Best

I've gone to Max Fish occasionally - but regularly - for about 10 years. It hasn't changed - even most of the bartenders are the same. Great, friendly place - most of the people...

Worst

too bright and too crowded, plus it takes a year and a half to get a drink. some hot girls make it tolerable though.

I wondered if it would live up to the hype.... 9/30/2006

i did a lot of research online before my 21st birthday for a fun, cheap bar to go to. i had a bunch of friends coming so i didnt want to dissapoint...i heard awesome things about max fish, so we decided to check it out- the drinks were cheap and made veryyy strong, the jukebox was pretty awesome and the decor was so cool! it lived up to our expectations and more. added bonus- no stuck up attitudes from the bouncers or bartenders like there always are at other places. :) more

The Hipster Paradise 8/13/2005

If you're a guy and wear girls jeans, or if you're a girl and wear cowboy boots - Max Fish is the place for you! A known spot in the Lower East Side to attract the rockers and the hipters, this bar offers good drinks for a reasonable price, a pool table, and back booths for a more intimate setting. Always crowded, "The Fish" will provide you with some good stories the next morning. more

Editorial
  • One of the earliest settlers in the neighborhood's now white-hot scene, this funky spot continues to be a favorite hangout for downtown musicians, artists and dive bar aficionados. They keep coming for the pool table, vintage videogames, stellar jukebox, cheap drinks and fashionable scene. On weekends, the tight space seems even smaller as bar-hopping hipster crowds stream in from Ludlow Street, but the old neighborhood vibe settles back into place during the weekdays.
