I checked out the Neo-Futurists' heralded show ""Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind"" on Thursday and was truly impressed. They managed to make me laugh and shed tears, and I ...

So much fun! 4/22/2006

I loved the show "Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind." It was pretty off the wall and not at all what I was expecting...but then again I really wasn't sure what to expect from this place! You have to climb all through the building to get to the area where they put on the plays and roll a die to determine the price of admission. I especially loved the Hall of Presidents! They have interesting artistic interpretations of our first 42 presidents. My favorite featured JFK as an angel proclaiming "Ich Bien En Deity." After rolling the die, you get a goofy name tag with a strange name (I was Yee Haw and my companion was "I love Yee Haw"). The plays in the show range from intense emotional insights into the player's life to the ridiculous, like "April Showers." In this "play" they just sprayed the audience with water! It's a great show to check out! more

Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind 8/21/2005

The Neo-Futurists are, simply put, amazing. From entering the theatre (up the stairs, through the kitchen, and then into the state park) to getting your nametag (never with your actual name on it - I was "beatbox") to the actual show, the whole experience is fabulous. They have a great mix of the political and pop-cult, the irreverent and serious. Truly great. more

60 skits in 60 minutes 8/12/2005

I really enjoy have to roll a die to determine how much it costs to get in to the show! If they sell out, they'll order pizza and pass it out during the show. They try to do 60 skits in 60 minutes, and if they run out of time, they WILL NOT do the rest. So its fun as kind of a one time thing-bring friends from out of town... more

More than just Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind 8/6/2005

The Neo-Futurists are perhaps most well known for "Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind", which is, despite it's name, not about infant abuse, but rather is an attempt to put 30 plays on stage in, oh, one hour or so. This is one of those concepts that you really have to go and see to understand, and given that they don't charge very much at all ($7 + a roll of a die, or $8-$13) you really should get out and see them! Besides TMLMTBGB they also put up a variety of other shows. You'd think they would get bored of doing TML... by now, but actually they keep reinventing the show so it's never quite the same. They also bring TML... on the road, so if you have a large group you can ask them to come in and perform for you. Their theater, the 'neo-futurarium', is, um, weird. It's not so much a theater as a converted space which they kind of rigged up with seating. more
