Best

The food was excellent! The udon was absolutely delicious and the pork chop was tender and tasty. My order arrived early and the food was hot! Expensive, but worth it.

Editorial review from GrubHub 9/24/2013

The first time I ordered, it was fine-- a little slow, but the food was delicious and they sent complimentary warm bread and butter and utensils. The second time, it took OVER an hour longer to arrive than was stated, and unlike before there was no bread or utensils. Very disappointing. more

Terrible 10/24/2011

Went here on a Tuesday night and were seated right away at 7:30. It all went down hill from there. The service was slow and our waitress was rude. The menu is unbelievably overpriced and our steaks were average at best. more

Terrible Service 8/26/2010

I have to give 5 stars to the kitchen. Everything hit the table as ordered and well executed. Meats cooked to order, etc. The food was very good. However, at the prices a downtown steakhouse commands, there should at least be decent service. Sadly, our server was at best distracted, at worst just hated his job. Didn't inform us of the nights specials. No bread service. Dropped main course and said ""do you need anything else"" when bussers had cleared all silver from the table. Well, yes we'll need utensils. Very noisy room. And maybe it's just me but, how can you find a decent Zin or Shiraz on those wine lists that go from light to buttery to big boy. Please: List by varietal or region. more

Steak - Good; Everything else - BAD 5/22/2007

First, let?s get to the good. The Steaks were all superb, and all but one expertly prepared. One was substantially undercooked. The quality of the meat was outstanding. The appetizers of Calamari and Escargot were also delightful, though no better than average. The bar drinks were generous. Pros: Excellent steaks, generous bar drinks Cons: Everything else - service, climate control, sides, did I mention service? more

Great service, great food, great atmosphere! 4/5/2007

My girlfriend had the day off from work and I did not have to work until that evening, so we decided to have a lunch date at the new Mike Shannon's. Although we had been there several times to socialize, have drinks and to celebrate before and after baseball games, we had not had the chance to make it there for a nice sit down meal. We arrived just as the lunch crowd was starting to pick up. Despite how busy it got, the atmosphere remained pleasant and our server remained attentive. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us some excellent recommendations. For our appetizers we ordered calamri and the gourmet sliders(4 burgers: Salmon, Turkey, Wagyu Beef and Prime Beef). As if this was not enough, our entrees came with a salad and a side dish du Jour(sauteed red potatoes). My girlfriend ordered the steak and shrimp and I ordered the tenderloin filet. Despite how good the food was, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we had leftovers. Our afternoon there was pleasant and we never felt rushed. We both appreciated the time they allowed us between courses without bringing the dishes out so close together. The sports memorabilia that decorate the place are plenty to be admired. Many sports celebrities frequent the place to dine as well as socialize and three were seated around us that day during lunch. In addition to the main dining room, the place has private dining booths, private dining rooms, a terrace, a sports bar and is a popular social scene. On days of baseball games, a special section in back, The Outfield, which looks over Busch Stadium, is open and offers a bar ,a DJ, dancing and a private deck. Each one of our previous trips to Mike Shannon's had been a great experience and our first real meal at the restaurant was no disappointment. We will continue to frequent the place and recommend it to others. Pros: good service, good food, good atmosphere Cons: a bit pricey more

Great atmosphere and perfect for entertaining out of town guests! 4/2/2007

As a regular at STL eatries Niche, Copia, Riddles, Atlas, Kreis?, Monarch, etc I had yet to experience the new Shannon?s from a sit down dining perspective. Though I visited during some 06 games and liked the new place?I had yet to actually have a full meal there. When learning an in-laws visit (particularly my wife?s baseball loving father), I thought this the perfect chance to do the full dinner test. I used opentable, which I recommend as my reservation got me the Yadier Molina snug booth on a busy Sat night (which impressed my in-laws). Once seated, our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable?.but lacked some info on beer selection (we?re not wine drinkers). After Hoegaardens & calamari app were ordered, the atmosphere took over and the wait time seemed like nothing. Upon reviewing the menu you realize like most fine steakhouses--items are ala carte and can be rather pricey. Of the 4 people at the table, 2 ordered steaks (an 8oz filet and a 12oz sirloin with the shrimp add on which I recommend), the chicken tomato entree and the 2? thick pork chops (which were very large and 2? thick). For steak eaters, pay close attention to the temperature guide in the menu. My wife ordered her 8oz filet medium rare, but it came out rarer than she anticipated. On the sides, the asparagus and creamed spinach were particularly liked. From table comments, the food was delivered in a reasonable time, presentation and taste were excellent and though pricey, at least portions were commensurate. Big portions & table sharing left no room for dessert. Once dinner was over, we viewed all the memorabilia including the downstairs private dining rooms. On this occasion, no Mike Shannon, but his daughter Pat did come by to check on us. There were a few very small hiccups, but the atmosphere, food and service were top notch and highly recommend. The steak quality IMO is up there with Kreis?, but Shannons atmosphere is much better. Pros: Atmosphere and food (nice enough for a date night, the men will love the memorabilia) Cons: A bit pricey on some items more

