Love Nacho Mama's 1/13/2012

I went to Nacho Mamas with some friends for dinner. What a real treat! Food is a nice fresh spin of Southwest. I had real pulled chicken in my quesadilla and my friends had a Cuban wrap with sweet potato tots and my boyfriend had Fish tacos which are soooo good and light. All of it was yummy!! Not that mush they serve you at the other Mexican flops. This is what you want if you miss Texas and you want to speak English to your waiter & know they will understand you. more

chili relleno rocks 3/8/2011

yummy food! always good. Service is friendly but sometimes they seemed a little rushed. although it might have something to do with the stairs. more

Best Mexican in Richmond 11/22/2010

Nacho Mama's has been a great Carytown Mexican Restaurant for many years. The food is consistently good and the Margaritas are one awesome!!! I enjoy going there for lunch or dinner the prices are great for all the wonderful delicious food you get. The Camarones Diablo are my favorite appitizer and the Carne Asada Burrito is my favorite entree. The one thing I like the most is how the freindly staff always remember me and make me feel like family. I like the fun casual atmoshphere even when I am having a bad day I leave Nacho Mama's with a smile on my face. I recommend this place to anyone who hasn't been to Nacho Mama's and those of you that have been here know what I am talking about. more

Very Poor Service and Charges of 5 Star restaurant 10/20/2009

I was very uphappy when Manager told us the Margarita was $6 but when we show the bill was almost double. Also I don't appreciate 20% Tip added to the bill for the lousy service. Pros: location Cons: Very expensive, Closet like environment more

Worst Expeiance ever, Overcharged their customers. 10/20/2009

Our waiter was slow, service was bad, food was cold, drinks were overcharged, Margarita was over $12+, the 20% tip was added in the bill for two people. I would not reccomend this one to any one. there are many good restaurants in the area. The manager is irrisponsible, floor was dirty and Filthy. Pros: Expensive Margarita's Cons: Service, food and over charges more

love this place 8/17/2008

Nacho best 8/11/2008

A group of friends and I went to Nacho Mama's during the Watermelon Festival this past weekend 2008. We of course understood how busy it would be and it only took about 20 minutes to sit. When we first arrived I ordered 2 watermelon margaritas and the manager gave me 2 lime ones. After taking a big gulp and realizing it was lime, I took them back over to her and her response was, ""the watermelon wasn't ready."" I was amazed at how arrogant she was. I asked if we could get the watermelon when it was ready and she quickly snuffed me by taking someone else's order. When we sat we asked our waiter for the watermelon flavor and explained that we didn't want the lime and we shouldn't be charged...we ordered soon after we sat. Had to ask for our chips to be re-filled (which never were) cancelled the queso that never came and received our meals about 45 minutes after we ordered. We were so starving we scarfed the food but my chicken burrito was very dry and I needed 2 salsas to wash it down. Got the bill and decided we didn't want to wait to fight about the damn margaritas we said we would not pay for. The waiter even made a comment that his manager sucked and he hated working for her. Pros: good salsa okay margaritas Cons: management, customer service, food more

Best place in Richmond for Mexican 6/29/2008

Nacho Mama's was recommended by a friend which I was visiting here in Richmond. I had the best Margaritas and the best Chimi De Carnitas dinner. The place was full of great energy and lots of people. We waited to sit on the Patio and ended up staying there till closing. This place is great for Mexican food, Margaritas, Friendly Staff, and their patio rocked. This is the kind of place that I will come back to when I come back to Richmond and the prices are very reasonable. Pros: Great Mexican Food, Margaritas, Friendly Staff, Cool Patio and Great Prices... Cons: Had to wait awhile for a table on the patio..but well worth it. more

VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE 10/20/2007

BELL CREEK LOCATION - The food is fine but we had a bad experience with the manger on duty. I spoke with the owner and he agreed to look into the situation and provide some free food coupons. After waiting at least a week, I never heard from him . I wrote a letter explaining that he had never responded and that we would never attend his establishment again. I still have not heard from him. I don't feel that he handled this situation professionally. I will not go there again. more

