the north maket is what my dreams are made off. 10/16/2006

I came to Columbus from a small town. I have never been to a place like the north market before . I walked in and knew the 40 I took with me was not enough for all the things I wanted to buy there. it was more then enough to feed four hungry people with some left over but not for all the stuff i wanted to take home with me. Ok my husband who is a big meat had a couple of things from a butcher there . my friend and I filled up on sushi and curry. our other friend had something from the Vietnamese shop. we ate our food up stairs which was very spacey. I couldn't stop thinking about all the other food I want to try from down stairs. we will go back again soon. when we have the money just to grab whatever we want . this place is a must go if even if your only in Columbus an hour you have to stop in. I have no doubt it will become one usual places to hang out. more

Eclectic Market place 8/5/2006

This is a great place to browse for food. They have stands with prepared foods and others with fresh ingredients. One has great desserts and homemade chocolates. The sushi restaurant is wonderful and fresh. Great eggs from the Egg Lady. Free-range organic meats. Several good vegetarian options including the Indian restaurant and the Italian pizza stand. Benevolence Bakery has a stand that is full of fresh bread and cookies. more

The North Market 6/2/2006

Venture out just north of downtown to the North Market off of Front Street. Great indoor market place with many vendors including fresh produce stands, June 3 they are having a large outdoor farmers market and have them periodically through the summer. The prices are higher then in the groceries, but this way you know where things were grown and have an opportunity for fresher products. more

Fun shopping 4/5/2006

The North Market is a great place to walk around, eat and "window" shop. It's a good place to find some unique gifts. There's a nice selection of restaurants and mom and pop shops. I highly recommend anything from Benevolence Bakery where everything is made from scratch from wholesome fresh ingredients. Grains of the Goddess bread is delicious. There always seem to be festivals, live entertainment and activities going on, on weekends (check out their website). more

very neat 9/22/2005

This place is definitely a place you should visit. They have great food and you can get some neat things here. My husband and I used to go and walk around here for a while on the weekends. We would get a sandwich and a fruit smoothie. The smoothies are AWESOME. It's so different from a lot of other things you'll find in Columbus. more

Something different for a change 9/17/2005

If you're looking for somewhere different to shop then the usual stores this is it! Fresh produce, meat, and specialty merchants will more then relieve you of the same old, same old. I love going and seeing the new things they cook up. The people there are so friendly and helpful! This is one of my favorite places to go. more

Convenient in Downtown Columbus 8/21/2005

The merchants in North Market close to downtown Columbus offer the highest quality fresh and prepared foods, flowers, wine and unique gifts. The unique thing about this market is that their merchant family consists of nearly 20 farmers during the growing season who sell their homegrown fruits, vegetables, flowers and homemade crafts. I like to go there during the lunch break. I come get my lunch and bring my shopping list. Because I can find almost everything I need in this market. more

Great place to find gourmet foods 8/18/2005

This is like a huge supermarket because you can find almost anything here, but they have individual merchants who sell different types of items. It is a great place to find gourmet foods, ethnic foods, and organic foods, as well as fresh vegetables and fruits, meats, eggs, and cheeses. They have it all. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
The North Market is more upscale than your typical farmer's market. It's a place to be seen on Saturday morning, and where the politicos go to get their petitions signed. Multicultural and alternative products are found at 32 stands, which are individually owned (no chains or corporations). There's coffee by the cup or pound, fine cigars and natural home and health products. The place is a real hot spot at lunchtime as it's within walking distance of Nationwide, the convention center and various other businesses.

    The Food
Flavors of India makes a mean mango lassi to wash down your vegetarian plate. Go to Firdous Express for falafel and hummus. Choose between German pastries at Juergen's Bakery or organic baked goods at Del's. Shopping for dinner? Bob "the Fish Guy" will wrap you up a fresh catch to take home.
