Murphys Red Hots

This place could be great, but prices are high, the service needs improvement and their hours are just odd. Frozen hamburger patties turned me off from the start, hot dogs are okay, but repeating 3 times what I want on it because the guy making it isn't listening is annoying. The fries keep me coming back, but thats about it. You're better off buying a dog from the 7-11 across the street. Pros: Fries Cons: Prices, hours, service more

Love this place! There are lots of great places to get a dog in this city, but you can't go wrong with Murphy's. You can get a regular red hot steamed or charred, but if you want a footlong, you better like them charred. Excellent fries and shakes, too. Small but quality selection of bottled sodas in additon to the standards on a Coke fountain. The food is great, but it's the staff that makes this place special, amongst the friendliest in the neighborhood. You'll see a couple signs about never putting ketchup on a hot dog, and one can often find an employee playfully poking fun at someone who wants ketchup before they comply (but they always do). My only, admittedly small, complaint is that they don't use Heinz. Next time you're in the neighborhood, go get yourself a Murph. Usually, my girl & I order 2 steamers, a basket of fries (more than enough), a couple sodas- about $12. more

One of the best hot dog joints in town. Their cheese fries are sooooo good. Definitely worth it if you are in the area. Expect a long wait if you go on the weekends for lunch. It's a popular spot, especially for the locals who stop in before a cubs game Pros: fries, hot dogs more

When I lived off of Belmont, just blocks from Murphy's that was my only place to go on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Those fresh-cut fries were to die for. more
