New Owners! 8/8/2010

I was googling this bar that i now stop in frequently to see if they had four square and noticed some of the poor reviews from a couple years ago show up! This place is under new ownership and is awesome so i had to say something! The food is great, service fantastic, and they make everyone feel welcome. Great speacials and entertainment too! I don't know what it was like in the past, but right now it really is such a great spot!! more

Rude Staff 6/25/2008

It was my first time at the pub. I went with a friend who said she used to come there frequently and as another reviewer stated the service was awful. We were served by the most rude bartender I have ever encountered. He actually got really belligerent with another friend who was with us, just because our friend tried to give him an American Express card for our bill. They do not take American Express and had posted a sign on the door which we had evidently missed. I don't think there is any excuse for poor customer treatment so I will not EVER be returning there. There are other cool pubs in the area, such as Yeats, which is right around the corner. Pros: decent live music Cons: poor service more

Comfortable, casual hang-out with very nice people 2/16/2007

I live within walking distance of McCloskey's, and I consider it my neighborhood pub. It's got great beer selection, a sampling of nice wines, and the food is much better than most Irish bar fare. The kitchen often experiments with interesting daily specials, to go along with the staple burgers, shepherd's pie, and wings. But don't be fooled - there's also nice seafood dishes, steaks and pasta. The service is outstanding and everyone is very pleasant. It only took me two trips to feel welcome. I'm now a ""regular"" and visit at least once a week. On the weekends they have acoustic music which isn't over-powering, but a nice back-drop. Loud enough to be enjoyed, but not so loud you have to shout at the bar. Pros: Big menu, daily specials, beer selection, great service Cons: Can get smoky when crowded more

great irish brews 10/7/2006

My husband and I tried this one out the other day, and we were pleasantly surprised. It's tucked just off Lancaster Ave, so it has a little more pub character than some of its counterparts. The food was pretty good; they have your traditional Irish fare - beef stew, shepherd's pie etc. They have a good selection of Irish brews. The restaurant is cute and quaint. I can imagine it would be a great bar to enjoy a few beers in. As a place to dine, it's great for a casual, down to earth meal. Although the food was good, we had a bad experience with our waitress. Just because we weren't ready to order the minute you see us doesn't mean we don't want ot be served. Instead of giving us a couple of minutes to decide, she gave us about 15-20. Awful. But I will go back because I enjoyed the food and ambience. I will just not be seated with her as my waitress!!\r \r Pros: Cute, cosy Irish bar Cons: bad service more

Squirrel Boy Serves up a Great Guinness! 4/17/2006

McCloskey's is a great place to grab a Guinness and some pub fare - a hidden Main Line treat. ""Squirrel Boy"" Brian is the friendliest and most amusing bartender on the Main Line. Check out McCloskey's on nights with live music. Highly recommended! more

Hidden Gem 7/25/2003

McCloskey's is where the Ardmore locals go for really good casual meal and drinks. The Beef Stew in a bread bowl is awesome. I'm a big eater and was hard pressed to finish it. The owner is a really nice older gent and is often there hanging around talking to the regulars at the bar. Ususally a good guy or guys playing varied acoustic music as well. more
