Mode does a lot of advertising and marketing. They do discounts for newbies, discounts if you refer people to them, email advertising, snail mail advertising and they post to all...

fabulous red 11/15/2006

I went to Shannon for the first time this past weekend and absolutely loved my experience at Mode. Shannon did a wonderful job with my color. I don't wear makeup, do my nails, etc. very often, so hair color is important to me - and Shannon didn't let me down. I'll be going back without question. Thanks Shannon! more

Judy's Book led me to Mode--thumbs up! 9/26/2006

The skin on my scalp is sensitive, and while I've gotten good cuts and color at other places, I'm always sore for a while afterwards. I came across the JB reviews for Mode, and something about "organic" clicked. I went to the Roosevelt location and Celeste did a great job on my hair. I was looking to go a bit darker and lower-maintenance and she knew exactly what to do. Now I have a great, easy style and just the color I wanted for a very reasonable price--plus, it didn't hurt! It's also one of the cutest little salons I've ever seen, and even their coffee is organic (and delicious, I might add). I must give Celeste big props for the fantastic hand massage she gave me while we were waiting on my color. I think I've found my long-term salon. more

Kelly is simply the best. Ii would never go anywhere else. His sense of style is fantastic. He listens, gives a lovely scalp massage, and knows how to use those scissors. more

Many colors, many styles, many years, ONE SALON 7/10/2006

MODE is one of those places where you can trust with your hair, your image, your style and anything else. I've been seeing Joe for YEARS and he has seen me through countless incarnations - i can actually just sit in his hair and tell him I'm bored and he'll do something amazing with no input from me. It's a gift, for sure. Better yet, i have watched him personally mentor everyone he has working with him, and i think they can all be trusted just as much..... Everything is organic, everything is soothing, it's a lovely thing. I prefer the Roosevelt salon, it's small and homey, and easy to park. But the downtown space is gorgeous also, and if you work downtown, it would be incredibly convenient to just swing in. Also check them out for spa services, facials, make-up, waxing etc..... it's all done with the utmost talent, integrity and attention to detail. Yes, it's very (maybe too) pricey, but it's also worth it, even if you go a little less often..... more

Mode Hair Art - 2 locations 6/26/2006

If you are looking for a thoughtful, competent, socially, environmentally conscious, salong & spa I strongly recommend either of Mode's locations. The Roosevelt location is a smaller neighborhood style salon compared to their Downtown location that offers skin, make-up and nail services. I love that they are an advocate for continuing education for all of their stylists so i feel like i'm always dealing with a professional. But the best part of all is that all of their products are organic. Not only is it better for your hair and the environment but there's not icky smell of strong solutions. just the smell of clean gorgeous hair! more

Loyal Client for over 5 years! 3/17/2006

I found Joe, the owner, 5 years ago at Habititude and have been with him ever since. Joe is an amazing stylist! I am Asian and it could be challenging for any stylist because of the hair texture. Joe gives me a style that works with my texture and I am done drying and styling in 10 minutes. The style compliments the shape of my face very well. I have referred many many clients to Joe. Most of them are total strangers who stopped me in the street to get his information! (I have been approached by women in elevators, bank, gym, Banana Republic...) His haircut is little expensive - $100 but it's worth every dime. You can see the cut is great before he dries it. He is in his downtown location most of the time now. Any questions, send me an email! more

New downtown location 11/11/2005

I had been searching for a new stylist for a few months now. I found Mode through city search and Judy's book and decided to give it a try. They just opened a brand new location on 4th and Pike. My stylist was Chelsea, I am definitely picky and she did an outstanding job on my color/foil and cut. I Love it!! They are still re-modeling the space but it already looks great and when they are done it should be fabulous! Parking is the down-side, I paid $10 at the red lion hotel which is a short walk. I will be going back for sure, I highly recommend you take the plunge and give Chelsea a try, you wont be disappointed!! more

