On October 3, 2014, I lost a very dear friend. He was the most polite, respectful, and obedient dog I have ever met. He was a true gentleman. His name was Festus. I miss him so much, and hate that we had to say goodbye.\r \r I would like to thank all the staff at Myakka River Animal Clinic for all the help and consideration they showed during Festus' physical decline and illness. We were always treated with kindness and a positive attitude. I especially appreciated the article included in the most recent newsletter, “The Quality of Life Scale”. Dr Dawn has been my vet since 1998, taking care of my cats. I have worked for her for the last 3 years. I have had the utmost confidence in Dr Dawn as my vet and have relied on her solely for the care of my cats. \r This is in response to Allysa B. conflict by the receptionist of the clinic:\r When the Grandmother came in to the clinic, I told her she could come and have a seat in exam room 1 with the cat. Since she was upset, I thought this would make her feel more comfortable with the privacy. She sat in the room and told me that she loved the cat so much and was really going to miss the cat. I told her that I was so sorry and that I know it is not an easy thing to have to do. I knew first hand since having to put a few of my own down. We moved to Dr. Dawn several years ago after dealing with a "city" clinic that seemed to be motivated by the bottom line and not by well being of patient or owner. Dr. Dawn is a country vet and by that I mean she treats both small and large animals. We breed and show our dogs and also have horses and pigs. I can't think of a single time I've called for a same day or same week appointment and been denied with the exception of the few times doc has taken a vacation. Because MRAC is a country vet it's run by Dr. Dawn and one or two staff members at any given time. It's not the big time city vet that has a slew of staff members for each and every task. Because Dr. Dawn handles most of the tasks herself her clients get her undivided attention while they're in the office. It's not unusual to wait but I've never been to any doctor or ER and been seen the instant I walked in the door. I had to take my 87 year old grandma to Myakka River Animal Clinic to put her 14 year old cat Lucky to sleep. She adopted Lucky from this place and has been seen there for 14 years. My grandma was placed in a room to wait and after a while, she asked if she could just get it over with. I went to the lobby of the converted home/clinic and someone who I didn’t know came in the door and when I started to ask how much longer it would be, Dr. Dawn Spakowski interrupted me and told me in the rudest, tersest way possible that two patients are being seen at once, my grandma got here second and we’ll have to wait. My grandmother has had this appointment for a week and changed it from a checkup to euthanasia. Dr. Spakowki spoke to me as if this was an enormous inconvenience and she was disgusted I was even asking. I went back to sit with my grandmother. dr.dawn is great vet to my dog named susie pitbull / lab mix she came in with full of heartworms i took her to ark animal clink they wanted to do 2 shoots at one time i took her to another vet they wanted to do 3 shots of vacanies to kill the heartworms if they did that it would have killed my dog than i found myakka river animal clinic she took the time 1 shot to kill the heart worms came back did the same next month and than 1 more time saved susie from death susie was 9 years old lived till she was 14 years old every time she want there dr dawn treated my dog very good more

I would highly recommend Myakka River Animal Clinic. Dr.Dawn and her staff are great! Dr Dawn has been our vet for our horses, dogs and cats helping us with our medical needs for our animals for over 15 years. She was able to give us another year with one of our beloved dogs whom became injured, and when it was his time to go Dr. Dawn & her staff were a great comfort to us. I have been taking my cherished pets to Dr. Dawn for nearly 20 years. She provides excellent care and takes the time and effort to find the best treatment options based on their individual needs. I have boarded my pets with her, too, and always rest assured that they will be well cared for while I'm away. We understand that not all of our Clients will always be completely happy with the experience they have at our Clinic. We constantly strive to do the best job we are trained for and use the best judgment years of experience has given us. I would never take my pet to Dr. Dawn, She didnt seem to care for my pet at all. They man handled my Chawawa just trying to cut her nails and pulled every ligament in every leg. My dog could not even move when she got home. It took a month and a half for my dog to start limping around fairly well. Also caused her blood sugar to drop all the way down so she couldnt move any more..Had to give her sugar when i got home. She only weighs 10 lbs2oz. She was fighting against them because they were hurting her. I didnt even ask for her nails to be cut.\r \r She went to another vet today, his name is Chris @ Toledo Blade Animal Clinic in North Port. She had surgery on her teeth and they said she was a complete Angel.They are very compassionate with small animals. \r \r I cried for weeks over the pain my dog indured inflicted by Dr. Dawn and her helper. I trust Dr. Dawn with all my animals, She takes care of my dog, cat and now my pregnant horse. I had an emergency with my dog and she did an amazing job! I highly recommend her! more

This is a small and friendly office. It is one of the few local vets that takes potbellied pigs. They did a great job handeling my pig. They also take other exotic animals. more
