WOW

Incredible food. Advised to go there by a cop at the WTC rebuild. Excellent food, great prices. Will be going back for sure

Worst

Checked this place out after noticing it on Citysearch's Best of Lists. We were very disappointed. The food is sub-standard compared to most other Chinatown eateries. It's grubby,...

Best damn dumplings period. 1/11/2010

I love this place the food is the best ever!!! I have eating in some nice places, upscale places as well and not one can stand up to this one. Their fried pork dumpings are mouth watering; the peanut butter and scallion flavors awaken your taste buds right away. If you love great chinese at a reasonable price this is it. You may get a little discouraged from the decor which says nothing about the food; but trust me, you'll forget all about that. the fact that the batroom is way down stairs and its as big as a shoe box may make you want to have a bottle of sanitizer close buy. But over all this is my favorite place hands down, were going to pig out there this weekend forsure. more

Alright. 2/10/2009

I live in Chinatown, so I've tried most of the food there. It's a mediocre restaurant for me. The rice cakes aren't that flavorful, and I'm not a big fan of their shaw lou bao. I've eaten many Shanghai restaurant, this one isn't that great or that bad. The place seems to be filled with tourists though, so they must really enjoy it. I prefer to eat at Joe's Shanghai. more

The best Chinese food I have had in a long time 2/9/2009

The culture is interesting - Shared tables. You come in by yourself and they seat you with others.\r The food is very tasty. I liked the pork dumplings a lot. They also had some unusual soups and bean dishes.\r The fried fish I had was very tasty as well. The cold sesame noodles were also very nice.\r I always take my friends and relatives from out of town there whenever they are in the city. Pros: Great food - Low prices - Definitely real china town chinese food Cons: I went off my diet - the dining is casual so its fine for everyday but not a dress up place more

Maybe the worst I've ever had? 1/30/2009

Considering that I am Chinese, the food here for me was disgusting. There was a bad drift of air that smelled like bad tomatoes from the kitchen. The service wasn't horrible. The sweet and sour soup was too sour and tasted like it has been sitting for a while. Highly not recommended. Pros: Cheap? Cons: Food and atmosphere more

How could Green Bo be number one? 12/24/2008

I mean really? Good scallion pancakes, good pork and scallion dumplings, good hot and sour soup, everything else on the menu is subpar chinese buffet quality tray warmed grease. I was so shocked to see this place ranked in the top ten we had to go back and lo and behold it disappointed once again. Not only is the food quality extremely low and tasteless, the restaurant os so dismal and depressing, it's a wonder more people don't walk out on sight. The mint green walls and idle staff are ample forewarning of the meal ahead. The general's chicken was greasy and cold, the soup dumplings bland and mushy, the beef Chowf Fun and chewy greasy mess, beef and broccoli was tough and stringy. The staff here is so terse and inconsiderate, but who would blame them with such ignorant customers. What's more shocking is that with so many great restaurants such a short jaunt away like Peking Duck House or Hop Lee or Grand Sichuan that people would subject themselves to such mediocrity. As someone who has eaten at many of the restaurants in chinatown and some of the more notorious haunts in midtown, uws and ues, i have to say this is one of the restaurants to put at the bottom of the list. I might almost recommend you try it just to see how erroneous this rating is. Nice Green Bo, LMAO! HA! Pros: Uh, it's cheap, it's near other good restaurants. Cons: Poor food, poor service, depressive atmosphere. more

Has gone down hill 11/9/2008

I use to love this place. My family has been eating there for at least 5+ years. My last experience was miserable. I will say the food usually is fast an excellent. This time the dish that typically took 30 minutes to come out (peking duck) was the first to come out. The other dishes, chicken and broculli and broculli and garlic sauce came out later. As the waiter started to prepare the peking duck wraps at the table he knocked a can of soda onto my wife. As those at the table were scrambling for napkins, he continued to prepare the meal. I asked him to stop and get a towel and napkins. Instead of stopping, he continued to prepare the duck wraps and yelled to someone else to get them, they came back with 4 napkins. He never replaced the soda. The rest of the food came and was subpar compared to where is has been in the past. It has gone down hill over the years. At the end of the meal the bill was $70, in the past we had never had a bill more then $50 and we order the same food. We asked for an explaination and wasn't given one. They billed us for the soda as well. We did not tipped well because of the extremely poor service. As we were outside the waiter came out and yelled at us for the lack of tip.\r \r Poor food, poorer service. I would not recommend this place. Pros: Cheap food Cons: Long wait, poor service, small restaurant more

