This place is off the chart fantastic. I have been to many Ethiopian restaurants and this one tops them all. I love it and will continue to go as much as possible. Pros: Foo...

Authentic food in a casual atmosphere 9/28/2006

Located in the Central District in a somewhat (but gentryfying) shady neighborhood, Mesob serves up the standard Ethiopian food - the lamb and beef and veggies on the inerja bread. No silverware, you eat with your fingers (would be nice if they gave you more napkins). I'd recommend the combo or veggie combo, a big pizza size pan with the different stewed veggies/sauces/meets covering the inerja bread and some more bread on the side for dipping. Don't settle for a seat in the tacky flourescent lit front room; go around to the back for the somewhat better atmosphere of the bar. Try their Ethiopian beer (bottled) or the tea, which is like hot cider that you add the jasmine tea bag to. Some late nights a DJ will set up a sound system in the bar and play what I imagine is Ethiopian pop/dance music. Makes for an interesting dining experience! more

The Owners Bring a Very Authentic Experience 3/16/2006

I used to love Mesob for three reasons: 1) for about $10, I could get enough food for two people. 2) they have a lot of vegetarian options. 3) they're so darned different from anything that I experienced growing up. They serve their food on a spongy African bread that one can use to eat the various foodstuffs served with the meal, which is great for people who love to play with their food. However, if you're squeamish about certain hygiene issues, you may wish to go somewhere else. They occasionally burn frankincense, which definitely adds to the atmosphere. more

Mesob Ethiopian 8/17/2005

Mesob is the best Ethiopian restaurant in town! I love African food and have tried many of the restaurants, and this is the best. Thanks to my friend Solmaz for introducing me. If you go, get a veggie combo and a mesob combo for a party of 3-4 and enjoy all the tastes the restaurant has to offer! more

Great food great price 7/26/2005

Getting Messob's Ethiopian food has become a habit for our family. At under $15, the Messob combo feeds three people. Messob definitely has some of the best Ethiopian cuisine in the city. They also have an excellent vegetarian combo. We usually order a meal for pickup and take it home. You can also dine in quite comfortably. This is not a fancy restaurance by any stretch, but the food makes up for it. more
