I think it is absolutely worth is. I would suggest to any one in the area to go and check it out. They will not be disappointed. more

Attractive, but not a whole lot to it 8/20/2005

You know, at the end of they day they're (mostly) just fish. That said, the Aquarium has a very pretty location, and it's beautiful inside. The poor critters are all displayed well, and they seem as happy as they can be in little tanks. The turtles are adorable, as are the penguins. The rest of the fish range from mildly beautiful to frightening (sharks, even on IMAX film, can really take the wind out of you.) It is expensive to get in, even when you're a cash-poor student. And it's not huge huge (though it is about the biggest any reasonable aquarium can get, unless it's a Sea World.) But if what you enjoy is seeing beautiful things in captivity, this may be your place. more

Not as expected 8/20/2005

I've seen a lot of brochures about this aquarium and it looks like it is an interesting place to visit. However, I was disappointed to find out that the place is actually quite small and it is dark inside the building, which makes it hard for visitors to see the beauty of the fish they have on display. The atmosphere in the aquarium is just not enjoyable. I do not think it worths the price that you have to pay for the admission. Not recommended. more

Great fish! 8/20/2005

The New England Aquarium in Boston is a great place to go to see a ton of fish and other sea critters. They even have penguins there! It is fun to be able to see all of the differnt types of sea life that they have there. They have a bunch of diffrent things, including colorful fish, penguins, sharks, and sea lions. more

Informative and fun 8/16/2005

The New England Aquarium is a great place to go for tourists and natives alike. Their hours are convenient, have short lines, are family-friendly, and serve a wealth of information to its visitors. No matter how many times you have been there, it's a guaranteed fun attraction! The best times to go are early in the day or late in the afternoon. Early afternoons are the worst times because of all the families and school-trips. more

NE's Great Aquarium 8/15/2005

New England's Aquarium is a great place for a family with kids to go all together to visit and see the live animals of the great sea. The sea animals and fishes that are living in the NE's Aquarium just make your eyes open wide! There is also a 3D iMax theatre, part of the Aquarium, that is just awesome! more

Very nice 8/6/2005

this is a very nice aquarium to bring your kids to and close to the T station. They get to see and experience the sea life, first hand, and even get to touch the fish at the very top of the central aquarium. For the price you pay to get in, it's a nice collection of the marine life, and you get to see a sea otter's show! more

Fun for the whole family 8/5/2005

Right now they have a new thing going on with jelly fish. I just loved it and the kids had so much fun. Having not been there for a while I had forgotten how much it can be. The thing that was so funny is watching the penguins and the Dragon fish (which at first look like some kind of twigs in the tank) there is also a great whale watch there and in walking distance of many restaurants. more

This aquarium is really good 8/5/2005

The selection of sea animals here are exotic and cannot be found anywhere in the city. The price is expensive but is definitely worth it. Go here if you want to see lovable sea creatures. I personally love the penguins. You will also learn much about those creatures and their habitats. Have fun and learn at the same time! more

Best aquarium I have ever been in 8/4/2005

The New England Aquarium is a great place for anyone who wants to have a good time and be enlightened. There are giant tanks with all kinds of sea creatures, including sharks and turtles. There are also demonstrations and feedings that are interesting to watch. Also there is an IMAX theatre in the aquarium for those who want to watch the animals in their natural habitats. Get free tickets from your local library if you want to save money coming here. more

average aquarium 8/3/2005

this is a pretty average aquarium, they do have a nice penguin exhibit, and they also have some nice shows. it's pretty reasonable as far as price and for an afternoon it's a kind of nice get away in the middle of the city. I would bring people to it and spend the afternoon! and do some shopping downtown! more

Smaller than most, but good use of area. 8/2/2005

The New England Aquarium is built around a large central salt water tank. The exhibits spiral up around it. At the bottom is a popular penguin exhibit. You can shine a fish shaped light on the floor of the tank and the penguins will follow it. At the top of the tank you can watch them interact with sharks. I remember the electric eel being popular to watch (complete with a voltmeter nearby) and a tank where you can interact with small water animals (starfish, etc). The entrance cost isn't too bad compared with other aquariums I have been to. There is a good sized, yet pricey food court attached for lunch. more