Terrific styling at very reasonable prices 10/26/2005

I am so impressed with this place. After years of being dissatisfied with nearly every stylist I've seen, I was overjoyed to find Kelly at Mode. His stylistic sense is excellent - he came up with a cut which is flattering and reasonably simple for me to care for, but doesn't look boring, trendy, or "cookie cutter" in the least. I'm not going anywhere else. The reasonable price is a bonus; I've paid twice this much for unsatisfactory cuts downtown. more

Hip and different hairdos! 10/21/2005

As I have tried many salons in Seattle and been disappointed, I decided to use Judy's Book and Citysearch to find a new one! Mode was a top pick on many of these websites, so I decided to give it a whirl... Molly, my stylist was great! I went in telling her I wanted a new style and that I didn't want my hair TOO short. She helped me look through style books and magazines until we found a style I liked. As she was cutting my hair, I was about to cry, she kept cutting and cutting, and I thought it was going to be really short. Fortunately, it was not and it looked exactly like the picture. It took me a week to figure out how to do it, but now that I have it all under control, I have a very hip, modern (kinda European-do) and I absolutely love it! Thank you Molly!!! more

Fair price - fair cut 9/27/2005

I read the reviews here and at citysearch (and used the coupon there) and made my appt at mode. Philana cut my hair, seemed to listen for the most part to what I was saying about my daily routine and my hope for a low maintenance style. I got a fairly unexciting cut - I'm Asian and did mention to her that I wanted anything but the typical chin length bob, but somehow or another, it's basically what I wound up with (just a more blunt version). I didn't hate it enough or want to spend the time to ask her to change/fix it. The cut itself is quite good - it's been about a month now and growing out well. more

Decent (I guess) for the price 9/9/2005

Mode does a lot of advertising and marketing. They do discounts for newbies, discounts if you refer people to them, email advertising, snail mail advertising and they post to all the relevant websites. That said, they are indeed a down-to-earth salon with reasonable prices. My haircut was disappointing - I really don't think the stylist had a clue how to cut my type of hair. (I was refered to her by the salon as THE one to see if you have curly hair.) more

Down to Earth & Cheap! 8/21/2005

I've tried so many salons in Seattle, and while I've received decent haircuts at many, paying $60 or more only seems worth it if the haircut is awesome and you really connect with a specific stylist. I haven't had consistent luck on that front so I decided to try a new place and used CitySearch's Best of Seattle list to look for recommendations. Mode came up as the #1 recommendation, so I gave it a try, and I thought it was a great little place. The salon is located near Whole Foods in Ravenna. It's a small salon but is also very approachable and down to earth. Paul was my hair stylist, and I thought he did an excellent job: listened well to what I wanted, discussed various options, took his time to cut (~ an hour), was very precise, and also fun to talk to. Best of all... the cut was only $30! I couldn't believe it! First time clients can use a 25% off coupon found on CitySearch. For the money, this place can't be beat! more

I'm in Love with my Hair 4/21/2005

I'm truly not an excessively vain person, but I cannot begin to describe the effect on my life my incredible haircut has. I can't stop checking myself out! This haircut has made me even more confident, sassy, and sexy. It won back an ex-boyfriend. It has garnered raves and wonder from passers-by. Friends are enamored, and commenting on the "whole new Doh." And for this I can thank Kelly, my stylist at Mode. My first few haircuts with Kelly were very good, certainly good enough to go back. But he was working with what I was trying to describe, and I'm no hairstylist. So when I'd been visiting him long enough to trust him, I told him to go short and that he could do what he wanted--and he gave me this, this most amazing look, all for a very reasonable $35. [Update: prices at the salon have increased considerably. A haircut from Kelly is now $60, but still worth it.] Mode is known for excellent color work, as well, although I have only seen the beautiful results on other people since I color my own hair. I also see other great haircuts leaving the salon. But it's my own cut that turns my head whenever I pass a mirror! more
