This place has a really cool theme, decent music and a laidback feel. I was at this bar on saturday night for a friends birthday. It took us more than 1/2 hour to get our 1st roun...

Have a drink With RAMSESS and Dance like an Egytian 10/10/2007

Wednesdays is your ESCAPE INTO TOWN WITH STYLE at MOOMIA --------------\r 6pm-10pm: Have a drink with the Pharaon ------------------------\r 8pm-2am: Dance Like an Egyptian--------------------\r 7-8pm: Open Bar for champagne.------------------------\r \r DJ playing House and Hip Hop. Smoke your Hookah it's mid week and you worked so hard already. You deserve it. Drink some champagne and hang with history and the pharaons. If you are lucky you'll get to meet Ramsess's youngest wife princess ben Anta who is your host for the evening.\r \r This is NYC hot spot where you hand with royalty and get down and dirty on the dance floor later on into the evening. Don't miss it this coming Wednesdays. I surely won't. A blast. more

Good Vibe 9/28/2007

I heard about Moomia from my friends and I decide to make my Boyfriend birthday party there to make him happy and i""ll never regret it .Good choice ,thank you friends. It Was Saturday night, and we got great service before and during the party. This place is not pretentious, there is no waiting in lines, no cover and you not required to do bottle service. Everyone was let in without a problem. If you want to reserve a table you can simply run a tab instead of the bottle service, and others can pay cash for there drinks through the bar or the wonderful waitress. Everything was made very easy and the music was great. Nice place for birthday parties. Pros: Nice House Music /Service more

Nice Sound Too Good for Lounge/Good People 9/16/2007

\r After all the hype I've been hearing about Moomia I had to make reservation. This place met all of my expectations! Despite the fact that I was very late for my table reservation, the people at Moomia were very accommodating. The service and hospitality was excellent, the crowd was fun, beutiful, energetic and the House music was hot..Unlike other NYC spots, everyone left their egos at the door. This place was friendly and just filled with an awesome vibe. Highly recommend this place to everyone! This is a truly wonderfull \r restaurant that turns into a club in the later hours.\r \r \r \r \r \r \r Pros: Sound/Crowd/Music/Atitude Cons: Hidden from People more

Awesome Hookha Bar /Good Martini/Nice Personnel 9/15/2007

This place never disappoints!!! I've been going to Moomia at least once a week since I first discovered it about 5 months ago and I will definitely keep going back for the great (and reasonably priced) food and authentic atmosphere. The staff is friendly and attentive, their hookah flavor is one of the best .I am a big fan of house music and the DJ upstairs plays a lot of it . I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.If you're looking for a great, chill night out with a few or a lot of friends!!! Pros: Lots of Parking Cons: Non more

Terrible service, xenophobic owner. 9/14/2007

I went there with a friend to smoke hookah. After perusing the menu ($15 for a small mixed drink? $250 for bottle service in an empty restaurant on a Friday night?), we settled on no drinks, just hookah. After that, we were ignored by the staff. \r We received no new coals. When we asked for the check, there was a forced 20% gratuity, even though there were two of us. I talked to the manager about why this occurred (since the menu clearly states gratuity for parties of 5 or greater), and he stated, ""It is because of foreigners who do not know how to tip in New York."" I am never going back there again.\r \r By the way, did you notice that all of the glowing reviews for this place are written by people who have only posted 1 review - on the whole website? Something's fishy on Lafeyette St, fellas. Pros: Another hookah bar in SoHo Cons: Overpriced, gaudy, terrible service. more

Lot""s of noice for nothing 8/3/2007

The review below has no truth to it. We treat all our clients with the outmost respect and value everyone who comes here. We try to make sure that everybody has a good time when they?re here. As to the music, we play house, with the best local dj?s nightly. This can be confirmed in the review from Daily News:\r \r ?Moomia is, without a doubt, my favorite NYC spot. It feels like you?re in Egypt, with walls of hieroglyphics and hookahs. There are low plush couches and elaborate lamps hanging from the ceilings. Music is a perfect mix of house music. And Moomia serves food all hours of the day and night. They have the best sushi, so if you?re not a cheeseburger and French fries person, then this is the spot. It is open until 4 a.m. Moomia?s got a different vibe than your average club or bar. It?s a nice hidden spot without the mainstream nonsense.?\r -Dina, a review critic for Daily News, written on August 2, 2007\r \r In addition, Moomia was named the best hookah bar in New York by Shekys list. It seems strange that the comment below was written right after our great review in the Daily News. Come and check out the place for yourself. We?re sure you won?t be disappointed.\r Pros: Music,Food,Service,Parking,DJs Cons: Very busy more

