Worth a short visit 8/20/2005

Visiting the "National Cathedral" is free, but donations are recommended. Regular tours of the interior are provided, which detail the history behind much of the gigantic, gothic styled church. Having only been finished in 1990 (after almost 100 years of construction), construction is still going on around the buidling (e.g. adding a parking lot). Street parking is available. more

Not only for catholics 8/19/2005

The National Cathedral is one of Washington's most beautiful and famous non-political locations, and this reputation is well deserved. The Cathedral itself is an imposing gothic building, fantastically tall- that is visible from miles away in certain parts. The gardens are equally impressive and beautiful. This is one great place to take pictures at. Go and visit, even though the assistants are sometimes a little harsh. more

A Surprisingly Good Find 8/18/2005

In the basement of the National Cathedral, located at Wisconsin Ave & Massachusetts Ave, is a museum shop that's probably the best museum shop I've ever been in to. Nice, but something seems off 8/18/2005

For a country without a national religion, it seems strange that there is a "national" cathedral. The building was completed in the 1990s after almost 100 years of construction. The architecture is gothic, and it is impressive. However, the engravings around the buildings commemorating donors to the cathedral are weird. Only in America would a cathedral honor individual donors on its walls. more
