Fun for kids of all ages 2/23/2012

This museum is always fun, clean and safe for kids of all ages to play in. I highly recommend them to visitors from out of town to stop in. I think it should cost a bit cheaper to get in, but still worth it. Take your kids and enjoy the hands-on activities! more

Beautiful Museum 4/16/2006

If you have a random day off and you're looking for something cool to do, why not check out some museums. I love the Museum of Life and Science because it's fun for families but also for a random date. Also there is a beautiful butterfly garden which is so much fun to walk through. more

great for prom 4/15/2006

Strangely enough, the Museum of Life and Science was where I had my prom. Although it may not be the ideal date for teenagers, I certainly enjoyed it. I can also see how kids would love it. By far, my favorite part was the butterfly house, but there are lots of interesting exhibits throughout the museum which would interest people of any age. more

Great hands on museum 4/9/2006

My girls love this museum. There is so much to explore. It adds to the learning experience when you can touch and play with things and this museum has lots of that ability! The Butterfly house is beautiful (go on a sunny day, the butterflies aren't around much on cloudy/rainy days). My girls love the bubble play area. There are some nice themed birthday parties for kids as well. At Christmas time, the Santa train is a must! The turn their normal train into the Santa train - you ride the train to the North Pole to see Santa at his workshop. On the way back to the station, you look for Rudolph. It is one thing we do every Christmas. more

Great for The Kids 2/2/2006

This museum is a great learning tool for kids and kids at heart. Of all the exhibits, the butterfly house is the most amazing. Not only can you see many species of butterflies in flight, but you can see the various living stages of the butterfly and learn about the butterfly stages of life. The exhibits in the museum are hands on. Don't be afraid to touch things here! more

Great for Kids 12/5/2005

This museum can appeal to all curious minds. First, they have a "static" exhibit. Basically the stuff that will always be there. The exhibits are very interactive and hands on. There are many different components like weather, math and nature. There is one area like a mini zoo to see some animals/insects/reptiles in a simulated habitat. Then there is another area for rotating/visiting exhibits. Outside is a playground which sports different musical implements that agree very loud but fun. As you walk further, there are farm animals like donkey, sheep, turkey, pigs, etc. It's nice but smelly at times. Then as you go further there is the area where you can take a train ride for a nominal fee. I didn't find it that exciting but the kids get a big kick out of it. There is also a cafe which I have not gone to yet. Then there is my favorite, the Butterfly house. Besides it housing a tropical climate where birds, butterflies and moths are there is a nice gift shop and also a display area with many different creepy creatures. It's the closest you'll ever want to get to one of those creatures. There are a lot of educational components to the exhibits. You can also have a birthday party there. My son has attended two and he has enjoyed them both. I would have given them 4 stars if some of the exhibits were working. The kids play hard so I can imagine maintenance can be a nightmare. more

museum 8/20/2005

The museum of Life and Science is a well run orderly museum. The museum is always having exhibits with hands on things for kids to do.Over the last few years they have done some major remodeling like adding a butterfly house where you can walk and sit and relax with the butterflies, you might even have one come land on you. They have also made a cafeteria and added on new sections. They have a fun train that will take you around the museum and the drop you off at the animals were you can literally get face to face with some of the goats and pigs. There gift shop is nicely run and have some cool gizmo's and gadgets i would definitely check it out before you leave. more

love this place 8/18/2005

This is a terrific place for kids as well as adults; the Magic Wings butterfly house is great as is the music park where you can bang around on drums and other instruments. Everything is, of course, very educational and it's a popular place for teenagers to work during the summer. I took field trips there as a kid, and they just keep adding things since then. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area with kids. more

Check out the Butterfly House 8/17/2005

I just loved Durham's Museum of Life and Science! I took my sister there with her kids and they had an absolute blast! There are plenty of hands-on activities for the kids to play with. Try to go on a day that is not too hot because there are fun things for them to do outside, but if it's too hot they won't be able to really enjoy themselves. Before you leave, make sure you visit the butterfly house. It is absolutely amazing! more

North Carolina Museum of Life and Science 8/17/2005

This is an awesome science museum for people of all ages. They have some exhibits aimed specifically at young kids. Kids can make bubbles and play with blocks, shapes, patterns, and colors. They have several exhibits and a beautiful butterfly house. You can see some live wildlife, including alligators, bats, snakes, turtles, owls, fish, an opossum, and a woodchuck. You can also see some live farm animals, such as sheep, goats, chickens, a pig, and a turkey. more

Great for families 8/16/2005

I literally grew up at the NC Museum of Life and Science. It's a really great place that kids absolutely love. From the train ride (where you can see beers and bison!) to the inside exhibits and the petting zoo, there is a ton to do here, with new activities being added all the time. The butterfly house is particularly recommended! more

A wonderful kids' museum. 8/10/2005

This museum has an almost bewildering array of displays. From Bears and wolves, to domestic livestock, to the butterfly house, to the tornado, the huge playground with the steel drums, the bugs, the rocks, the blocks and more, it is a place that stimulates the kids' imaginations. We went and spent literally hours there, and I don't think we even began to come close to seeing everything. You can buy an annual pass and that makes it fairly inexpensive. more

looking for something to do for the kids 8/7/2005

This museum is a wonderful place for children! The many exhibits utilize formats that kids find engaging and fun. Parents will learn a lot too. Educators will like the discounts for family membership. Don’t forget to purchase your train tickets, as this is a must. There are wonderful outdoor playgrounds where the kids can get out their excess energy and bang on pipes for musical effect. Also, the butterfly house is amazingly well done… it's worth the visit to experience this alone. more

Excellent museum for kids of all ages 7/31/2005

The kids and I love this museum so much that we joined. The little kids particularly love the toddler area where they can experiment with bubbles and roll balls down through wire tubes. Also a major hit is the outdoor playground area and farm animals. The train was not as great as we expected, especially since it costs additional. Definitely a perfect activity to take out of town kids too and a good place to join if you live nearby. more

Great Place for a Field Trip 7/12/2005

I have been to this museum several times because I always see something new. The butterfly house is amazing. The museum has several indoor and outdoor exhibits. You can find animal exhibits, space exhibits, science exhibits, and life exhibits. This is a great place to spend an afternoon with your family. more

Wonderful play place! 6/28/2005

This is a great museum, very hands on for the kids. There is a lot to see inside but they also have a train ride outside. There is also a lot of playground equipment to play on outside. The butterfly house is extraordinary, you walk through and the butterflys can land on you. It's a great place to spend the afternoon. more
