Murphy's Tavern - Closed

We came expecting to experience the fried okra. They were out of the okra, and several other sides for lunch. Call ahead to make sure what you want is available on the menu. Service was prompt. more

Seriously, don't go to this place. Horrible managment, extremely bad service, really bad food. The managers and waitstaff really don't seem like they want to be there. They have bad attitudes. The food is horrible. For example, their pizza, the sauce is literally Ragu sauce from a can, unaltered. I read a review on here that the parking lot is scary at night. That's not even the half of it. I've heard of at least a dozen cars getting broken into there in the past year. Murphy's did hire a security guard to try to prevent this. But, the guard is only there for a couple hours on a couple nights a week. And I'm sure whoever is breaking into the cars can figure this out easily. I will never, ever go into this place again. If you want better food, go around the corner on Old Pinevill Road to McKoy's Smokehouse. The food is so much better. And ironically, the location is where Murphy's used to be. Cons: Everything more

Enjoyed my time at Murphys Tavern. Appetizers are some of the best you can get. The fried pickles are delicious - the quesadillias are wonderful - and you really can't miss on the others. Their newly cooked calzones and pizza are excellent. I prefer the calzone. My favorite sandwich has been the spicy chicken. I might get one tonight.... I've been to Murphy's 4 times with friends. It wasn't my choice, but I went anyway. 3 of the 4 times, the service was awful. We had to wait forever to get anything. The food was not good either. It just didn't have much taste to it. The attitude from the employees seemed to be that they were doing us a favor by letting us eat there. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that make you feel welcome, and really appreciate your business. Go to one of them instead. Pros: They do have nice TVs to watch sports. Being a family new to the charlotte area, I purchased an entertainment coupon book (i.e. discount on shopping, restaurants, entertainment) and thought I would give Murphy's a try on 08/08/07. Keyed the address into the GPS and headed to the Pub. Once inside, I showed the waitress the coupon (5-8pm .25 cent wings) and placed our order for beverages and the wings. Shortly thereafter, the manager approached the table and stated that they could not honor the coupon! The manager said they would lose money at .25 cents a wing! I can?t imagine how ordering wings will cause a restaurant to go out of business . Not only would we have ordered the hors?dourves, we would have had beverages and entrees (probably $60-75 for the 3 of us). I have been to several restaurants in charlotte that advertised wings for .25 cents during happy hour and for daily specials, but those cheap, unethical, and rude murphy's staff would not honor the book even though the coupon book doesn't expire until Nov. 2007. I can't believe a restaurant would advertise with coupons to get customers in the door, and deceive them by not honoring the coupons (deplorable!). I have since talked with several friends/peers/acquaintances about the ordeal who stated that the food at Murphy's is very bland and very ill-prepared (especially the wings) compared to other restaurants and pubs in the area. Save your time and money by patronizing a restaurant that will promote good will and ethical treatment to the customer...murphy's is not the place for dining! Murphy's Tavern is a great little hang out spot! Filled with regulars and newcomers alike, the ambiance is definately that of a pub but a cute, fun pub. Great food on the menu, lunch items are awesome, and week-night specials on wings and shrimp. Daily drink specials, daily food specials. The staff are very friendly and fun! TVs, with a large screen projection picture, Bands on Weekend nights and Karaoke on Wednesdays all add to this place being a great, relaxing spot. Absolutely recommended! Glad to see a restaurant stay in business in this location. Despite the comments of a few people that have only visited the restaurant once, as a regular I have to say the service is terrific. Support your local restaurants more and they'll be able to staff better and provide more efficient service. It's as simple as that. Can't give anything worthwile and traditional in life just one shot and judge it at that. Karaoke nights are a blast there. No pressure to sing, great KJ's that rotate throughout the week and great drink specials. Friendly serving staff that does the best that they can. Gets pretty slammed in the evenings. Murphy's doesn't look like much. It is usually filled with very friendly "regulars" and sometimes they look like a rough crowd, butr believe me when I say that this bar offers the best bar food this side of the Mississippi. The burgers are great - the cook holds a culinary degree. The waitresses are cute too & witty to boot! more
