VERY UNPLEASANT 4/18/2010

Terrible customer service 6/18/2008

Food is good, but customer service horrible. I went there recently with my family for my anniversary. The bill was over $100.00. My wife had a coupon for $25.00 which I discovered when I presented it had expired 4 days prior. Despite being a resident of Highland Park and a long time customer, the person in charge REFUSED to honor it saying it had expired. True, but I felt that losing me as a customer was certainly not worth $25.00. I would rather go back to a restaurant where someone is appreciative of my business. more

I've always wanted to go here because on Saturday afternoons there would always be a line at this deli. I... more

Great veal breast 11/24/2006

Here's a place for good, solid Jewish deli. Very good soups and sandwiches. The stuffed veal breast was done just right and seasoned perfectly, but the stuffing was nothing to write home about. The deli fried matza with lots of corned beef, salami, onions was a real treat. Family friendly. Parking is good, although the lot can get crowded at times. We've never had to wait too long for a table. If you like Jewish deli style food, definitely check this place out. Pros: Solid Jewish deli food Cons: Service can be spotty more

Great Corn Beef on Rye and Matzo Ball Soup 11/16/2006

Love the food. A little noisy at times. Children not always controlled by parents. Pros: That true deli feeling Cons: Hard to park more

Jewish deli with a diner atmosphere 4/24/2005

Despite the editors' comments, I've never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes for a table - the bigger challenge may be finding a parking spot on the weekend, despite the large lot. Max & Benny's does the ""Jewish deli"" very well, but nothing else about the menu is remarkable. The decor is low-end and dated and the service is simply average. If you're in the area and have a hankering for a pastrami, stop in. Otherwise, don't feel like you're missing out on anything. Pros: Authentic Jewish Deli, Seating Cons: Decor, Rest of menu more

Thumbs Up from an East Coaster 5/26/2004

My family is from the NYC/NJ area, so you could probably guess that I'm pretty picky when it comes to Jewish deli fare. Having arrived in Chicago under the typical East Coast bias that good Jewish food just doesn't exist out here, I was more than pleasantly surprised at the quality of the cuisine at Max & Benny's. This is the real thing, youseguys, so whether you're an East Coast transplant, a Chicago lifer, or someone from a place where Jewish delis don't exist at all, you need to swing by this suburban deli for some authentic bagels or bialys! more
