Great if you are Japanese 2/13/2009

My friend and I arrived around 9 one evening. The staff was seated at a table evidently having their dinner. They appeared to be annoyed to help us. I ordered shrimp tempura that was served medium temperature and greasy. It appears that the oil had cooled a bit. My friend ordered sushi - which she said was good. Our food and our check were delivered simulaneously. The Japanese beer was quite expensive. We went to this place because a couple of our Japanese friends highly recommended it. They even mentioned a room in the back that they frequented where the food and service were very good. Not our experience. Never went back.\r Pros: Evidently good sushi - although I'm not a sushi person Cons: Other food just average (but expensive), service poor. more

Slowest Service, overpriced food and over-rated ... 12/29/2006

The experience we had recently at this restaurant was absolutely the worst. We arrived at about 6:45PM on a Thursday night, a slow night. Nobody to greet us at the front. After a few minutes we were shown to our table. The place was not busy. There were 4 people at the sushi bar and about half of the tables were occupied. Our drinks were ordered... a beer, ice tea, Japanese tea and a strawberry daquiri. All but the daquiri were served within the normal timeframe. The daquiri, however, was at the bar for ten minutes, next to another patron's drink. We ordered a Gyoza for appetizer, Tempura & chicken teriyaki combo, a teriyaki chicken dinner, a Chirashi Sushi and a Sushi Sashimi combo. The 1st 3 items were served about 30 minutes after being ordered. Bowl of rice, which is normally served with any Japanese meal was not served. We had to ask for it. The Gyoza was warm, not hot as it should be and it should be served prior to the main meal. Thats why its an appetizer...It took another 20 minutes for the Chirashi to be served. By this time, there was nobody at the sushi bar except for the 2 sushi chefs... Another waiter came by to bus the table. He asked if I needed my chopsticks,,, yes, I replied because I'm still waiting for my Sushi & Sashimi dinner combo. It took another 25 minutes for my meal to be served. We finally left at 8:45 PM. This should not have taken 2 hours to have a meal, especially when the 2 sushi chefs were just standing around! \r The food was so-so. Its way over priced. We are not new to dining at a Japanese Restaurant. At this restaurant there was nobody welcoming you with the traditional ""irrashai mase"" greeting nor was there a ""arigato gozaimasu"" when we left the place. This is a poor excuse for a Japanese restaurant. I'm extremely dissappointed with the place. The review I read before I went to Nakamoto must have been talking about another place. Do not waste your time and money at this restaurant!!! Pros: Ample parking space Cons: Slow Svc, over priced food, lack of friendly atmosphere more

Fantastic Fish 3/15/2006

This is the warmest, friendliest sushi spot in Dallas with the greatest variety for the least money. Try the Ono which is a type of swordfish from Hawaii that they sear with a propane torch before serving. The thin seared crust coupled with the soft delicate fish melts in your mouth. They really try to please - and they succeed. Pros: Inexpensive, Don't need valet, Friendly, quiet more

Wow - Great Place! 9/22/2005

Wow, this place was a treat! It is very nicely decorated, had nice low music playing, and it had a real nice display of bamboos and waterfalls. They brought us a warm wet towel to clean our hands and then offered a free traditional appetizer. It was very good. Wine and beer were free that night, and the sushi was very good. For dessert we had the fried banana which was delicious! It tasted like banana pie! The restaurant was very peaceful and relaxing, the waiter and food was great! more

Nakamoto 1/20/2005

For my husband's birthday we had a party of 12 at Nakamoto. The restaurant was not busy, but our service was extraordinarily slow, many orders were wrong, and they messed up my husband's order so badly that he didn't get to start eating until everyone else had already finished. We received no apology, no discount, no sympathy. Their food is way overpriced and not even very good. Our entire party was extremely disappointed and we all regretted going there. The service was so slow that we were there for over 3 hours. What a waste of time and money! Pros: atmosphere, not crowded Cons: , overpriced, apathy more

Incredible. 12/17/2003

This place has been definitely underrated on this site. This place is small, quiet, and intimate, with gorgeous decor, great service, and even better food. Everything is perfect. There are even rooms to have Kaiskeki Ryoori, which are elegantly set up like a traditional Japanese household. Pros: Wonderful Setting, Incredible Food, Wonderful Servers more
