Capable but not friendly 4/10/2012

Dr Mingea saved my life and I am grateful for the professional services provided in the operating room.\r \r I was ready to switch from my OB/GYN to Dr Mingea following the surgery. She was very caring when she called to check on me the day after my procedure. I genuinely felt like I was in good hands and I was relieved to have found a doctor who could be there to take care of my OB/GYN health.\r \r However, on the day of my post-op visit, she was impersonal, in a hurry and quite frankly, rude. I had a lot of questions including birthcontrol (a fairly common question I would think). She literally shrugged her shoulders and suggested that I use what worked for me in the past. That answer may indeed have been the best medical advice - I'm not sure - but her shoulder shrug kept me from inquiring further. I have since found a wealth of information from another provider who was willing to discuss my options.\r \r I really didn't know what to think after that initial post-op visit. I struggled with the decision to stay with my past OB/GYN or switch to Dr Mingea who just saved my life. Even an average visit would have been enough for me to switch. The only thing that made me feel a little better about the visit was when her nurse called to appologize. The interesting thing is that I didn't even complain - the appology was offered based on the nurse's perception of my experience. The appology would have held more weight if Dr. Mingea had called...but honestly, I don't think she really cared.\r \r To top it all off, her billing department was unwilling to bill my secondary insurance company. The hospital, the anesthesiologist, and the emergency room all filed with both insurance companies. Dr. Mingea just expected me to file on my own. I guess it's easier that way.\r \r So yes, I am jaded. And this prompted my decision to write this review. I paid in full and I'm filing with my insurance company directly. I'm going through the same steps her billing department would have to.\r \r Needless to say, she is not my OB/GYN. She is capable, but not friendly. more

dr put my baby in danger 10/25/2011

i took a home pregnancy test and it was positive. rushed to the office, left urine sample. mingea's nurse, heidi, told me they would only do a blood test b/c they are more accurate. i asked her to do the urine test anyway b/c i couldn't wait for the blood results. it was neg. i asked heidi if this could have been caused by drinking too much water and she replied ""absolutely not"". i later read on the ept box and online that drinking excess fluids can cause a false neg. heidi called the next day and told me the blood test was pos. i asked to set up an appt with dr. mingea asap as i was on several meds that can harm a baby. heidi replied that she'd spoken with dr. mingea and dr. mingea told her to tell me she'd already talked to me about my meds and that she would see me in three and a half weeks, no sooner. i'd spoken with her about my meds in general many months ago but never about how to come off of them, and since that time some of my meds had changed. i immediately saw a different ob/gyn. he was horrified- i was taking 4mg of xanax a day (dr. mingea knew this), which is in the most dangerous pregnancy category. he told me that remaining on that med for almost a month could have caused severe harm to my baby. he gave me the specific instructions i needed about how to come off my meds quickly and safely. additional note- heidi interrupts you constantly while you're talking, or rather, trying to talk. more