Horrible Manager with no class 8/2/2007

We booked this place for my birthday, about 80 people, almost a month in advance. When we got there, the manager, Andre, said that there was a bigger party coming so we couldn't party there. He was rude and brash, and we were shocked and furious. Imagine- your brthday party, you've invited nearly a 100 of your friends, and the day of the event the manager tries such a thing. After intense argument that went on for some time, he said that he would give us half of the room we had reserved (which would not nearly be enough). LUCKILY the other party didn't even show, so the night went off ok. Furthermore, the music was something terrible. Crappy lounge music that you would buy at Walmart. When we finally convinced him to let us choose what to play, we went through the manager's lame mp3 selection, which was basically AC/DC and a couple crappy Red Hot Chili Peppers songs and some Duran Duran ballad. Throughout this whole process, Andre was rude and unwelcoming. As if he was doing US a favor. Luckily, my friends made it a good time, because Andre and the Moomia Lounge otherwise ruined what was supposed to be a special night. \r \r I would not recommend this place under any circumstances. Oh, and nearly a year later he still sends texts about specials even though I have repeatedly asked to be kept off the list. The manager is a scumbag and this place is a waste. There are plenty of other great hookah lounges in the city, I suggest looking there, rather than this unprofessional dive. Pros: decent downstairs room Cons: horrible manager, terrible service, bad music, unprofessional, use phone number to continue sending texts more

Great place to come on a Thursday and enjoy Sushi and Martinis with DJs from all over the world playing House 4/16/2007

Moomia is a place to come and enjoy the great Martinis and eat Sushi till 4am!!! Music is played by djs from all over the world and has some of the up and coming NYC talent. Thursday is a great night to go and eat btw 9pm and 12am, then things get more pumping and the drinks keep flowing. The staff are nice and ive never had any problems with my cc being overcharged. I thought the drink specials were great and the Sushi rolls really rocked. This place also shys away from the glam crowd that i dont like :) More down to earth vibe and underground feel. Pros: Sound system and food more

Electronic Music Fans UNITE! 3/8/2007

Okay? in reading some of these reviews, it?s clear whoever?s been giving negative feedback has been going into this with the wrong mindset. First off, let me say that I can?t necessarily rate this place for food, because I?ve never come here for the food or for a ?great dining experience?? I have tasted the food though and can attest to the quality of it (it's definitely good food). But mainly, I?ve come here for the music, the atmosphere, and a very unpretentious environment filled with really down to earth people who appreciate good house music. That?s the bottom line folks. Do you like to dance? Do you like to meet beautiful, fun people? Do you like electronic music? Are you looking to have a good time with unassuming people without having to pay a high cover charge (usually free)? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you?re bound to have a great time at this place. Inexpensive bottle service as well! Can?t beat it! You usually have great resident NY DJ?s spinning here as well as guest DJ?s from all over the world coming through here to spin low-key, awesome parties. Before you go, I?d check to see who?s spinning on rhythmism?s (rhythmismdotcom) party calendar.\r \r Go for the music, go for the people, go for the vibe. Pros: Great music, beautiful women, unpretentious vibe Cons: None that I can think of more

good electronic music spot in weekends @ Moomia 3/6/2007

How we found Moomia was actually by accident. My partner was invited to play in one of the party there so i just went along. Usually, i wasn't so into the whole SOHO scene, thinking it's too tourist-driven, and lack originality. However, i was really pleasantly surprised by its beautifully decorated interior and layback atmosphere. Most of all, it had a really high ceiling so you don't feel suffocated like many place in downtown. Also, it located in this remote portion of Soho, where you can turn up the bass and no one from the neighborhood would come out to complain, which means, if you happen to be in a good night there, you will dance as if you are in some big clubs. Anyway, we really had fun there, playing music and entertaining the crowd. And, now, I?m looking forward to going there just to party as it has a strong electronic music scene, which is what we love. Probably will go there this Friday to check out a monthly party, and will write back w/ the comments. Strongly recommanded for night out during the weekend if you are into electronic music. it's an great alternative from the usual dancing spot like sullivan room or element. There is no Attitude. you might be totally surprised by the quality of music if you are in for the right night, and walk out end of night, thinking why don't you find out about this place a long time ago. on well......... Pros: Dancing, music, no attitude, beautiful decor Cons: fill that drink up! more

the best after after hours!!!! 3/5/2007

i was in moomia yesterday first time and for sure not the last one! the music was great! DJ of the hook!!! all the working stuff great! very open and cool people! waitress - the best one ever and very cute! great place for after after hours where u can chill, dance, drink and smoke hookah, what else do u need?! im coming back next sunday!!! more

