I purchased a used Honda 2013 CRV on 10/12/2015 for roughly $25,000. The first day driving it home, I noticed every time I let off the accelerator, the car would jerk. I reported this to the dealership and they told me this was due to the new CVT transmission and that I would get used to it. I had to bring the vehicle in for repair a couple days later for the seat warmer not working properly and again complained about the vehicle jerking and got the same response. A few days later when I brought my vehicle in to get a protective product applied to my vehicle, I again complained about the car jerking and was told the same thing. On 11/17/2015, when I started my vehicle, the car died within 3 seconds of being started. I started the vehicle again and it once again died in 3 seconds. Next I started the vehicle and pressed the gas all the way to the floor and keep it depressed and it kept going back and forth between 2,000-3,000 rpms, never going above 3,000. When I contacted the dealership, they scheduled me to bring the vehicle into the service department at 7am the next morning. When I went to my car to drive it up to the dealership, it wouldn't start at all. It took over half an hour just to get the vehicle started before I was able to slowly drive it up there because the engine wouldn't go above 3,000 rpm. The dealer inspected the vehicle and informed me it would cost $1500 to replace or $750 to repair the cable. I contacted Honda Corporate and the dealership and district representative refused to budge on what they would offer for the repair. I was told during the purchase that my bumper to bumper warranty covered the engine specifically, but now it isn't. The sales, finance and service staff and management claim they stand behind their vehicles, but clearly do not! more

Terrible service department 12/2/2012

The absolute worst service department I have ever taken my car to. Beware - taking your car in for something as simple as an oil change can be a terrible hassle. The two occasions I came for oil changes, there were extra "repairs" tacked on to my bill that I had neither asked for nor consented to (and which I doubt were ever done). I wasn't informed that anything was being done to my car (outside of the oil change) until the service adviser brought me my bill. The oil changes are also much more expensive and take much longer than anywhere else in the area. more

BUYER BEWARE!!! 9/25/2011

BUYER BEWARE!!! I was at McGrath Honda in St. Charles on July 30th for for a scheduled oil change. After being told that my vehicle was ready, I was given my keys and paid $92.85 for the B1 oil change service. Upon driving off the lot, my low oil light was on and I noticed a rough sound from the engine. The temperature gauge also went much higher than typical. I traveled east on North Avenue before turning around on Tyler road and bringing it back to the dealer- there was no new oil put into the vehicle with the oil change service. I sat at the dealership for another 1.5 hours while the vehicle was looked at. I was told that the oil was then replaced and that my vehicle had been run through tests. Afterwards, a McGrath associate stated that he was confident there would be no further issues and I left with my vehicle. I took the car home and the engine was still making a strange sound. I returned to McGrath Honda later that evening and was given a loaner. The following Monday (August 1st), Jeff Dowell (service manager) called me and stated that the engine was damaged beyond repair and McGrath Honda replaced the engine. I have made 4 requests as to the year of the engine, all of which have gone unanswered. Additionally, I have made 5 requests for a refund of $92.85 of the service which have also gone unanswered. Also, I have not been given any documentation as to how many miles are on the used engine or why it was available. more

Worst dealership to buy a car 6/15/2011

I bought a car May 19, 2011 and it broke down May 24, 2011. It is now June 15, 2011 and I still do not have my car back nor have a received a single call updating me about the progress. The service is horrible and sales managers have no idea what's going on with the cars they sell. If you are thinking about buying a car, go to dealership that does not have McGrath on the front of the building. more

Not a great place to buy a car & service is poor. 4/21/2007

Bought a new 2007 CR-V, The finance manager is very tricky and sly, the sales people are ok though, but do your homework, you will get a 4% better rate at a bank, I had to refinance my car when I found out I could get a 6.5% APR and not the 9.38% the finance manager got me. WATCH OUT!, the finance manager will check your credit at about 20 banks to wreck havoc on your points so you will have a hard time refinancing it! Do not sign any credit forms! Just go to the bank. The service department is the worst I ever seen, Mark the service manager will always tell you that "its normal" when your car is broken. When I took it to my local Dealer O'Hare honda, Frank fixed many problems that Mark at McGrath would not want to. more

Great place to buy a car 8/5/2005

A no pressure place to buy a Honda. The prices are competitive and they don't push a lot of the extras. If you buy your new car from them, they offer a free loaner for 100,000 miles. The service department is wonderful. The waiting area is spotless and comfortable. They have a separate children's playroom as well as a big screen television, and internet access. They offer a free shuttle to the nearby mall or other destinations within 5 miles. more