Big disappointment 1/16/2007

I went to Mike Shannon's to celebrate a birthday last weekend and my party was very disappointed in the service and food. We had two servers--the first passed us off to the second, who was not attentive or for that matter nice. My $35 filet was very undercooked (rare when asked for just under medium) and at no point did the server come back to check on us until the very end of the meal, with the dessert tray. No apologies were given on the undercooked steak, half of which was left on my plate. The quality of the meat did not seem to be the best--unexpected when ordering the filet. The busboys were almost too attentive, filling up the water glasses after a sip was taken. Pros: great for the Cardinals/baseball fanatic. Cons: overpriced, not good service more

Not so great... 5/19/2006

I had dinner at the new location a few nights ago. The restaurant looks great, our waiter was wonderful, but the food was just not anything special. There were 5 of us and everyone's steak was overcooked. One guy sent his back after the waiter agreed it was over done, but was brought a new steak cooked exactly the same way. For the money, this is certainly not a place I would visit again. Pros: cool decor Cons: average food, expensive more

An expensive dissapointment. 5/14/2006

Looking for a good meal before the show we were seated promptly only to be forgotten. The waitress, when she did arrive 10 minutes later, was unfriendly and hurried. We ordered drinks which arrived timely, but were quickly left to ourselves again. The dinner was ordered and appeared attractive, but the food was cold and the prime rib was tough. When the waitress returned after we were half finished, we explained the situation and she suggested we order or food prepared differently and walked off. In all, a very expensive meal for very poor quality. We will not return. more

Not the worst I've had. 10/19/2005

We dined at this restaurant one evening without a reservation. The service was slow, and the waiter took a long time to deliver our drinks, which were not good enough to finish on what was a warm evening. Our food was average, but not a good value. The NY strip I ordered was not as good as the ones I buy at the store and cook on my own grill. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, or maybe they single out people without reservations for substandard everything. Regardless, I don't look back on the experience as a good one, and don't suggest this as a place for special occasions. Pros: No reservation Cons: slow service, bad cocktails, average steak more

Excellent! 1/14/2005

I don't know where the two bad reviews came from. They are way off base. Everytime we have been there, we have received excellent personal service, once by Mike himself. It is on the pricey side, but it is well worth it. Pro bably the best food, I've ever had. It is on the casual side for such a place, which makes it excellent when your out on the town. And you've got to check out the decor if your a baseball fan at all. Way to go Mike!!! And if your kids are well behaved by all means bring them and show them some Cardinals history. Pros: personal service, excellent food, great decor more

Wonderful! 6/3/2004

I don't think the others really ate here! The crab cake appetizer was spicy and very unique. The prime rib? MELTED in my mouth, the best I've ever had! It's pricey, but wonderful for special occasions, we went for Valentine's Day! Recommend adults only, to fancy for small children. Pros: Great Prime Rib, Nice decor, Friendly service more

Home Run! 1/12/2003

Best place to get the feeling of a Cardinals game and a top of the line steak. The best collection of Cardinal memorabilia in town compliments the comfortable atmosphere reminiscent of the former Cardinal player and current broadcaster. The steaks are perfection. A man's restaurant where the ladies are most welcome anytime. Pros: atmosphere, steaks, Cardinal stuff Cons: downtown parking more

incredible! 11/22/2002

How the heck does this place stay in business??? Horrible service. The service wasn't snappy, and the food just decent. The only goood thing is this place is open later than a regular restaurant. To sum it up, there are better places to eat. That's for sure! more

Amazing 10/26/2002

It's truely amazing that a place like this is still around. I've never heard a good thing about it. Went there once the place was empty. Service was pretty poor and slow(esspcially considering in the two hours I only saw one other customer come in.) Food was below average and the price was extremely high considering the ood quality and the service. With an 85% failure rate in privately owned resturants why is it this one stays and I've seen so many good places go. more

The Absolute Worst 8/1/2002

I wrote a letter to Mr. Shannon stating my displeasure. I have yet to hear back from him. To make a long story short, I waited several minutes between times the server checked on my party. He neglected to bring ordered items. My filet was horribly overcooked, then subsequently undercooked. To summarize, take a plane to Kansas City and go to Ruth's Chris. You'll get your money's worth. H. Reed Pros: Good Bartender Cons: Horrible Service, Clueless Mangaement more
