Meh. Not sure why I keep going back. I had mole chicken once and it was very good. After that, everything I've tried to quesadillas to tacos to fish...not so good at all. Most recently, salmon fish tacos, which had zero flavor. They came with the driest spanish rice ever. The Astoria 31st Street location is convenient, which is really the only reason I'd pickup on my way home from work. Prob not ever again though. more

could be much better 10/31/2010

I must say I was highly disappointed with my recent trip to Mojave. After hearing and reading in here mixed reviews, I decided to try it for myself as I love Mexican cuisine. Upon being seated we waited a good 10 minutes before being greeted by a server, which happens, I can overlook that. What I can't overlook are the dirty glasses and dirty table, extremely long wait for food, drinks came right before the meal and the bill i had to get up and go to the bar, confused servers and mediocre food at best. The server kept blaming things on how ""busy"" the restaurant was, and about the new managment, which is always unprofessional. For one, we made reservations at 7:45 for 6 people and the restaurant was not busy at all, yes there was a game on tv , but isn't the staff suppost to serve the customers and ""not watch the game""?? Moving on, once I received the margarita I ordered, I was pleasantly surprised, however not enough to enjoy my overall experience. The margaritas and location are the saving graces of this establishment. Overall, I was disappointed and will not be back. P.S. Maybe ""the manager"" should spend more time fixing the glitches of his restaurant and less time flirting with the waitress. more

Great Food...Even Better Drinks 6/16/2010

Wow...Astoria really needed a place like this. My girlfriend and I went here a lot when she lived in Astoria. Their margaritas are amazing, though a little on the pricey side. This may be my only complaint: although the drinks are totally worth the hefty price, they're so good that it's pretty easy to run up a nice size bill if you don't have a lot of control (like me). They also have vegetarian AND vegan options available, all of which are unbelievably good. The staff are all very nice and accommodating (and have excellent memories). I miss this place....very much. Pros: Great Staff, Great Food, Great Drinks, Enough Said Cons: ummmm.... more

NICE ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE, THE WAITERS WERE SO RESPECTFUL 12/23/2009

I'M NOT CRAZY ABOUT THE FOOD BECAUSE I'M JUST NOT INTO THIS PARTICULAR MEXICAN FOOD, WHERE WERE THE TACOS WITH THE CREAM CHEESE? & SO ON. AFTER I ORDERED I WAS MAD WITHIN BECAUSE OTHERS WERE GETTING OTHER TYPES OF FOOD ITEMS I DIDN'T THINK THEY HAD. ALL I READ WAS ALL THESE SPANISH SOUNDING NAMES AND THOUGHT I WAS LIMITED, THEY HAVE TO DO BETTER WITH THEIR MENU. THEY SHOULD STATE THEY HAVE BURGERS,AFTER OUR FRIEND MRS GLORIA HAD ORDERED, IT WAS TOO LATE FOR ME TO CHANGE AND READING FROM ANOTHER REVIEW EVEN CEASER SALAD? DAMN WHY DIDN'T THEY TELL ME THAT? I AM STILL GIVING THEM ANOTHER CHANCE. AT NIGHT ITS A NICER ATMOSPHERE ESPECIALLY WITH CHRISTMAS DECOR AROUND : ) PLEASE HAVE IN THE MENU THE AMERICAN FAST FOOD ITEMS. Pros: THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE RESPECTFUL AND SERVICE OF THE WAITERS Cons: NOT CRAZY ABOUT THE FOOD, MENU MADE ME FEEL LIMITED, more

Great food and even better drinks! 7/18/2009

Mojave has great food and an awesome outdoor space in the back. The bar is small but the cocktails are great...especially the prickly pear mojitos...powerful! Love the place! Pros: Ambiance, Outdoor Space, Drinks more

