Nice to see something new in South Allentown. As a long time fan of the Captains Table I was surprized to see it had turned into a sports bar. What a nice surprize to find a mature place to go with friends to catch a game and a few brews without the typical loud music or teeny boppers. My first visit we sat at the bar and with plenty of TV's we didnt miss a play from our favorite teams. Food wise we had the homemade chicken cordon bleau soup and steak sandwichs- The soup tasted as good as it sounds and the cheesesteaks were a cut above the typical steak sandwich. Next visit with a larger group we sat in the back dining room and still could see the TV from our table. We had mostly burgers and they were perfectly done, juicy - great with the tasty fries. Two of us decided we wanted more and we opted for the crapcakes. Nothing else to say except they were fantastic- not filler but lots of firm real crab meat. As we finished up dinner we learned they had live music that night so we hung around a little, Good choice- Single guitar player- name was Leechboy?? very enjoyable and pleasant - all in all i good night and plan on going back soon with out of town friends. If you like a place to go with friends without all the games and noise this is the place - enjoy more

Was once great, now it ain't. 3/15/2012

My spouse & I used to eat at the Mountainside restaurant (formerly and fondly known as The Captain?s Table) often for many years. We?d frequently bring a friend or two & we would ALWAYS tell people that the Mountainside Restaurant has the best seafood in the Lehigh Valley. We always had great meals there. The staff, the chef, the atmosphere & piano player were phenomenal. Alas, all of that is gone now, replaced with another dime-a-dozen sports bar. But not just any sports bar, a CRAPPY sports bar. Although they still pretend to be a restaurant during the week, their dinner menu at 8 o?clock at night offers hoagies. They went from top of the line seafood offering lobster tail & delectable jumbo lump crab to hoagies, fish sticks & wings. They went from ambience to assaulting televisions on every wall. WHAT A FREAKIN? TRAVESTY! We thought we?d give it a chance, and we did on THREE separate occasions. Surely that was a fair trial. But each time it sucked more & more. We ordered nachos & they were served w/ fake cheese. My spouse ordered fish & chips but was given cold fish sticks w/ spoiled tartar sauce which induced illness. Minors serve alcoholic beverages there apparently with no regard for the law. When they have bands, you must dance on carpeting while the band plays squeezed into a corner next to sports TVs that are never turned off. Children play around the bar area & the stairs which presumably go up to the owner?s living quarters. It would seem that they wanted their own personal sports bar where they could live, play & make a couple of bucks. Well, good for them, too bad for everyone else. We will NEVER, EVER set foot in that place again. What a shame. Those three recent experiences have tainted but cannot replace the VERY fond memories of many good experiences & fine meals that we used to have & will cherish forever. We would like to sincerely thank the entire former Wait Staff, the Bartender, the Piano Players & most of all, the Chef. Man, do we miss you. You have all been stellar & you will all be sorely missed. Thank you so much for your many years of great service. As for the new owners, it?s time to get a clue boys. You?ve committed mutiny & the Captain is mighty pissed. more

good food,good service 4/13/2010

I had a small wedding reception there for my daughter. Everything was taken care of. I wanted to light the candles on each table. When I returned with the lighter the candles were already lit. It turned out perfect. Pros: Excellent timing during courses more

I could not in good conscience recommend this restaurant... 2/3/2009

I went there for lunch, and there was a dead gnat on my salad! The manger came to the table and said it was something they have no control over, and offered 5% of my bill! I never returned. Cons: parking, food presentation, courtesy to customers, customer service more
