Best

I ate at Michelangelo's on Highland Dr. this weekend with friends. We all had a hard time deciding on what to order. I thought the menu had a great selection of tempting entrees...

Worst

Went to the new location on Highland. A nice place. Front desk was great. That is where is stopped. Waited 30 minutes to see a server, his name was Stephan, avoid this server. ...

Unprofessional Staff 5/26/2006

I can't recommend this place. Food was poor. Hostess was rude and unprofessional. Chewing & snapping her gum, stomping around in high wedgies. This place needs some help. If the owner doesn't want to lose business they had better improve the food and it's presentation & hire some professional restaurant people to work there! Cons: Seating, Staff, Food more

Authentic 4/16/2006

After just visiting Italy coming back to utah to have a huge serving of olive garden seemed blah!!!! Michelangelos is very authentic and a very romantic atmosphere. Although the seats were very uncomfortable...if you get a booth! Pros: authentci italian, romantic Cons: parking, booths notcomfortable more

Great Food. 2/6/2006

Italian staff and homemade pasta. I ordered the Fettuccini Bolognese. It was excellent. I loved the homemade pasta. It had a great flavor and texture. The sauce was exquisite. It was pretty quiet for lunch, and I was served very promptly. Seems to average $9/plate for lunch and $12/plate for dinner. Pros: Great Food, Fast Service(Lunch), Italian Staff Cons: Parking more

Wait Staff Sucks!!! But Food Makes Up For It. 2/1/2006

I have travelled all over Italy eating at little out of the way ""local"" resturants. In relation to that Michelangelo's is the best in Utah. I saw the chef the other day in Caputo's Market & Deli buy stuff wholesale (he wasn't buying the cheap stuff either). Most chefs just buy whatever crap a corporate supplier sends. Scott, the chef, was hand picking his ingredients from Caputo's a top notch local Italian food market. Please do something about your staff Scott, it really sucks. Pros: Authentic, Authentic, Authentic Cons: Service, Service, Service more

Burnt Garlic Vongole 9/29/2005

If you like burnt garlic in your pasta Vongole, then this is the place for you! I am not talking crispy browned garlic, but I received a dish with burnt, black charred crunchy pieces of garlic tainting the flavor of dry, sauceless pasta. The meni says it comes with white wine sauce -not there. Why: sauce and garlic cooked too long, and reduced down and burned. The clams were stirred in deglazed the burnt crap on the bottom of the pan, and the pasta was tossed in with parsley and olive oil. If there had been sauce in there with the burnt pieces of garlic I might believe the waiter who said that this was the intention of the dish. They did replace my dish not free of course. I had to wait 20 minutes to tell him that there was a problem with my dish. Pros: I dont have to goback Cons: Slowest service ever, Lamest excuses ever, Burnt black Garlic more

Hope your not looking for Sizzler 6/3/2005

If you like italian food done right, this is the place. If you don't like it, you've had one too many burgers. This food was great. Fresh pasta made after you order, not pre-coooked. If your looking for a place out of the way, where you can sit and talk, and actually hear the other person this is the place ! Pros: Food, Wine, cozy Cons: lumpy seat more

Awesome Italian 5/19/2005

If you love fresh made authentic Italian pastas you'll love Michelangelo Ristorante. All pastas are made fresh so it may take longer to get your food but you won't be disappointed. They have a great wine list and it's the perfect place for a romantic dinner for two or a business lunch. I highly recommend the homemade ravioli, no matter what it comes with it is delicious! Pros: Good Parking, Authentic, Fresh more

Worst Service EVER! Rizotto was horrible! 4/11/2005

Over two hours and forty minutes later, we finally got our food. The rizotto tasted like glue, the chicken was ok at best, the beans must have been frozen. After about two hours of waiting at our table for our meals (and who knows how many refills of water), the one refilling our water asked us the question of all questions, ""Are you two waiting for something?"" Uh, yeah, our dinner! Stay away from Michelangelo! Or I guess you could eat a good sized meal just before you go, so you won't be hungry while you wait... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.......... more

really bad first impression 1/4/2004

the service was unbearably slow and the chef threw several tantrums The food was expensive, but tasty; however, it wasn't worth the frustration of being ignored and really slow service. Pros: Good Food Cons: Slow Service, Expensive, Poor atmosphere more