Great food, service and happy hour drinks don't hurt either 4/29/2009

I recently visited my best friend who lives in Astoria. After long hours of shopping on Steinway and walking around in Astoria Park we decided to stop at Mojave for a quick bite. Now, it was mid afternoon on a Wednesday but the place had a few people there. The service was prompt and our waiter was very attentive. We ordered a caesar salad and nachos to share and loved it. We also ordered two quesadillas and they were delicious. Overall, great place which I highly recommend! Pros: Mojitos, Service, Taste, Outdoor Garden more

Enjoyable, but best for a relaxed meal 1/7/2009

I've been here for drinks/light dinner with a coworker several times and also once for brunch and most of the time, I have a pretty good time. The service in inconsistent - I've never had horrible service, but sometimes they can be a little slow. The food is pretty good - I especially like the shrimp crisps. It's definitely more upscale than most Mexican food that I've had and it's generally a lighter feel than most of the heavy, greasy food you usually find in Mexican restaurants. They use a lot of seafood, so it seems almost like Cuban or Puerto Rican cuisine.\r The terrace outside is very nice during the spring/summer months and I've never had to wait for a table. \r The brunch menu is different from lunch/dinner menu and I probably would not recommend Mojave for brunch--menu is rather limited and doesn't have much in the way of more ""brunch-y"" fare, but it is great for relaxed drinks with friends. It's also a larger restaurant, so I imagine they could handle a large group fairly easily. Pros: drinks, relaxed ambience Cons: service can be a little slow more

Best brunch around 10/29/2008

We walked into this restaurant on sunday brunch not really expecting much but came out with the best dining experience we had ever had. Since we only had a party of three we decided to sit at the bar and were greeted by a very nice guy bartender. The bartender over heard us talking about tequilas and recommended the infused tequila on their drink menu. It was not that expensive and the taste of the triple-berry tequila was worth every penny. Not too long after, our order of the hamburger and fries as well as the salmon taco came. The burger was EXCELLENT and the fries were the best all of us had ever tasted. Although the portions of tacos could have been larger (my boyfriends eats like a pig) it was really filling. We all walked away with the best dining experience we had ever had and although there have been some bad reviews, look forward to going back. Mojave really did an excellent job. Pros: friendly service Cons: bar is hidden more

This is NOT a place to go for mexican food. 10/28/2008

Horrible, slow, incompetent service. The chips on the table were limp, the salsa beyond mild. The food was undercooked and under flavored. Way to pricey for the area. If you are looking for good Mexican...keep walking, don't waste your money or time here. Pros: Lovely decorations, Not busy and could seat us right away. Cons: Bad food, poor service. more

Good but not Great... 9/20/2008

I feel like I want to like this place more than I actually do. I've been here 3x & had more or less the same experience every time. Food is okay, but nothing spectacular. I've been to the West Village location (Agave) a couple of times as well & would say it's about the same, but the menus are slightly different. So far my favorite thing here is the queso fundido & the fried goat cheese salad. The quesadillas are pretty bland :( The one area where they do have most places beat is the frozen margarita selection...probably the best I've ever had. Oh, & the service is pretty good too. Pros: interesting variety of frozen margaritas Cons: bland food more

Better Mexican 9/7/2008

Nice room and good food...........but,VERY expensive for this style of food. You ARE paying for the room ! Pros: Nice look Cons: VERY expensive for South-western( MEXICAN FOOD! ) more

The ambience was great but the food not so much 7/18/2008

We went on a Thursday evening because they advertise ""complimentary margarita with meal"". However, the prices are a bit steep and the food not so great (which makes the free margarita not worth it). We just opted for appetizers and beer.\r \r There was live music and the place was packed. It is an ok place Pros: ambience and live music Cons: expensive and bad food more

Great food Great service 7/13/2008

I've been walking by this place for about a 3 months since i've moved to this neighborhood and i thought it looked a little to trendy for me so i finally gave it a shot this weekend. The food was terrific the service was great . The staff was so attentive The tequila section even better. the only thing i didnt like was the crabmeat rolls they were a little on the lite side. The fajitas were more than i can eat i ended up taking it home and having it for lunch and went back there for dinner. One of the best burgers i've evr had and the spice they put on the fries I will definately be back for more Pros: Food , service Cons: None that i can see more

