They get really creative with their creation but not really high quality stuff. Their rolls are huge and stuffed with silly imitation crab and badly made eel. I don't think they get the concept of finer food, quality and not quantity. Sushi is about quality and not quantity. When they brought out the Narano roll specials I was in shocked. Conclusion: Low quality, they need to improve it and not quantity. If I want quantity I would go get a burger! Pros: nice location by my apartment Cons: bad quality more

Good Sushi 7/26/2009

I work close by and have had lunch there many times. I have never been dissappointed with the Food. The service could be better. Language barrior is my guess. Great Volcano Rolls!!! Sushi and Sashimi have been very good too. I have brought several 1st timer sushi eaters, and they have been converted to real sushi and not just a California Roll. So, with service aside, I continue to enjoy the Sushi and prices are reasonable. Pros: Great Specialty Rolls Cons: Wait Staff not very Attentive more

I am generally really sensitive to fish, and i know for a fact that this fish is fresh. 1) i didnt get sick or nauseated 2) it is a resturant that belongs to my brothers friends family 3) I have never heard anyone complain, and 4) all the people i have taken there love it and go back on a regular basis. There sushi is amazing, and if you are not a sushi fan i suggest try the chicken chowmein. It is also a great dish. I am a highly satisfied customer. Pros: great fresh fish, and great service, as well as great food Cons: none that i can think of =) more

Terrible food 2/10/2008

While I didnt get sick, like the other reviewers, I found the sushi quality to be terrible. Not only was the fish low quality, even the rice was not what you'd expect. It was very sticky and even sweet - not japaense rice but some cheap rice. Any other sushi place in Irvine is better, and I've tried almost all of them. Pros: location Cons: terrible food, poor quality, disgusting rice more

Made Me Sick! (Literally) 1/16/2007

Wow! I came on to write about how I got sick two nights ago from Narano Sushi and found the previous review! Looks like I'm not the only one :) While I've gone there mulitple times and usually been satisfied, I got unbeleivably sick two nights ago from their tuna. I have never thrown up so much in my entire life, it was disgusting. And also like the previous reviewer, called to warn them about it (not asking for anything in return) and was treated rudely. I actually think that they thought I was making it up! Please avoid this place for your own health! more

Unfresh fish. Threw up all night long...and then some. 12/14/2006

I went to this place because of a few good reviews. ordered a fair amount of food ranging from rolls to sashimi. (soft shell crab, rainbow roll, yellowtail sashimi, fatty tuna sashimi, salmon sashimi). The food wasn't that great. Nothing was spectacular but nothing worth being upset about at the time. The waitress mistook our order and gave us (and charged us) double of a few items we requested 1 order of. That night when i went home, i threw up so hard i thought my eyes were going to pop out of their sockets. All night, all day. AND i had an interview the next day. Needless to say, i was very unhappy with it. I knew it didn't look as fresh as other places i had been to, but never expected it to be this bad. I called to let them know what happened and basically to warn them that the batch of fish might be unfresh hoping that no one else would suffer the same fate as i did. I didn't want or ask for any kind of compensation or credit towards a next meal ( i wouldn't have returned even if they offered a free meal). But their attitude and the way they handled the matter was so obnoxious and unhelpful. All i wanted was for the sushi chefs to check out the fish...look at the color, maybe smell it...to make sure it's fresh for future customers but they couldn't even do that much. I'm sure there are many people who've had good experiences witht his place, but this is just one story to be aware of. more

Awesome Sushi 6/16/2006

My wife and I love this place. Sure, the decor is a little dated... but you won't even notice because the sushi is so good. If you are "Americanized" in your sushi tastes, we highly recommend the Philladelphia Roll and the Crazy Roll. Oh my goodness. So good. On a side note, we recently moved and are further away from Narano. All I have to say is -- it's definitely worth the drive! Pros: Great food, friendly service. Cons: They continually play sappy love songs. More amus more

Best Sushi in Irvine 1/25/2005

My wife and I searched high and low for a great sushi restaurant, going out to Costa Mesa and even down to Laguna Beach to find the best place. Though we were more pleased with the latter than the former, the buck stopped once we found Narano. Awesome fresh fish and great prices. You have to try the volcano roll and their special baby lobster volcano roll. Decadent. You'll love it! Pros: Fresh, Delicious, Inexpensive more
