What happened to this place? Terrible! 10/2/2011

This was my fav mexican place years ago. I haven't been for several years and my daughter and I stopped in on Oct. 1st for a drink and chips and salsa. The salsa tasted like tomato water with dried and out-dated spices thrown on top. NO exaggeration! I still can't the taste of it out of my mind. Then they brought a Corona with a lime that was no longer any shade of green (it was yellow and gray) and partially dehydrated. My daughter ordered a strawberry margarita and that lime slice was even worse. We left the table without even touching the drinks, went to the hostess stand and showed her that these limes should not be served and we were leaving. Her response, ""OK, I'll tell your waitress."" I don't know what happened to this place; but DO NOT go there. If there garnishes are fit to be served and their salsa (or whatever it was) isn't fit to eat, image the food they are serving. I wouldn't trust it as safe. I'm really bummed. more

I hate to think the obvious... 6/3/2011

My husband and I used be pretty regular customers there when we were dating, but haven't been in some time. When my daughter told me she and her boyfriend were going there I thought to myself ""I miss that place, we should start going again."" But she called me and told me they refused to seat them, supposedly because they needed to be over 21 after 10pm. They are both close, however, it was around 9:40. She showed them the time on her phone and was told her clock is off. Really? Sprint has the wrong time, eh? By 20 minutes you say? Doubtful. I hate to think the only other reason that comes to mind, they are a mixed couple. I guess I won't be a regular there again, after all. I can't understand any other reason they would turn away business early. It's sad, really. more

Skip the Margaritas 3/5/2011

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. My friends and I are guilty of that when it comes to this place. Something about going out for a few pitchers (pricey pitchers) of margaritas always seems like a good idea, but by the first sip our evening is 'soured'. We order a premium pitcher for $34 and had to add 5 more tequila shots and soda water to get the balance right! Sooo sour and weak! Our bill came and the total for the pitcher was $55!!! Our waitress didn't even think to get us a new pitcher when we clearly were not happy (once again)... The good thing is we made a pact tonight, NO MORE MONTERREY 4LIFE. If you want the food, its pretty good (but pricey) SKIP THE DRINKS. ** Cantina Diablos we are waiting patiently for you!!! more

I have had much better! 2/22/2010

The prices were outrageous for the entrees and they ended up being very mushy and sloppy. I can get a MUCH better meal for half the price at On The Border in Novi. My family asked me where I wanted to go for my Birthday; I wanted Mexican, but we didn't want to drive all the way to Novi, so went to Monterrey. What a mistake. I was embarrassed. I, for one, will never go back. Pros: Good Service Cons: Bad and very pricey food more

Good but Pricey 5/3/2008

My boyfriend and I LOVE Mexican food, so we were very excited to try a different place. We were seated very promptly and given chips and salsa immediately. We were both pleasantly surprised by the spice in the salsa since we both enjoy spicy dishes, but found it VERY salty. We both ordered the house margarita (pricy, around $8 for a jumbo) and unfortunately the tequila was virtually undetectable. I ordered the flautas and found them to be very tasty and I really enjoyed the guacamole, which also had a nice spice to it. I don't remember what my boyfriend ordered, but he also enjoyed his meal. The serving size was large and I had enough leftovers to enjoy for dinner the next evening. When we received our bill, it was around $55 (This included 2 entrees, 2 beers, 2 margaritas), so not the cheapest of meals. We usually go to a Mexican restaurant in Sterling Heights that has better food, cheaper prices, but not as trendy of an area. So, the experience was overall a good one, but I think we will stick to our usual spot and when we want to spend that much money we'll get sushi :) Pros: Nice, trendy area with friendly service. Cons: Expensive and margaritas disappointing. more
