Astounding food! 7/13/2007

The Crispy sole has to be one of the best dishes produced by any restaurant in all of LA! We tried Michelia last night because there were so many raves on Citysearch and we were not disappointed. We loved the noodles, the walnut shrimp but I'm still thinking about the crispy sole. We have found a new favorite restaurant...thank you Citysearch!! The service was wonderful...our waitress was charming & very helpful and the busboys were attentive and enthusiastic. And to top it all off the chef came out and chatted with us which gave us a chance to thank her personally. Pros: The food, the food & the food!!! Cons: can't think of any con, sorry more

Good meal. OK service. Awful desert. 7/3/2007

Maybe I was there on an off night, or maybe consistently high quality is just tough to maintain. The meal began wonderfully with Vegan spring rolls, warm chicken-shrimp-crab shumai, and papaya prawn salad. The main dish of sweet chili chicken was good, but left us with empty water glasses that weren't refilled until we were ready for the check. The real culinary crime though was the dessert, supposedly a hazelnut layered cake. It had the consistency of a stale ding dong, and half the flavor. Was it just late in the evening? There were still diners indoors and out, so why the terrible finish to the meal? My advice is to give the place a shot, but if you see an odd brown disk with multicolored sprinkles coming your way, better to take the check and run. Pros: Innovative, tasty appetizers & main dishes Cons: Service can be spotty more

Delicious dinner! 2/10/2007

Great restaurant to try if you like French/Vietnamese style food. We've been there for twice already! The Crispy sole has a great flavor and yummy sauce. The Seared Steak salad was a little too raw for me, but still very flavorful. The scallop dish came in an edible shell and was good too. Service is on the slow side and portions are not huge, but definitely a good meal! more

Interesting take on Vietnamese food 11/17/2006

I've been here 2x already, and it's always been great. It's a really cute little restaurant, and the chef is adorable (if you get a chance to see her.) I recommend the duck & bok choy or the steak. Everything is really light tasting (not heavy with grease) and the portions are decent. This is a nice date place. Pros: good food, nice ambience Cons: parking more

I had to said Michelia have the best, artful and savory vegan menu. from the Appertizers to the entrees every things are wonderful. Not only the vegan menu, My husband is not vegetarian, he orderd from the regular menu, and I can see the sweetest smile on his face. This is the only restaurant that can make both of us happy.\r Chef Kimmy Tang is a great chef, you can see her passion of cooking from every dishes she brought out, full of love and delicate. And the warm welcome from the staff. Michelia is a great place to dine. Highly recommened Pros: excellen food, great service more

Amazing food! OK atmosphere 8/30/2006

Get ready for some amazing dishes. The variety of choice, from dumplings to seafood. meats and a large vegan menu, is unbeatable and the taste is beyond expectations. We had the steamed shrimp dumplings, shumai dumplings, and scallop grand marnier(wow!) for appetizers. Crispy sole, steamed seabass, and Buddha's vegan plate. All were amazing in taste, texture, and presentation. Desserts were also out of this world albeit few to choose from... but the selection of teas is quite impressive!\r Overall a great restaurant that we will definitely frequent as often as we can! Pros: Food, ambiance more

The best fusion food I've had in Los Angeles 6/22/2006

If you haven't eaten at Michelia, you are truly missing out! My husband & I were told of this quaint little (just a sprinkling of tables in- & outdoors) restaurant by a former colleague of his. Usually we are somewhat disappointed by recommendations, because sadly we have become food snobs. We were more than pleasantly surprised when we walked into this tranquil bistro and began perusing their menu ~ French cuisine with a Vietnamese flair, and for a reasonable fair! The chef & owner (Kimmy Tang) has done a superb job of blending all the flavors of her native Vietnam and delivering every course with culinary excellence.\r \r All of the appetizers are truly delicious (lamb dumplings are my husband's fave), and although the entrees are all quite yummy, you MUST try the Crispy Sole -- it's the house specialty. You will not be disappointed! This is the best seafood dish I've had here in L.A. -- it's panko crust is crispy, but not oily and the sole is cooked to perfection! Chef Tang offers an extensive vegetarian-only menu that is also quite delicious.\r \r They have an extensive tea menu which is sure to soothe anyone's gastronomic soul. The bar is limited (wine & beer only), but what they do offer is quite good.\r \r Reservations are definitely recommended, as they have their dining regulars who have standing reservations. A couple of nights we tried going on a Sunday, but the restaurant was closed -- please call ahead to confirm that Michelia's is open on the night you would like to dine. If you can, try to get a table next to the waterfall wall -- it adds to the tranquil dining experience.\r \r It is so rare to find a restaurant that has received such universal raves about the chef, the service and the food in Los Angeles. Even for the pickiest of eaters this is a MUST-TRY, which will soon become a MUST-DINE. Pros: Chef Tang is one of the best in L.A., the food & service are impeccable! Cons: Parking is a little tight -- recommend Valet as a timesaver (located in front of restaurant). more

Delectable thai fusion 4/20/2006

We started with the Crab Cakes, Lamb Dumplings, and Almond Sesame Chicken Salad. All were fantastic! My main course was Michelia Fettuccini. The prawns were huge, the noodles cooked to perfection, and the sauce was so light as to almost be nonexistint. This was a good thing. It was wonderfully flavorfull and not heavy at all. I loved it and would definitely go back! Pros: great food Cons: no street parking more

Outatanding In All Respects 4/1/2006

My favorite restaurant at the present time. It is absolutely perfect. The food is outstanding, the service almost perfect. So wonderful it is to go to a restaurant and get food I couldn't match in quality , presentation, and taste as I can cook quite well myself. The owner/chef came out and spoke to each table, that mede it even more special. My partner and I agreed it was fantastic both times we were there. Must try the Grand Marinier Scallops . Outstanding value for the great quality of food. Pros: Food, Value, service more

Gam ung! 2/23/2006

Nothing is more joyful than finding a restaurant that you can easily imagine lunch or dinner at everyday. Okay maybe not everyday, variety is the spice of life, but it wouldn't kill me. Rest assured everything on this menu is fantastic. This restaurant embraces the true sense of Vietnamese cuisine:flavor with out the whopping calories. Try the chicken wrap, which are fresh spring rolls. Chicken or filet mignon sandwiches are great and come with taro and sweet potato fries. Great place for vegetarians too, substite tofu or vegan chicken. You will not be disappointed. Pros: food, service, decor Cons: parking more

A Delicate meal 12/26/2005

Her successfully feed the hungry eye and belly with appetizer that are beautiful in flavor and presentation. you can see her passion of cooking from every dishes she brought out. Highly recomment the Cripy Sole with a French spicy aioli. and the Tamarind seafood. woo! this is a unforgetalbe meal that i haven't have in a long time. If you haven't try it, let check it out. more
