Metropolis is a cute little bar/tapas place on the way to Corolla. It's tucked in a shopping center that has not much to recommend it but Metropolis and the neighboring Gigi's restaurant. Metropolis is new, with a well designed interior based on a boat theme (Metropolis was the name of a boat that wrecked just off shore), but not in the musty old seagrass-and-ducks style of most places down here. They have a full bar with a full page of designer cocktails and a menu of delicious sounding Mediterranean style tapas offerings. Amazingly, though, their beer prices are some of the cheapest on the Banks, with domestic microbrews running only about $3 a bottle. Metropolis hosts live music a few nights a week and is a worthwhile stop if you're itching to get out of the house in the evening.
