Too busy playing Keno to care..... 6/4/2009

The last three times we've been to MS there's been a big crowd at one end of the bar-""managers"",servers and a cook or two- playing keno and watching TV.The first two times the server came over directly from the bar as if a table being seated in their section was some major inconvience. In an area with more restaurants than people with money to spend, you'd think that ANY customers walking in would be treated like gold not a nuisance. The food wasn't bad but the overall disreguard for the guest and doing anything resembling service was appaulling.I could even hear the manager complaining to the bartender that he was losing money at keno-maybe he should try running his restaurant instead of playing games. In the 45 minutes we were there on this Sunday afternoon he only got up from the barstool to check his tickets-WHAT A JOKE.My wife and I cannot believe that they have the same owners as Mr.B's across the street! Maybe someone can open a real bbq restaurant in RO because calling this place a restaurant is laughable!!!!!! Pros: Great music Cons: Employees don't care more

STAY AWAY!!!!!!! wouldnt eat there for free! 11/22/2008

what a JOKE this place is. it used to be an awesome hang out and they actually had good food years ago. what the hell happened?? my dinner looked and tasted like dog mess on a plate. and it wasnt even warm. its obvious they just dont care anymore. the place is dirty, and the food is plain revolting. and i had the unfortunate pleasure of having to talk to this little ass-turd manager when i had a complaint. what a creep. he was holier than thou. get OVER IT BUDDY!! your place is the town JOKE!!i wont bore you with the details, but my 10 year old son couldve kicked this short little loser over and knocked that smart @($ grin off his face. and also...nice thugs you have working the door.they scare away the little customers you have left im sure. Pros: none! Cons: theyre still open for business! more

Save Your Money 10/28/2008

We thought we would try it, I love BBQ. What a mistake, The food was Nasty, with the exception of the Alfrado my daughter ordered. (maybe they should consider Italian) The waitstaff acted like they did not care. The BBQ tasted like it had been sitting in water for a couple of days, the ribs were not good at all. Have had better at a coney. I would hope the owner reads the reviews written, in times like this he needs to make some changes or close the doors. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Pros: No Pros, although I did not hear the band. Cons: Many more

Great band, excellent barbecue 10/11/2008

I heard a band called Topaz and Mudphonic perform here. They were amazing and the food was excellent. Wouldn't recommend the cole slaw. good stage and sound system, great sound man. I'd say give it a try just for the music, but I loved the barbecue as well. more

I should have went somewhere else!!! 8/31/2008

Thought I would try something new. A place I have never been to. Lets just say I won't be going back. I ordered soup, gumbo to be exact. It looked like Sh*t and it was cold not even room temperature. So I had them take it back. The waitress suggest a potato soup. The only thing hot there was the potatoes in the soup. For dinner I ordered the Gulf Shrimp Scampi Pasta. Its already bad that your eating in the dark, so I should be able to trust that my food is right and ready to eat. NO, the damn shrimp still had the tails on it and it ddn't taste to good. What the Hell. I'm like the review before, the only thing they got going is the roll. Who owns this place, I'm pretty sure they don't even eat there. The look on the waitress face, she had me thinking that she wouldn't eat there. What do I know she could have been smilling. Anyway, I wouldn't feed my dog this. Pros: Parking was Great. Love the Roll. Cons: Food Sucked, I want my money back. more

Terrible service and food! 5/15/2008

My boyfriend and I went there for lunch today, my water had something floating in it and when I kindly asked the waitress for another glass of water she got an attitude. My ribs were tough and burnt! My boyfriends steak which he requested it to be well done was bloody and under cooked. The second time the steak was cooked it was still bloody. The sides that we ordered were not good at all. We requested Jack Daniel's steak sauce and was given gravy and was told that was steak sauce. The best thing there was the bread and drinks. I will never go there again!!!! more

Memphis Smoke House - Consistently......Inconsistent 12/30/2007

I agree with all the reviews written on the Memphis Smoke house. Sometimes it?s good, other times (which is mostly I?m afraid) it?s really mediocre or even poor. It?s as if they have different chefs that cook differently on different days. The meat is generally average at best, tough and poorly prepared at worse. The service staff numerous and ...uninterested. The only thing going for them is that they are the only BBQ in the general area. If another BBQ place opens up and they are good.....Memphis won?t stay in business long. These people just have a great location which is saving them, but that can change. more

Not Memphis Pit BBQ 9/27/2007

I've had the good fortune to have lived next to Red Hot 'n Blue in Laurel, MD, and to have lived a within a mile of the original Jack Stack Barbecue in Kansas City. (Jack Stack is rated #1 in the US for BBQ by Zagat's). Those are true smoked BBQ joints - with their specialties and +/-s (Pulled Pork and nachos at RHB; Burnt Ends and Beans at Jack Stack). This place doesn't smoke the meat - you can tell when there is no smoke rising and no hickory smell as you approach. The music may be decent, which would make for a great BAR, but the food is NOT BBQ. The baked beans had no meat (try Jack Stack's!) and were obviously warmed in the microwavve; the pork was pedestrian. On an upbeat note, the onion ring stack was unique with strong cajun seasoning flavor and the ""sour green beans"" were also unique; neither was particularly tasty, but at least they did not seem like a run of the mill Applebees or Chilis offering. \r Bottom line - go here for standard food - but this ain't Barbecue, it ain't Memphis style, and sure as all get out ain't smoked. Cons: not smoked + not memphis style + not barbecue = NOT GOOD BBQ more

great food great service 8/28/2007

My wife and I had a great night out when we chose Memphis smoke. We started with dinner I had ribs and she had pulled pork. I had never had smoked ribs before my wife being from the south suggested them and they were amazing. She loved her pulled pork it was a sandwich and it came with two sides a huge amount of food for a small price. The band that night was very entertaining Joclyn B and the Detroit Street players they sure brought in a big crowed. Our waitress was the greatest she was so friendly my wife was a waitress so if she says its good service then it is. Pros: service Cons: meter parking more