Worst service and management in Carytown 8/14/2007

Ridiculously slow service, unfriendly wait staff, rude and arrogant management. This seems to be the norm for Nacho Mammas. I have been there twice now, and both occasions were marked by poor service. Once I can understand, maybe it was a bad day. But twice is a trend I cannot ignore. Clearly an indication of poor management. The second time was a most miserable experience. I cannot even comment on the food quality because after waiting for over an hour for a sandwich, we left!! Most managers would have been apologetic and and gone out of their way to accomodate us, this arrogant, young fool made a scene by loudly demanding that we pay for food that we did not receive, and threatening to call the police. We said GO AHEAD, get them here NOW. After that he backed off but rudely demanded that we never return. As if I would ever go back there again! If you patronize this place you will be disappointed. The only bright spot in all of this is that with this kind of customer treatment they will be bankrupt in a short time, and a friendlier business, with better management, better trained staff serving better quality food, will take over. Pros: The outside deck is nice on a pleasant day Cons: EVerything else. Poor service, rude management, unfriendly slow wait staff, mediocre food more

Most Horrible Restaurant Experience of My Life!! 8/13/2007

I had frequented Nacho Mamas several times in the past & thought it would be a nice treat for a Saturday afternoon. However, after waiting for over 50 min. for 2 sandwiches we requested to cancel our food order and just pay for the drinks we had (others around us who had ordered after us had received their food which added to our frustration). About 15 minutes later the very sweet waitress came out apologetically w/ our sandwiches in to-go boxes explaining that the manager was only willing to take the price of one off the bill, but we still had to pay for the other. We stated we would not pay for food we canceled (after it had been nearly an hour since ordering). We asked to speak to the manager. He was an RUDE & NASTY, not to mention INCOMPETENT. We offered money for the drinks we had, but he insisted that we WILL be paying for the food since it was already prepared. We said we had canceled it after it was already taking far too long. At which point he got extremely irate and threatened to call the cops. We said fine - call them. He came back 10 minutes later with a bill for only the drinks and while we were trying to pay for them started screaming at us to get up and leave and never come back! (There were 2 girls eating behind us - after the manager threatened to call the cops and left one of them said she was in restaurant management and he/the manager was completely out of line. She heard us cancel the food and not only could he not charge us, but he should be offering an apology and giving us the food! she was also appalled and said we had been nicer than most about not having received our food for so long!) If I could give this restaurant negative stars I would. Pros: nice weather Cons: service - never even got to try the food more

Nacho Mama's Bell Creek Location: 8/8/2007

My wife and I met some friends at the Bell Creek location for dinner and karaoke. Our service was poor and the food was below par. After being seated, with our friends who arrived before we did, we did not receive menus and eating utensils until we asked the nearest server. Our dinner order was not fulfilled to our request and we had to ask for drink refills during dinner. After finishing our dinner, we ordered desert. When our server returned with dessert, she moved my dinner plates toward the edge of the table and set my dessert plate down in front of me. She did not remove the dinner plates. \r \r After finishing dessert, we now had three dirty plates, with utensils and used napkins on top of them, setting in our way on the table. The restaurant appeared to be properly staffed to handle the 30 or so patrons. They had three servers on the main floor, the restaruant manager and the bar tender in the back, and the restaurant OWNER on the main floor. He was seated in plain view of our table. We arrived at the restaurant around 9:30 PM. When the karaoke started at 10:30 PM, our dirty dishes were still in our way. We moved them to an empty table toward the rear of the restaurant. As more of our friends arrived, the dishes kept getting moved further away. Never being picked up by any of the staff. \r \r As the night went, and the dishes lingered, the staff kept with the going trend, our drink orders were getting screwed up (draft beers instead of bottled) and we had to ""flag down"" a server to get service. This is no way to run a restaurant. If the owner leads by example, then I understand why this facility has a revolving door for its staff. \r \r The restaurant is conviently located as a meeting place for us and our friends to meet and sing. This was not the first, but one of MANY disappointing visits. The owner needs to take responsiblilty for the type of staff he employs and take pride in the food he serves. On a good note, the karaoke sounded great! Pros: Well Located, Great Friday Night Entertainment, and Excellent Sunday Brunch. Cons: Consistant Poor Service, Inattentive Management, and Lots of Fights and Riff Raff. more