Friendly, Entertaining, and Accomodating!! 7/12/2008

Me and four of my girl friends came here on a Friday night and had a great time!! We started out with the Buffalo Oysters (which you HAVE to try) and Guacamole ( a little smaller portion than we had hoped, but very tasty). The drinks were on time and plentiful. The entrees came a little quicker than I would have expected, but it wasn't a big deal. Our server was incredibly attentive and she described, in detail, the entrees, cocktail drinks, and made suggestions that we ended up going for. First off, the entrees were delicious and HUGE portions for the price. A pitcher of red sangria was followed up by a round of Margaritas. We were pleasantly surprised when the two bar tenders (in little orange polos!) brang the margaritas out and chatted to us for a bit. They asked if we enjoyed everything and if we would like to try some Tequila shots, or something called THE PUNISHER. A little morbid, I know, but we watched as my one (very brave) friend took this habanero infused shot. It was hilarious to watch my friend's eyes water up as she tried to keep a smile! Unfortunately, the rest of us were not as brave as she, but it made for quite an adventure. We will definitely be returning, maybe next time I'll be the one stepping up to the Punisher challenge! Bottom line: Professional and extremely friendly staff, delicious entrees, and a truly fun atmosphere. Pros: Excellent service and excellent food Cons: food brought out at rapid speed, people want to take their time! more

If this place weren't so pricey Mojave would get 5 stars..from the many times i've dined in, picked up our it delivered the food usually doesn't disappoint! the brunch menu is great and the lunch/dinner one isn't bad either... If the portions to done of the items were better I'd also recommend 5 stars more

Great all around 7/4/2008

Went there twice so far and intend on going back. Great food and staff. First I'll talk about the food. You must try the corn on the cob!! The calamari was also so delicious! Not greasy at all! Perfectly cooked. We had the steak quesedilla, burger and fries, guacamole, and tuna salad. All were excellent choices. Now about the staff. Something very unfortunate occurred when we were there on our 2nd visit. Someone who was walking out of the restaurant stole my friend's purse. I can't even put into words the loss and feeling at that moment or realization!! It was our innocence's fault as my friend hung her purse on the back of her chair. Well, the staff was devasted! They immediately called the police (who showed up in 5 minutes, which anyone who has ever needed the police in Astoria, know it can take a long time for them to show up). The manager and our waiter were so upset and genuinely concerned. In the end they took off a nice percentage off the check and sent us five complimentary, DELICIOUS desserts. As we were leaving the manager asked us to please call him and let us know that everything turned out ok and that our friend was OK. As a person who is ALL about customer service this restaurant did NOT let me down! Thank you for your genuine care and concern for our friend and not just the image of the restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant to all and leave a nice tip... they deserve it! Pros: The staff, corn on the cob Cons: parking can be annoying, but that's NYC's fault more

fun, delicious, friendly 6/28/2008

As a resident of Astoria, it is always awesome to find a great place with excellent food. Mojave is that and more!! Our server was so friendly and the drinks were diverse and well made. But the highlight for me was the entree I chose. I ate the Salmon which is the best Salmon I have ever had. It is crusted with ground pumpkin seeds, pan seared with a chipotle cream sauce drizzled on top. It is served on a bed of spinach sauteed in garlic and smoked tomatoes. YUM! OMG. Delicious. It is pricey but worth it. I will go back for the food, service and fun atmosphere. Pros: The quality of the food, fun atmosphere and service Cons: that I couldn't stay longer... more

nice drink menu 6/17/2008

have eaten here twice recently; the 1st visit was just OK but the second time we dined here we were pleasantly surprised. the service is personable and the food is generally good quality. i would avoid the 3 cheese chilaquiles - it is soggy . They have a very creative list of cocktails and infused drinks and tequilas. Pros: friendly wait staff, chocolate cake more