The chef is smoking something other than meat... 7/8/2007

Memphis Smoke... well I'm not sure what they're smoking, but it's not ribs or beef brisket. The meat quality was very poor... the beef brisket was inedible... it was tough, definitely not smoked, and was cooked more like a potroast... even then it was bad!!! The ribs were babyback and mostly bones... There wasn't enough meat on the bones for me to get a real flavor. The catfish was good. All in all... I don't think I'll be going back for dinner. Pros: Parking Cons: Food more

BBQ? YEA RIGHT 1/25/2007

I HAVE HEARD THE MUSIC IS GOOD. BUT THE FOOD, WELL THEY NEED TO LEARN HOW TO SMOKE FOOD. AND FOR BEING A BBQ PLACE, THERE SAUCE IS TERRIBLE. KETCHUP WITH VINEGAR . THE COLE SLAW WAS BAD FLAVORLESS, AND SO WERE THE BEANS. TIME TO START OVER, GET RID OF THE CHEF. WE ORDERED 5 BONE RIBS, AND EACH OF US ONLY GOT 4!!! GUESS THE OWNER IS MAKING SO MUCH MONEY HE DOESN'T CARE. HE MUST OWN A COUPLE OF THE OTHER OLDER PLACES IN TOWN. BUT THE WAITRESS WAS GREAT. Pros: HEARD THE MUSIC IS GOOD Cons: BBQ...HA ....ALL MEATS TASTE THE SAME more

Good place 4/18/2006

The food was really good. I had the ribs and my husband had the chicken and it was winderful. I would recommend this place to any one. The Band was also great. Pros: Food, atmosphere Cons: parking more

Awesome Music! 4/15/2006

We went here for the music and had drinks and dessert as well. The band that night was incredible!! (The Glen Eddy Band). Next time we visit Michigan, we're definitely going back! Pros: Music, Friendly Staff more

I will not visit Memphis Smoke again 11/24/2005

This was the third and last time I will visit Memphis Smoke. The waitress was inattentive, took a long time, forgot things and did not serve all the food at once. The quesadilla I ordered was burned black! I can't believe food was brought to the table in that condition! No one else at the table was happy with their food. When the waitress finally brought my quesadilla back out it looked fine until I turned it over - it was burned black again! In fact, it looked like the same one except just turned over. When I pointed it out she said, ""Can I show it to the manager or are you still eating it?"" You have to be kidding! Additionally, we asked for a non-smoking table and the table right next to us had two ridiculous chain smokers. We will never eat there again! Cons: the food was awful, the place was dirty, it was smoky more

Smoked up Blues and chumpy ribs! 11/18/2005

MS is the place if you like limited menu of barbequed food.Almost all is great. The chicken is nice, just right, the ribs delicious, steak is great-best tasting steak for less than $20 around. Daisy Mae's Fish-Chips is pretty good. The Gumbo (or jambalaya?) is average, not spicy enough; if you want to add in shrimp, dont! Unless you feel that paying extra for 3 over-cooked chewers is acceptable.Pasta? Yep, and it is good! Vegerations: don't bother; there is not a lot for you here! If you have kids, (~over 5yr olds) go for it. Portions are great, reccomend the fish-chips or ribs. Particularly if you don't mind your kids having sauce all over their faces. Pretty good selectection of beers available; taps seem kept ok too. Service: No issues, always seated fast, recieved a good reception. Tip:Don't turn into a sports bar.Turn down tv and play blues. Pros: Tasty, Kid Friendly, Blues Cons: Loud TV's s/times, Lack of veggie food more

Average joint that is highly overrated 4/21/2005

The atmosphere is the only thing this place has going for them. The food sounds great on the menu, but it was incredibly mediocre (and they took forever to come out with it). I've been twice. Both times we were seated promptly and then just as promptly ignored by the hostess and waitress. The service was terrible! The second visit our hostess was pretty rude to us because we wanted a booth (two of us arrived together, one came later). If you want good BBQ look elsewhere. If you want to mingle and chat and you don't care about the food, this is your place. more

rrrribs done right 10/7/2002

This is a fun eatery. It attracts a very diverse crowd that has only one thing in common: a love of barbeque. The main dining room is loud, even when the ubiqutious band isn't mashing the sound out, so don't think of this place as a dater's dream. Because I'm a creature of habit, I always order the dry rubbed ribs. Never been disappointed. Companions I've taken have been more adventurous, and rave about the wet ribs, pulled pork sandwich, and jambaylia. I'm a repeater here for lunch & dinner. Chances are, if you give this place a try, you will become one too. Pros: lip smackin' foods, honest pours, smoking allowed Cons: wait for table, loud more

Great Food 9/8/2002

I love this place, especially now that I've discovered the upstairs deck! The food selection was good - the jambalaya great. Sitting outside was wonderful, but if we hadn't been able to find a table away from the bar we would have been blasted out by the music. Prices were great for the food too. more

Food and Fun 7/23/2002

Just plain terrific barbecue. Add you just have to love a place with Osama Bin Laden's picture in the urinals. more
