Fantastic bier garten 11/22/2008

Mecklenburg's is a bridge to Cincinnati's German roots. The ambience of the beer garden in warm weather is fantastic. The bar area has great warmth with lots of woodwork and a cozy atmosphere. Ditto for the dining room. Early birds are older folks who have been going there for decades, and later crowd is a younger, more eclectic mix. Get a huge liter beer, a good import or one of the local Christian Moerlein beers. I recommend the simpler fare over the entrees: locally made brats and metts are excellent. The pricier sauerbraten, pork schnitzels, etc., are OK but not a good value. I hope they upgrade the quality of the entrees. Pros: Beer garden, beer selection, locally made sausages Cons: Mediocre entrees more

Disappointed 6/14/2007

Seated in a lovely outdoor garden did not appease the terrible service. A group of eleven, we were informed separate checks were not a problem. We waited for drinks, food and then had to finally ask for our checks. The checks were incorrect but management did finally come to help out as we paid and exited out to the door ? a bit late. Pros: ambience Cons: service more

This is the hidden gem of German cuisine in this city! Bratwurst, Mettwurst, Kraut, everything here is excellent. Service was top notch. Very festive with Bavarian tones. The beer was fantastic. Real German beer went so well with the food. I cannot imagine a better restaurant to simply just hang out at and have a few beers. Very friendly vibe and I reccomend to anyone. Pros: Food, Beer, Beautiful waitresses Cons: NOTHING! more

Fine Geman Cuisine & Beer! 10/23/2003

Located near Cincinnati's campus area, it is really not located in the best of neighborhoods (as evidenced by some graffiti on the side of the building). They have a tiny side lot and there is street parking nearby. Mecklenberg has a nice German look to it, and the exterior keeps with the theme. The biergarten is covered in foliage and has a nice atmosphere. Inside there is a lot of wood, breweriana, an old piano, etc. They do a great job with the look and feel of the place. The beer selection definitely leans toward the German persuasion. They have about 14 draughts and 40+ bottles. The service was very good too. The food was every bit as good as I had hoped it would be. The bratwurst was top notch and they make a decent prime rib as well. This place is a must-stop if you are visiting Cincy. Pros: Atmosphere, Food Cons: Bad neighborhood more

Pretty Good 4/20/2003

Food is pretty good but on the rich side, of course. Portions are large. On the small side. I will try to eat outside next time. Cons: Guy playing accordion, Location more

While my cousin Helen was having hip replacement surgery at Christ Hospital, I slipped out with my neice to grab a burger and beer. It had been over thirty years since I had been to Mecklenburgs, but I knew it was close around. I just put my brain on autopilot and suddenly it appeared on my left. It was like going back in time, and this time I was old enough for a beer! The Mecklenburger looked a tad bit smaller than I remembered as a child, but the taste brought it all back home again. There aren't too many authenic Germen restaurants in Hawai'i, so it was a treat to the tastebuds when I ""grind"" those potato pancakes. The beer was Bock and the service excellent. Oh yes, Helen is doing fine. Aloha for now, John D. Myers more
