Best Kept Secret In South Carolina 8/24/2011

I recently attended a wedding rehearsal dinner and wedding at The Mitchell House and Gardens, and all I have to say is "wow." I've lived in the Midlands for years, but I've never been to an event there. The dinner could not be duplicated in any restaurant. The Mitchell House itself was beautifully decorated with flowers on all of the tables and throughout the house. The dinner, served by the staff, was delicious, and the desserts were to die for. One whole room had desserts, and the groom's cake was a chocolate creation that I learned was made by their cake expert. If the food at the dinner was this good, I had to wonder what the wedding would be like. Well, it was beyond my expectations, too. I have never seen such beautiful floral arrangements. A huge display of roses and other flowers covered the arch in their Garden Pavilion. The flowers for the bride and her attendants were gorgeous, and there were even more flowers throughout the house. Just A Hot Mess 8/2/2011

I Recently just got married at the Mitchell House and Gardens. I paid over $1100 and felt like I didn't get my money's worth. First off the director and all the staff were very rude to all of my guest. They were unprofessional and unprepared. I had three consultations with Mitchell House and still on the day of my wedding I didn't receive anything we talked about. They left out things that were supposed to be done during my ceremony and my reception. When I confronted them about it they were still very rude and would not take some of the blame, not even an apology was given. I would not refer anyone to get married at The Mitchell House And Gardens. more

Best Event Site & Caterer 8/17/2010

The Mitchell House is a beautifully maintained historic home. The house has such great character. I love the hardwood floors and stately staircase. I had a hard time deciding whether to get married inside or in the lovely garden. The garden is lush and with the covered pavillion and porch, I didn't have to worry about the weather. So I had my wedding in the pavillion overlooking the garden. Everything was magnificent! The food was better than I imagined and seemed endless. Every room I stepped into had something to offer my guests. The cake, pina colada flavored, was wonderful and almost to perfect to cut. We were so well cared for from start to finish. Ten stars for the staff! more

The Perfect Day 2/16/2010

The Mitchell House and Gardens in Lexington, SC was the perfect venue for my October reception. I looked a several other reception sites in Lexington, but non of them had the close personal connection that I felt at Mitchell House. Planning my recepetion was a breeze. They set aside times that fit my schedule to plan the menu, cake, flowers etc. When it came down to my special day everything was taken care of. All I had to do was show up after my wedding. The outdoor pavilion was set up for dancing. My cake was wonderful! Everyone must try the Pina Colada flavor!!! Thank you Mitchell House for making my day so special. more

A Southern Wedding 2/16/2010

The Mitchell House Staff made my wedding day dreams come true. They were all so polite and professional. The Food at my wedding was to die for. Mitchell House has many diffrent menu options. I chose shrimp and grits and crabcakes for my wedding. They have the best tasting wedding cakes in town! They provide so many options to make your day yours. They also provide you with a bride and groom suite the hour before to get dressed in which is great because some places make you get dressed in the rest room. I will come back to MH any future events. Pros: Best food i've ever had at a wedding! more

Devine Evening 5/3/2009

I want to do it all again! I wouldn't change a thing! \r My fondant cake was exquisite...almost too beautiful to cut into, but so delicious once we did!\r They covered every detail and I wasn't nearly as nervous as I anticipated. I was actually relaxed knowing The Mitchell House was taking care of everything!\r The food was magnificent and beautifully displayed. They even packed us a basket of food to take with us in the limo! \r I just can't say enough wonderful things! The Mitchell House & Garden made my wedding day perfect!! more

Greatest experience ever 2/8/2009

I can't imagine having had a more beautiful wedding! I was originally scheduled for a gazebo wedding but it rained the morning of our event so the staff moved all of the flowers and staging into the pavillion and it was even better than the gazebo would have been! They swagged tulle over the beams and the twinkly lights sparkled and it was just beautiful - I truly felt like a princess walking down the aisle to my groom. The staff also made sure to work quickly while we had our pictures taken to set up the tables and decorations for our outdoor reception. I tend to be more detail oriented than others and so I was delighted to see the centerpieces were exactly what I asked for! Our family and friends all said that our wedding was one of the best they had ever been too and I really only have the Mitchell House staff to thank for that! the food was delicious and the staff was very gracious with my family...I could not have asked for a better experience! Bridal Shower 9/23/2008

What an outstanding facility! I can?t say enough about it. I attended my cousin's bridal shower. The décor was polished, flowers and food you would not believe. The staff made sure the food was always refilled and was there for anything my cousin requested. I just can?t say enough about the decoration and the attention that was paid to us. I loved the party and would recommend this facility to anyone for any type of event. more

A wonderful time at the Mitchel House 9/20/2008

I just got married and have always dreamed of the perfect wedding.A beautiful cake, Beautiful flowers, wonderful food, and a great time.That all came true when i chose the Mitchel House in Lexington.I was so happy with it all. My day couldn't have been better. They were all great on helping us stay focused and it was like they wanted every thing to go perfect as if it was their own wedding.I wanted a place that was elegant and beautiful but where people could have a good time. It was both. The cake was Beautiful and the food table was great.They were great in making sure that all the guests were taken care of and in want of nothing. It was a perfect day. Great Customer Service & Best Wedding Ever 9/10/2008

