Been to Kalga many times and for the most part the food is good. However, I often find that it is over salted and over spiced. Someone in the kitchen has a heavy hand with the sal...

Great tasting 9/3/2005

Every dish I have had at Kalga was interesting and delicious! Their food is made from scratch and the menu ranges from Japanese to Mediterranean to Indian and more. All vegetarian and organic, many vegan dishes. You couldnt ask for better tasting food than at this place-- must try. Prices here seem to be a little above average, and its easy to run up a high bill being that there are so many great dishes to try. Not outrageous, by any means but you pay for the time and effort put into the meals. Kalga keeps some different hours so make sure they are opened before you go! (5 p.m. to 2 a.m.) They also have a full bar and strong coffees. Expect a charming atmosphere, fascinating art, and world music being played. Pros: Organic food, variey of tastes, full bar Cons: dinner hours only more

We Love K A L G A !!!! 4/15/2005

After living 2 miles down the road from kalga for about 1 year, and never visiting, my girlfriend and I decided to stop in for a bite to eat. This was 6 months ago and we have been going back to kalga a few times each month ever since. Kalga Has: ambiance, mood, polite respectful service, fast seating, variety of menu items, and healthy great tasting food. This is why we love kalga. Their fresh made eastern style rice pudding is to die for and their Chai tea is the bomb(although $2.00 for a small cup is a bit steep, I would buy more if it was $1.50 but that's just me. Their best deal is the $6.00 falafel sandwich. It is very good and if it was $10 I would still order it. Its also a great spot for a late night chill destination as well. I highly reccomend! Pros: service, menu selection, price more

Vegetarian for everyone 12/13/2004

The atmosphere at Kalga is dark, cozy, and romantic. The menu has a variety of cuisines (mostly Indian and Thai) and my non-vegetarian friends have always found something delicious to eat. The organic food and beverage factor is also a plus. The prices are appropriate - you can definetely eat there for cheap. Pros: atmosphere, food, price more

Superfantastic 8/22/2004

I have been a fan of Kalga Kafe since it opened, and though it is true there has been some adjustment to hours here and there one thing has stayed consistant -- Amazing Food! The chole bhatoreh (sp?) is to die for, and the samosas are incredible. The atmosphere is enchanting, the food is brilliant, I highly reccomend this place! Pros: Ambrosial Cons: , but not awfully so more

Don't waste your time 6/15/2004

Kalga Kafe is a waste of time. When I first went I was impressed with the great food and service. The second time I went we showed up 5 minutes early and the rude waitress made us wait outside in the rain. We waited for 15 minutes and it still wasn't open so we left. We went a month later and they had reduced their hours. Ten minutes past opening time, the open sign was lit but the door was locked. Someone was inside sweeping up and could see us but made no eye contact. 20 minutes after opening time, they unlocked the door but didn't even hold it open for us to let us know they were ready or anything. Again, we left. Don't go here unless you enjoy being treated rude and made to wait. The food isn't worth the frustration of trying to get in the door. Pros: tasty food Cons: , rude servers, inconsistent hours more

Best Ever! 6/9/2004

I visited Kalga Kafe for the first time last night after wanting to try it for months... I am glad that I finally made it in. Everything about this place is amazing. The service was top notch, the food was outstanding and the atmosphere was amazing! We tried the Pad Thai, Dal and Nori Roll. We also sampled an amazing organic red wine and one of their great beers. I have never had a more pleasant first impression of a restaurant in my life! This is my new favorite place, if I could eat here every day...I would. Pros: SUPER TASTY food, GREAT service, FANTASTIC Atmosphere more

go for lunch 3/25/2004

delicious, delicately spiced, delightful. all of the food is organic, and you can taste the difference. the food selection is a vegetarian's dream ( a little taste of every continent - burritos, pasta, indian dishes, vegan sushi...) Pros: family-owned, organic more

Good food, bad service 10/9/2002

Twice in a week I went- had great meals both times. I waited an hour for the food the first time, 45 minutes the second. The first time the server was friendly and helpful. The second time, another server just about ignored us for 40 minutes while my partner ran out of water. Pros: affordable, great food, great ambience Cons: wait time, service more

Go to socialize, not to eat 8/20/2002

The drink and menu descriptions sounded unique, but when it came down to taste, the offerings were average (maybe even a tad below.) They do get high marks for atmosphere, and service was friendly. What is this place: Japanese, Indian, Earthy, maybe all three? Another user noted that the prices were liveable because the food's organic, but I'm not a big fan of that theory. Prices are liveable because of taste. If there's no flavor, then the portions better be huge and the prices very low beacuse now I'm eating because I'm hungry, rather than looking for a dining experience. Cons: uh, only the food more
