Genuine instructors & comfortable beginner's class 5/23/2006

After 2 years of saying, "I'm going to try Yoga," I finally did this past February, which proved to be a good decision during the dreary winter months. I decided on Maya because I read about it while walking home one day. The brochure described a beginner's class that took about 6 weeks, once per week. I'm the kind of person that likes to learn how to do things right and not jump into things haphazardly so having a beginner's class was good to learn the fundamentals and highly recommended no matter which studio you decide on. The class was just the right size of about 10 people. Mari, the instructor was the perfect teacher for beginner's. She taught us the history and vocabulary of Yoga in a very patient and caring manner. Never once did I feel stupid or out of place. After graduating from the class my girlfriend and I decided to do the 2 month trial membership for $100, which is a steal! We started going 2-3 times per week and got to experience instructors of all kinds from men to women to drills sargents to nurturers. Classes with Tami were perfect for me and my skill level as she was patient and took the time to go over tough poses and correct your mistakes as she walked around and observed the class. One other thing I discovered is that a lot more men do Yoga than I would have guessed. Maya is a solid studio and offers all kinds of other services from acupuncture to meal planning. Most everything about the studio is inviting and convenient. However, the scheduled times could often be tough to make and I often thought they could use more later times to accomodate people's work schedules. Sometimes it's hard to make 5:45 classes. more

Nice atmosphere for yoga, pilates and massage 3/13/2006

Maya Whole Health Studio offers services that help you achieve … whole health. Classes include different types and levels of yoga, pilates and soaring crane, and Maya has contracts with a number of professionals that offer skin care, bodywork, accupuncture and nutrition services. At least on massage therapist is a preferred provider for a number of insurance plans, and I suspect others are too, so check before you pay. I have done yoga before, but I took their intro to yoga series to go back to the basics, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the class and the teacher (Mari). It’s a very calming place, which is what you want out of a yoga/massage place. They don’t list prices online, but I think I calculated at one point that the drop-in price works out to $11. One more advantage of Maya – they are right in downtown Fremont. more

Didn't Scare My Man.. 6/8/2005

My husband was somewhat leary of getting a massage..Not sure exactly why. I asked around and one of my friends recommended Erin Usher at Maya Whole Health in Fremont. Erin is the owner of the business, and for some reason, she is the cheapest practitioner there! She charges a mere $70 for an hour and a half massage. My husband came home completely revitalized, and she actually went a little long because he was the last client of the day! more
