Expensive, but worth it 6/4/2006

I worked with New Age Designer during the summer of 2005. They custom made a cheong sam for me for my wedding. I had shopped around, and found that they had the best fabric with the exact embroidery that I wanted. I found the customer service was very good, even though the ladies there can be bossy. I recommend going with an older chinese person (like your mom, aunt or grandmother), so they don't push you around. Other than that, the people there are great. They listen and help you make choices. I had three fittings all together, and my dress came out PERFECT and beautiful. One other downside was the price. Very expensive, but for me, it was worth it! Pros: craftsmanship Cons: expensive more

Highly Disappointing - horrible experience 11/3/2005

My chi pao didn't fit my figure right even though it was supposedly custom-made - too short, the top was cut too high. Material was flimsy and light. When I expressed disapproval in what they were doing, they would tell me that they were the experts so I should listen to them. When I finally wore the dress on my wedding day, the collar was too small and wouldn't close. Upon bringing it back to the store, they wanted to charge me an extra $20 on top of the $500 I already paid for a mistake they made. Then they told me to come back in one month and when I did, they told me it wasn't ready. No call or anything but made me waste a trip from NJ that day to pick it up. This place is not worth the aggrevation. Pros: Good variety Cons: Expensive, Poor customer serivce, Unprofessional more

Had my wedding chi-pao made here. 9/26/2002

They do quality custom work with high-quality materials, so don't expect ""Chinatown prices"". I had a chi pao made for my wedding and it was (even though we bargained in chinese!) as expensive as my husband's new, tailored designer-label tux -- but it was worth it to me and my family. The gown was beautiful and the fabric was stunning; they have some nice selections and even do modern interpretations of traditional items. They can also make chinese-style clothing with western materials (tweed, gaberdine, etc.), but expect to pay just as much, or more, for the pieces (we're talking >$300 for a long shirt/tunic). more