Bunch of Thieves 3/2/2007

Like many of the people who reviewed this place, my tab charged for a ton of drinks that weren?t mine. I guess the waitress thought that she could get away with it because she assumed we were drunk. She finally agreed to remove the drinks from our tab but it took forever. She had to get the manager and the whole thing took over an hour to sort out. Clearly this place has a policy of putting extra drinks on people?s tabs. I don?t know why you would ever go here ? the drinks are not that good, it takes forever to get service and the wait staff are a bunch of thieves! Pros: 0 Cons: Too many to list more

best service 3/1/2007

moomia was great, not only for the decor and music but for the friendly service as well. It's unusual for a lounge/club to have such friendly staff. They actually remember your name!!! \r My friends and I went for a little get together ( it was crazy packed) and we even met the owner! \r You should go try the Moomia Martini! Yummmm..... more

Stay Away! 2/21/2007

This place stole from me too! My friends and I tried to pay with cash and after we gave our money to the waitress she came back and said we were $100 short - believe me, we were not! I talked to the manager about it and he was rude and refused to listen to me. I couldn?t believe that?s how they treat people with big tabs - I guess they thought we were drunk and wouldn't notice...but we did!\r \r The only reason to go to this bar is if you are from out of town and don't know any better or you are under age and can?t get in anywhere else. There are plenty of places in NYC that have cooler people and a better atmosphere that don't steel from their patrons.\r Pros: There are non Cons: They will steel your money more

Great parties, creative food 2/13/2007

I love house music, so I am glad that there is an alternative to Le Souk (and such) AT LAST!!\r A lot of my friends go here every week, I always meet old clubbing friends here. To top it off- they serve sushi all night. Perfect combo imo. All said, there are always a few people who don't belong to such cool places- like the ones writing bad reviews. True, service can be slow when it gets very crowded, but is it unusual in NYC? And as for overcharging people, this is just some vengeful drunken BS it seems to me...\r Guys, this place is gonna get huge, mark my words! So hurry up and come party while it's still free and relatively easy to get in : ) Pros: Cool people, easy to get to Cons: Small bathrooms more

Do not go to Moomia 2/5/2007

I planned a friend?s birthday party at Moomia a few weeks ago and I couldn?t believe how I was treated. I brought 35 people to the bar and not only was the service lousy but they tried to charge be for over $100 of drinks that I never ordered. I had a friend pay for part of the bar tab in cash and although they promised not I wouldn?t be charged for that portion of the bill, I was. Now they won?t return my phone calls. Stay away from this place, it is sketchy! Pros: THUMBS WAY DOWN more

DJ's RoCks!! 1/1/2007

I've been to Moomia couple of times, but last saturday beat me off! the dj was playing amazing progressive house set!! and finally they brought dj table downstairs, so now the place rocks like a real clubbing space!! the place was packed, a llot of cool and stylish people, I had a lot of fun! I even went to their new years party last night! open bar was till 2am, so I got a chance to taste all those famous 'Moomia' martinis, which people are talking about ;) very good! mango martini was my fav. Anyway I had a lot of fun again and love the deejays ;D I heard next friday they are having some fashion show party, so I should prob. chek it out aswell!! Pros: Goodlooking staff!! Cons: The coat check is too far away downstairs!! more

Not recommended sadly to say. 12/17/2006

I decided to go there to give it a try on 12-16-06, i went there with my fiance (on her birthday) an a good amount of friends. I honestly was not comfortable that night at all. For one the drink's were not that good as i expected from this place. The place looked nice, but there are others things to a lounge/bar/restaurant besides decorations.. i ordered fried calamari an literally had to wait about 25min for the sauce that has to come with it. The waitresses kept on forgetting the drinks we ordered brought extra drinks an put them on our table just for our bill to get higher an higher. That problem was rectified.. but other then that the place looked nice an different. Pros: Design Cons: Service more

This place is something else located very close to SOHO but in the same time out of the way.\r \r I was there several times and every time I enjoy it.Finaly they've got a grate chef, the food doesn't go with the theme ,but who cares if it is good. They have amazing sushi now and the best part of it they serve sushi till 4-am !!!\r The interior of the place is beautiful, the crowd is cool, the music is A+.Check this place out and you'll thank me for it.
