Douglas McMullen a very good doc 2/26/2010

I was a patient of Douglas McMullen 10 years ago (I moved to Dallas). He was my primary care for about 10 years. I found him extremely competent and really did care about his patients. I would use him again as my primary care. more

thank you - this was helpful 8/10/2009

In my experience it has been very helpful to check out a doctor before making your first appointment. For every posting that someone goes through the trouble to register and report a negative experience, you better believe several if not hundreds may have had similar experiences. I've failed to trust negative ( even if only one) reporting in the past and I have had some unbelievable experiences. My insurance recommended this doctor to me and I goggled him and based on these accounts, I will not waste my time calling Dr McMullen. I also recommend that if a person is refereed by the insurance company.. call them and let them know what others are saying and why you will not go to that Dr. Also, if you see a problem reported with office staff then stay away! Staff is a true reflection of the doctor and your value as a patient. more

HE IS THE BEST DOCTOR EVER. PREVIOUS POSTS ARE FALSE. 7/31/2008

Dr. McMullen is a very intelligent and caring doctor. He really cares about his patients and makes sure everything is checked out. His self-made vitamins worked amazinly and I owe him for saving my life. more

A very good doctor. 4/5/2008

I had all confidence in Dr. McMullen. His vitamins were an option I opted out of, but I appreciated his thoroughness and usual sense of humor when I saw him. I always felt like a valued patient, rather than an inconvenient stranger like in many doctors' offices. He did recommend a lot of tests, but if I asked, his staff would verify whether it was covered, or give me the codes to find out myself. For the poster looking for records, last I heard, they were in the office of the other doctor in the same building. I got mine, but somehow, a few important pages got skipped. \r \r He was able to diagnose my adult daughter and to refer her to the proper specialist, when three previous doctors told her ""nothing is wrong.""\r \r I was truly sorry after years with the same doctor, that we didn't get the opportunity to tell him goodbye before having to change to a new doctor when his office was closed. I hope he is well now. I felt like we'd lost part of our family when we lost touch with him and his staff. I hope they are doing well, also. Pros: Personal, friendly, thorough. Cons: We moved, and his office didn't. more

BEST DOCTOR EVER 2/4/2008

Douglas N. McMullen is the kind of doctor you wish every doctor you met was. From his friendly caring attitude to his preventive care plan to keep you healthy under his care are the most meaningful as his patient. In an office visit it was never rushed and he took time in explaining your test results and giving you his recommendations. His office support staff was friendly and personable and was timely in getting referrals more

THE BEST DR IN TOWN 1/24/2008

First of all let me say my name is Selena and I dont have to hide behind a fake screen name like others here!!! I worked for Dr.McMullen for several years and was very proud and lucky to work with such a wonderful doctor, father, husband, and friend! I just wanted to take some time to respond to these outrages claims about Dr.McMullen!!! Were you people get off stating it's Dr.McMullens fault that YOUR insurance carrier doesnt want to pay your Dr. for YOUR care is just plain stupid! Dr McMullen coded visits by the way he saw patients unlike some Dr's that get swayed and bullied by patients to LIE and code things the way they want it so they dont have to many anything !!!! Thats called FRAUD people!!!!!!!!!!! It is your responsibility to know YOUR benefits and know if the Dr is on your plan. It was a courtesy for Dr.McMullens staff to verify benefits wich were done before EVERY physical / and or fiirst visit! On the other side of it why you people dont think that Dr.McMullen should be paid for the services he performed........Do you buy groceries prepare a meal prepare a meal and dont like the way it comes out and go back to heb and tell them you want your money back.......NO ....Well maybe you do!!!!!!!!! And about his vitamins they are the best its not a home made reciepe he cooks in his garage come on people get a grip! And lets not forget your comment about physical......Allot of Dr's reqiure that you have a physical to establish your self and its a smart thing to do god forbid you come in for something minor and he just treated you for that and you leave and die of a heart attack because you wouldnt allow him to do a ekg ......Then you would be saying he didnt do enough So with all that said have a blessed day AND STOP SAYING THINGS ABOUT THE BEST DR IN THE WORLD!!! Pros: The best preventive care you will find! Cons: No Cons just that some people dont like to pay there bills more

Medical Records? 1/22/2008

Dr McMullen is a perfectly fine doctor. Unfortunately he got sick and had to close his practice. Does anyone know where he sent the medical records of his patients? I got a letter from him but lost it. more

Dr. McMullen is a fabulous doctor 5/9/2007

Dr. McMullen is the best doctor I have ever seen and I've seen plenty. He is thorough, and solved my medical problem by actually ordering tests other doctors wouldn't. While he is expensive, it's the best money I've spent because after years of no one being able to help me, I finally feel better. I also take his vitamins and have noticed more energy and my skin looking better. Ignore the negative comments by others if you're actually looking for a good thorough doctor. I can't get a repairman out to my house for less than what this doctor charges. Highly recommended. Pros: This is the most thorough doctor I have ever seen Cons: Cadillac service, but worth it more

