Get in line early 3/25/2006

Movies 8 is a Utah Valley landmark. With both a large college and large university within miles of this theater, the shows are always packed, but when the price is just a $1.50 ($1.00 with student ID and $0.50 on Tuesdays), you can’t really complain. Plus the crowds are part of the Movies 8 experience, and they aren’t just college students. With family discounts and a large established local clientele, you will need to get in line well in advance for popular showings. more

Fabulous concept in college town 11/8/2005

Any movie theater that shows movies for 1.50, and .50 on Tuesdays, is great. Especially for students in a college town. Never mind the sticky floors and inability to see over people's heads in the theater - you get what you pay for and that is a great thing at 1.50. It was great to go with groups - something you can actually do since even if certain people don't want to see it, they will for that price. more

Cheap Place for 2nd Run Movies 9/13/2005

Cheaper than renting a DVD and scads less than a 1st run movie theatre – it’s the local cheapo theatre. Movies 8 has multiple screens and shows a variety of 2nd run flicks. They also have midnight movie times for when you want to stay out late. Show your student ID to receive a $.50 discount on the $1.50 admission price for evening shows or go on Tuesday night and see any movie for a discounted rate. Matinees are also $1. This used to be a great place with mostly college age people or families, but it is starting to be overrun with punk high school kids. At the last several shows we went to there were a couple of unsupervised teenagers running up and down the aisles yelling and the manager/ushers never came and ejected them (granted we didn’t leave to go get them) so we started going to the University Mall theatres which seems more family-oriented. more

Value Value Value 9/13/2005

You really couldn't ask for a better price. Sure the movies have been out for a while and the seats and sound aren't as good as newer theaters, but the fact that it's cheaper to take four friends (eight on Tuesday nights for 50 cents a pop) than it is to rent a DVD at Blockbuster makes this the ultimate place to take a date. They try to make their money on concessions, but I've never had a problem taking food in (just don't be obvious about it) since their is always such a crowd. Get their early to get a good seat (or any seat since it seems they often oversell tickets or have a lot of people sneaking in). more

You get more than you pay for 9/4/2005

Lets see... pay 7.50 for a movie or pay $1... tough decision... While Movies 8 still has some idiots that you'd find in a normal theater and the seats and sounds aren't premium, it is still a great way to spend an evening and for only a buck the price can't be beat. A little more crowded than Universtiy Mall Cinemas but it also feels a little more exciting and date-ish... more

Good College town date night activity 8/17/2005

Movies 8 is more than just a theater. It's kind of the BYU/UVSC Friday night hangout. They have an arcade inside that is relatively small but still up to date. The movie selection is really good considering they get older movies and you can be sure to run into someone you know. The movies tend to be interactive with the amount of college students that frequent the theater. more

$1 Movies - You Can't Go Wrong! 8/12/2005

This is a perfect place for a cheap date, or to catch up with all your new releases that aren't so new release but not at Blockbuster yet. There are 8 theaters usually showing fresh off the main theater selections, and they are reasonably priced at $1 for matinee, $1.50 for evening, but $1 if you show your student ID. more

A really cheap movie. 8/11/2005

If you want to see a really cheap movie, head to movies 8. Their movies are dirt cheap. $2 every night and 50 cents on special nights. Their movies are old. Sometimes, even on dvd already. Their theater is pretty dirty, and you have to wait in line forever if you want a good seat. I think that being really cheap is their only strong point. more

Good for a cheap date 8/10/2005

This is a great discount movie theater in Provo. It's only $1.50 for general admission, or $1.00 if you have student ID. Also, on Tuesdays they show movies for only $.50. You can't beat that price. The movies they show are ones that are no longer showing in the full-price theaters, so you won't find any new releases, but it's great for a movie you missed or just want to see over and over. The theater is generally not as clean as the new release theaters, either, but I guess that's the price you pay to see movies for this cheap. Overall, it's a great place to go for a good time on a date or with a group of friends. more