bad service, average cuisine, over rated 9/12/2008

The waiters are a bit rude. We traveled all the way from Chicago to try good food. We go to them just based on reviews we've seen. But they are way over-rated. We ordered the dumplings just to try how it taste, before we order more. We don't want to waste our appetite on average food. If it does not taste good enough, we will go to another restaurant. The waiters keep on pushing us to order more, and looks at us with a skeptical eye. ""That's it? That's it?"" He kept on saying. We were really disappointed when the dumplings were served. They were small, and rather dry. If you are serious about good food and dumplings, I highly recommend the Joe's Shanghai in the Pell St, just the next street down. I think Green Bo is OK, but not as good as they advertise to be. Pros: average food Cons: bad service more

Horrible service 7/27/2008

I would give this restaurant less stars if I could. My friend who lives in the area went there and recommended their shanghai noodles. Upon entering, the first sign that the food would be sub-par was how the locals avoided it like the plague but it was loved by tourists and visitors. I ordered some chicken chow mein which wasn't bad, HOWEVER, before my party and I finished our meal, they slapped the check down, and started clearing our table before we were even finished! If that wasn't bad enough, they ushered in the next party (a group of tourists) and had them stand behind our table. I was finished with my meal, but my friends were still working on theirs. Then the owner, I believe it is the woman from Shanghai, STOOD IN FRONT OF OUR TABLE, GLARING AT US. I mean, literally she was pressed against the edge of our table leering down at us for a few minutes, basically signaling in not so many words, that we should pack up our food and go. It was so incredibly rude. I will never go here again, and I will tell every one I know to avoid this place unless they want to be disrespected. There is nothing ""NICE"" about Nice Green Bo. Cons: Rude service, horrible treatment of the locals. more

WHAT HAPPENED? 7/13/2008

My husband and I used to go to this restaurant all of the time, back when it was called ""NEW"" Green Bo. It was amazing, espeically the soup dumplings, which would ooze delicious ""pork soup"" when you bit into them. All other dishes we would order were equally amazing.\r After a 6 month period of not having visited Nice Green Bo (as it is now called), we were completely disappointed. We are hoping that they were just having an off night, since we loved this place so much and made it a legend amongst all of our friends and relatives, who we would frequently take with us. The soup dumplings were completely dry, and the meat was grainy, and just not tasty at all. We also ordered the chicken with peanuts, which we used to love, and it tasted like old dishwater. We really are praying that this was just a off night and not a new chef or new ownership, because we would miss our old favorite Chinese restaurant. Pros: inexpensive Cons: used to be good, new ownership? more

Amazing Dumplings 4/14/2008

This place has great dumplings and big portions. I eat here more than any other restaurant in manhattan because the dumplings are that good. The prices are very reasonable and service is fast. This is not the type of place you go with 5 or more friends. This is not the type of place where the server kisses your a s s. The place is really small and many times you will be seated at a table with other customers. I've only been here once that it wasn't busy lunch dinner or in between. As for the other reviews complaining about the cleanliness get over it. You wouldn't eat anything if u saw how it's really made. Besides this is new york city r a t s are everywhere and have you walked around chinatown before? not that clean but is one of the best parts of the city. I do admit the bathroom looks like something from a horror film. Overall I highly recommend eating here. Save room for the ice cream across the street. It's really good and fresh. Pros: amazing dumplings Cons: don't go to the bathroom more

MAPO TOFU! 1/6/2008

Hey, if you're a broke college student hoping to get some good cheap chinese, def go to Green Bo. I love their Mapo Tofu! And their sholompo (water beef dumplings). Yes it's crowded, so grab some friends, and make it even more crowded! Pros: The food, the prices (check the back, that's where the cheap meals are) Cons: The crowd more