Long Wait for Bad Food 5/14/2003

Overpriced and overrated. The wait was long, the booth was tight, the waiter was rude, and the food was marginal. In other words, I am not coming back... more

amazed 5/12/2003

This place is incredible. This is REAL Italian food, and it is divine. Trust me. Do not expect Tucci's or Buca di Beppo, because those are bastardized American versions of Italian food and they are NOT THE REAL THING, people. I will admit that it was expensive, but we got a lot of extras too. I feel it was worth every penny. This is our new special-occasion treat. Note: If you like the Olive Garden, don't go here. You don't belong here and you won't get what you're expecting. Pros: excellent food, ambience, good service Cons: funny location more

mamma mia! 2/25/2003

Michelangelo Ristorante 2/21/2003

ichelangelo Ristorante is my FAVORITE place to eat in Salt Lake City. The food is fantastic, the preparation is truly special, and the weightier are all gorgeous! My family is from Italy (second generation). When ever they visit come to visit me, they always demand to go to Michelangelos. I most Favorite dish is a special that they make quite often, its ravioli stuffed with veal and spinach in a cream walnut brandy sauce. Every bite is sinful. The atmosphere is homey with an ambiance that is anything but snooty. You are not going to get any attitude here. Pros: Best Food, Great Value, Good Looking staff Cons: Not open on sunday more

A Real Trattoria 1/21/2003

This place is a kick. You never know what sort of mood the waiters or the cook will be in. Before I recommend this place and I do, I make sure to tell people that the food is worth any seemingly rude treatment. Such as ""Go straight to the Entree, Paulo (the cook?) is in a bad mood."" or ""Only One Pasta for the table."" It is this treatment that helps make this place special and their refusal to kiss up is part of the package. Pros: great food, very Italian, Varied menu Cons: sometimes too nice, not rude enough, Why so nice tonight? more

MamaMiaIt'sAmazing! 9/12/2002

I am 100% Italian and can tell you that you will love this place!! It is amazing - the best I've had in Utah, hands down! Pros: Consistant, Authentic Cons: Uncomfortable chairs more

Tuscan Beauty 8/28/2002

Although not my favorite Italian restaurant in Salt Lake, Michelangelo is, in the least, a worthy choice. The antipastas and various salads are rich and abundant. However, as much as the homemade pasta (ravioli, spaghettis etc) is recommended, I usually pass and go for the rack of lamb (a flavorful special) or a chicken dish. Not sure if it's just a quirky coincidence but everytime I've had a pasta dish it has been both too salty and overcooked. The pasta had no ""bounce""... just sogginess. The wine list (most coming from the Tuscany region) is exceptional. Desserts are tastey. Pros: great service, friendly atmosphere, superb specials Cons: basement dwelling, pasta not up to snuff more

wonderful 8/24/2002

I go everywhere Italian. This is by far the best. more

Autentico Italiano! 8/14/2002

Having lived in Italy for two years and visited there several times, Michelangelo's takes the cake by far for authentic Italian food here on the wasatch front. From the simple yet romantic candlelit setting and the native Italian waiters to the delicious meticulously prepared food, you can't find a better Italian restaurant this side of the Atlantic. Buon Appetito! more

9.5 8/2/2002

This is easily the most authentic Italian restaurant in Salt Lake. Even the servers are from Italy and will treat you as if you are too. Pros: the food, the food more

the real deal 7/29/2002

I took my husband here for his birthday ... I was a little worried after some of the reviews, but we had a great time! The service was outstanding, as was the food. Our waiter told us the chef doesn't even have a can opener in his kitchen!! Everything about the place was like Italy. My husband lived there for awhile, and said he hasn't had food that tasted this good in a long time. We had penne pasta, gnocchi and tiramisu all of it was wonderful!! If you want an authentic experience, from the food to the people, Michelangelo's is definitely the place. Pros: Access to parking Cons: A little hard to find more
