Cozy Place - Roach infested 12/1/2009

We recently spent the Thanksgiving weekend in Charleston and loved every establishment we frequesnted. In the mood for french fare we were directed to Mistral. We were welecomed warmly and seated with live music playing nearby. Only a moment after sitting down and just about to order our drinks we were joined at our table by some uninvited guests. COCKROACHES began coming out of the booth cushions and from under the table. We quickly made our exit. Pros: Cozy Place - Live music Cons: COCROACHES more

I went to this restaurant two days ago. We had a great experience- service was excellent and food was a lot better than we expected- the dish was way too big to finish but the price was reasonable! It was a baby friendly place too. more

insects 9/27/2009

It looks like a nice restaurant until you start paying attention at what is walking on the floors. Waiters seem used to the presence of insects. They just offer you to change table. Note: the program checking the contents of the review does not allow me to write the name of the insect but I guess you can imagine what it is. Pros: good shrimp creppes Cons: many insects crawling on the floor more

Great French Bistro 9/19/2009

Our party of 6 adults stumbled upon this restaurant during a visit to Charleston. The food was excellent, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was very authentically French Bistro. The portions were not too large, which was nice, and we all were served different vegetables as side dishes. Go when you're hungry, the table next to us said the creme brulee was delicious, but we didn't have room for dessert. Pros: Delicious Food & Excellent Service more

Simply suberb food and service 10/30/2008

We were starving as we hadn't eaten at all and it was 2:00 in the afternoon. We were welcomed and seated in a moment. From the fresh bread and butter to the delicious onion soup ( lots of cheese).....I had the duck salad which was warm and fabulous with a hint of a sweet taste. My partner had niciose salad which was wonderful and fresh. We split the creme brulee and it was just perfect. The whole thing was reasonably priced and it was just fantastic. Couldn't have been better. more

Avoid at all costs. Bon souis to Mistral. 11/9/2007

Not much to say except, horrible all around. The food tasted like cafeteria food. The "traditional" Coq au Vin, quoted by the waiter, was more like dry, baked chicken with canned stew poured over the top. Terrible! more

Great Jazz Trumpet! 10/23/2007

I was walking down the street in Charloeston last Saturday night and out of a small restaurant, Mistral, came the sound of a trumpet like I haven't heard since my last trip to New Orleans. The musicians playing had a special guest who sang like Satchmo and Dr John combined and played some of the hottest jazz and blues around. The group played everything from the old standards to rocking new orleans mambos in addition to the trumpet player's original and swinging song "the Flounder Blues" which I later found all over the internet. After an hour of music I got to speak with the french baret wearing horn man who was very friendly and articulate. He is a recent transplant from Texas and has his own band, Bam-Jazz that plays regionally. I hope this one returns very soon! The combination of the music, ambiance, and excellent food made the night. Pros: Great music and ambiance Cons: fairly close seating more

Excellent Dinner and Service! 7/22/2007

We went for dinner with our children age 14 and 12 and we all had a GREAT dinner. My 12 year old son loves Escargo and their was the BEST according to him. Service was excellent. We will dine here again. For young children it would not be the best for dinner. Over 10 year old Great. Pros: Excellent Menu and Service Cons: None more

A fine dining experiance 2/11/2007

I went to this restaurant last thursday night and it was absolutely delightful. My husband and I started off with the escargot, which was very delicious. For entrees, he ordered a seafood pasta and I had the Coq au vin. By far one of the best meals i have ever had. The dessert menu was even better, there were too many goodies to choose from. My overall experiance here was fantastic, I will dine at Mistral many more times in the future. Pros: Great food, and very good service Cons: none more

Great place to stop in and eat. Especially if you like great food. Great intimate atmosphere, and soft live music. What can make it any better? Unless of couse, for the resturant to be located right in the middle of the old market (Which it is)! :) Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Location more

not so good 5/10/2003

we went there for valentine day and it was of course pretty busy. However, more than the atmosphere, the food was really disappointing. It was quite expensive, the menu is really poor and you can't compare that with the trully french cuisine. An advice from a french customer; keep it for a lunch but definetly not for a romantic dinner. Cons: expensive, crowded more

Good food, good ambiente, good service, 12/11/2002

Absolute nice restaurant. I will be there again and again and again.... Pros: good food, good music Cons: no parking, crowded more