Aweful! Go to a clinic- even a veterinarian. 3/19/2007

The worst!\r Staff is worse!!\r Buy some of my homemade vitamins and take some aspirin- that'll be $300. more

Someone has to be the worst doctor in Austin! 3/16/2007

Thinking about Dr Mac? A well lubed finger won't be the only thing stuck up your..... well you know. Be prepared for overcharges that insurance won't pay for (you will!), an office staff that is worse than you can imagine, a 3rd party billing firm out of New Jersey and a diagnosis that will result in the pushing of homemade vitamins. Try to get overcharges, miscoded charges or any other billing issue resolved will introduce you to a staff of folks who don't give a damn about the patient. You'll find better folks working at the Department of Motor Vehicles.\r The first thing you'll do when you visit is sign release that you'll pay for anything they overcharge or mischarge for. So ""Bend over, and open your wallet!"" \r Another clue should be the state of the art equipment in the office. The X-Ray equipment is circa 1950. I have not seen a dime of investment in modern technology or equipment. I must agree with others, primary interest is your money and insurance money. Best advise recieved to date was to wear my seatbelt.\r Currently pursuing small claims suit for duplicate charges, miscoded charges and charges that others include in the primary charge. Only thing missing here is a charge to use the restroom..\r So go to Sam's and buy some vitamins, wear your seatbelt and drive to another doctor! There are over a thousand doctors in Austin, someone has to be the worst.... Pros: Location is near a good Gyro Restaraunt Cons: Office staff is rude, Doctor overcharges, Doctor pushes his own ""medicinal"" products more

money pit + not a good doctor 3/8/2007

I went to Dr. Douglas Mc Mullen for general checkup. After taking my chest x-ray, asthma test, taking EKG, blod tests, he also took my leg xrays even though he is not an orthopedician (I had complained him about a specific pain to get referral to an orthopedist). He looked at my leg xray and said everything looked ok which turned out to be incorrect when I visited a real orthopedist the following month.\r Total cost of that one check up was over 2200 dollars (billed to my insurance), of which I had to pay $290 out of my pocket [since some items he filed was rejected by my insurance]. I was not able to talk to anyone in his office about the rejected claim.\r I had been going to regular check ups (usually once a year) and never had I before such an obvious scam played to my face. I recommend people to stay away from this doctor. Cons: too many unnecessary checks ups, files rejected insurance claims that you are later responsible more

Unexpected Bills from Dr McMullen 1/24/2007

Be Aware!!! Dr. Office does not verify insurance before they see you. I was seeing Dr McMullen for years then on day I got a bill for $1200 stating his office no longer accepted my insurance. NEVER was I told upfront that my insurance was no longer accepted. The simply checked me in as usual. I tried to talk to their staff regarding the discrepancy but they were not at all apologetic or helpful. Hard to take a $1200 insurance bill right after you get back from your honeymoon. The sad part is that if I would have known I would have just visited another Dr. I have GOOD insurance and pay for this coverage monthly through my employeer. The last straw was when I they scheduled me in for an appointment and then called me that morning to tell me I couldn't see the Dr until I payed the full amount. I had even been making payments at $100 per month! Pros: Friendly Dr. Good location Cons: Office did not verify my insurance then billed me in FULL more

Very thorough and shows lots of concern 8/12/2005

I agree with lucybellecallie - this is a very thorough doctor who leaves no stone unturned when diagnosing a problem...so much better than the doctors who just tell you that they have no idea what's wrong, throw you some drugs, and tell you to just live with it. Also, I have heard that other doctors come to Dr. McMullen for advice on cases. To me, that is a sign of someone who is highly respected and not just mediocre in his field. Pros: Thorough, Caring, Highly Experienced Cons: Slightly Gruff, Old Equipment more

Praise for Dr. Mullen and Staff 7/27/2005

Our family could not be more happy with Dr. McMullen. He is thorough, non-reactive and encourages patient participation in their own case. He is well versed in current thinking but adds the extra of senible holistic guidance. I could not disagree more with previous review. Pros: Short wait, Thorough explanations, No billing issues Cons: Long wait for lab more

Completely Frustrating - beware. 6/25/2005

Know this before going:: The Office policy= full physical ""baseline"" exam for ALL new patients. Try to start your relationship while you are actually sick (likely?) - and they will require this 2+hr ordeal - including ekg, x-rays, etc. before they'll even discuss what's actually bothering you. Charges to you/your insurance for these tests will be SUBSTANTIAL - and I would question the value of these ""baseline' tests when you are already wrecked with fever/cold/etc... sounds like a ""revenue"" rule to me. For the record, I think Dr. McMullen is quite competent - but I have changed physicians due to the cumbersome and abrasive nature of doing business with his office. Pros: location Cons: "policies", bad staff/billing, expense more