What a fabulous staff! The Mitchell House & Garden is beautiful and moderately priced. My husband and I were married here three weeks ago. The place was beautiful. The flowers and cake exceeded my expectations. Everything was going great until we realized that the CD the best man burned with our first dance wouldn't read in the CD player. We thought we wouldn't get to have our dance, and we had practiced for months! While we were busy enjoying ourselves with family, friends and fabulous food, the Mitchell House staff called several stores and found one with our song in stock. They sent a staff member across town to purchase the CD and surprised us with OUR SONG!! They made our wedding day even more special by going "above and beyond" what we expected. We have the best memories...absolutely priceless!! more

Happy Birthday To Me 9/6/2008

My children had my 65th birthday party at the Mitchell House and it was the best party I've ever had. Candles and flowers were everywhere including a beautiful 65 red rose bouquet on the main buffet. All of the food was great and the atmosphere couldn't have been better. It was just the right blend of elegance with an "at home" feeling. My lifelong friends from Ohio, California And Florida came to the party and were greatly impressed with everything. They especially enjoyed the BBQ, Shrimp and Grits and Southern Batted Fried Chicken. All of the staff members of the Mitchell House were attentive, friendly and even came out front to sing Happy Birthday. Do I have to wait until I'm 70 to do it again??!!! more

I had a great experience while attending a friends wedding last month!.I think the staff had done a superb job in the preparations of the dinner and the quality was excellent! The staff was very friendly and assisted you in whatever was needed.I'm not sure on what the cost of the facility was, but I do recommend the Mitchell House for weddings, and even parties...such as sweet sixteens and engagement, etc.\r I have attended many function from the Palmetto Club, to the Corely Mill House, And now to the Mitchell House and I would have to say that overall the staff was one of the friendliest I have been around. more

Always Exceeds Our Expectations 8/15/2008

I have now attended a number of events at The Mitchell House and Gardens, including the weddings and receptions of friends and co-workers; a birthday celebration for my aunt; and a fashion show. Just last year, I helped plan a bridal brunch for my niece. I love coming to events at The Mitchell House and can't wait to go there again!\r \r When we planned the bridal luncheon, we ordered one of the brunch menus which was lavish and a hit with all of the family -- especially the shrimp and grits which were sauteed in the garden by a very talented cook who worked hard to keep up with the orders. Everyone wanted seconds (and probably even thirds)!\r \r We also asked them to do flowers for the tables, and I was amazed at the creativity and quality. We paid much less that we had been quoted at other places, and the flowers were breathtakingly beautiful. I had a blast! 8/14/2008

Was just there attending a wedding/reception this past weekend and everything was wonderful!! The garden was lush and lit up with little lights everywhere. I was suprised we were not eaten alive by bugs, but I wasn't bitten once! I don't know how they fended off the flying insects in this SC heat and humidity...amazing. The food was DEVINE...I loved the cheese melt and the crab dip was to die for! The cake was outstanding and tasted good too. The staff was polite and full of smiles all night. I hope I get invited to another event there soon. It was magnificent!! more

Great place for any event 8/14/2008

My wife's family is addicted to this place. They can't get enough. So far they have had 3 weddings, 3 birthday parties, 2 baptisms, 3 birthday parties, a baby shower, and 2 Christmas parties here. The atmosphere is great and they can make it fancy (black tie) or casual (khakis). The food is great and I love the meatballs! The owner and staff are always friendly and band over backwards to take care of everything. My wife's cousin is handicapped and they have an access ramp to the front door and a handicap accessable bathroom. My wife said the ladies room has a real long counter which came in handy when our daughter was still in diapers. The staff seems to have almost as much fun as the guests do. Everyone always leaves full and happy. We will continue to plan all sorts of events here for years to come! more

Great Place 8/14/2008

My in-laws love this place. They've had 3 weddings, 3 birthday parties, a baby shower, 2 baptisms, and 2 Christmas parties here over the years. It is nice and well decorated. I wish I could get my backyard to be so well manicured! The food is great...esp. love the meatballs. Staff is nice and seem like they have fun too. Beautiful gardens. Great staff...very friendly and helpful. Very knowledgible. My June wedding was more than I dreamed! The food was scrumptious and the cake was exactly what I described. BEST EVENT HOUSE & CATERING!! 8/14/2008

What a beautiful place! You MUST take a tour! When you drive by the house it looks plain, but when you go inside and tour the privacy-fenced gardens you will be as impressed as I have been. The gardens are lush. They have a covered pavillion in the garden which can seat 200+ for a wedding. I have been here as a wedding guest, as a wedding attendant (Matron of Honor) and I have hosted professional meetings and Christmas parties here. The food is wonderful...best beef tenderloin I have ever tasted. Also love the sauteed shrimp and grits. The place is family owned and operated. The owner and staff are full of southern charm and hospitality. They really go ""above and beyond"" to make sure you have everything you need.