Great Drinks, Great Deck 3/25/2007

Me and some girlfriends decided to try Nacho Mamas near Carytown this weekend and had the best time. The food was great, but the margaritas were even better. (there were almost too many flavors to choose from.) With the weather being a little warmer, we decided to wait for an outdoor table and although somewhat small, the outdoor deck was very cute and well worth the wait. Once we were seated, we were quickly greeted with a basket of nachos and salsa, and before we knew it, we were sipping on our delicious margartias. Our food came out quick and our waiter did a great job. Overall, I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for good mexican food/drinks, great service, and a cute atmosphere. I can't wait to go back and try some more flavors. Pros: Great food, great service, outdoor seating Cons: small more

Best Carnitas De Puerco Chimichanga Ever!!! 3/19/2007

Me and my family were travling thru Richmond and stopped to dine at Nacho Mamas. The name caught our attention and we were in the mood for Southwest cusine. When we arrived, we were impressed by the decor of the restaurant and were greeted as soon as we walked in. I ordered the Chimi De Carnitas. It was one of the best Chimichangas I had ever had. It was crispy on the outside and it was filled with seasoned pork and topped off with their homemade queso and fresh pico de gallo. My wife had thier homemade Chili Rellenos and she was very exited to see that they actually were ""homemade"" and that they tasted very good. We had a great dinner and I hope ""Nacho Mama's"" makes it way down to Florida. We would love to eat their food more often. Highly recommend this place. Pros: Great food and Service more

Nacho Service! 3/11/2007

Went to the Bell Creek location today of Nacho Mama. Service was absolutely terrible. There were five tables with parties. There were three waitstaff and a hostess. We waited and waited and waited. Finally someone noticed us and led us to a booth. Then we waited again. And waited and waited and waited. Finally a waitress walked past us on her way to another table and my wife stopped her and asked for service. We are sitting there with no chips or drinks and she is asking us if we have been waited on? Finally she took our drink and appetizer order. Came back slapped down our drinks and left again. I had to go over to the waitstation and ask for a straw. By this time my wife and I are getting very upset. We asked her if there was a problem. She stated that they were very busy. Okay! There is a large group over on the other side of the restaurant. They have a waiter dedicated to that table. There are two tables at the front of the restaurant and then our table. Another party came in and sat across from us. There was another party near the waitstation. And there are two waitresses to wait on that ""LARGE"" number of people. About fourteen people total. I finished my soft drink and put my empty glass on the edge of the table. The waitress twice walked past and never said anything or did anything. And we were STILL waiting for our appetizer! Needless to say --- WE LEFT! Cons: poor service more

Great service, cheap drinks, tasty food. 7/10/2006

This restaurant has the best happy hour (3-7pm M-F) specials, the best waitress, and the tastiest Mexican food that I have had anywhere. This is saying a lot since I travel for business 2 weeks out of every month. I highly recommend it and the Carytown athmosphere just enhances the experience. If in Richmond, eat here at least ones. Also the margaritas were very good and only $2.50. Pros: cheap drinks, good food, and great waitress Cons: a little warm inside (especially the bathrooms) more

User review by xuesheng 6/9/2005

the food is tasty, but not the best...then again, i have yet to try fabulous tex-mex anywhere in richmond...the atmosphere location make up for that. because it has very limited space/tables, expect to wait, but it's worth it. the servers are upbeat and the drinks are great. and you can't beat the prices. it's also really easy to call ahead to reserve a table. sat/sun brunches are good, as is the normal menu, but your best bet is probably lunch. Pros: people, prices Cons: small, busy more

Try out nacho mama eatery 3/10/2004

Standard Mexican fare in a hip location. Closest thing to a tex-mex, coffee bar in Richmond. Great Margaritas and a nice place to drink them. Pros: location, clientele, hip-factor Cons: , shabby, non descript more

Great Salsa, Great Atmosphere 10/4/2002

I loved Nacho Mama's. I definitely recommend sitting outside and watching people go by on Cary St. The nachos and salsa were awesome as well as the margaritas. The only thing I didn't like was that the bathrooms were upstairs. It's kind of hard to get up there with people coming down. The place is somewhat small inside, but it is located on Cary St. That makes it quaint yet good for a young crowd. Prices were also reasonable. Pros: great outdoor seating, awesome salsa, friendly staff Cons: small, bathroom upstairs more

The food was average and a little more expensive than other mexican restaurants. But the location is good. The restaurant is not worth the wait to get seated. more
