Matthews Salon Spa

I was given a gift certificate to Matthew's Salon Spa for a massage. When I walked into the salon, the girl at the front was super sweet...offered me coffee or tea, took my coat. It was a nice way to be greeted. The massage was amazing!!! Thanks Em! I highly highly recommend her to anyone who needs a relaxing massage but also needs their muscles worked. Wasn't your average foo-foo massage. It was so much more. After the massage she gave me a bottle of water, took time to show me around the salon a bit. Walking through the salon all the staff seemed very friendly and presented themselves professionally. I highly recommend this place and will be coming back myself. AA+++ Matthews Team!! more

I went to Matthews Salon in Dewitt after meeting the owners and their friendly staff at the WISE convention. Jeannie, my hair stylist, surprised me with 1) a neck/scalp massage and 2) a hand massage while my highlights were processing. While the surroundings were blissfully peaceful ( I love the pond in the front) , it was Jeannie's extra attention that got my attention. I love my new haircut and Jeannie's caring professionalism. I have never written a review in my life and I felt the need to write one after I got a haircut from Matthews. I asked the stylist to put layers in my hair and keep the length. He completely ignored what I asked for him to do and did whatever ""he"" thought would be good. Now, I HATE the way my hair looks. My hair is short, blunt with no style, heavy looking with hideous bangs that cover my eyes (the bangs I did NOT ask for). Moreover, the whole time I felt like I was getting a haircut from an aveda sales person, not a stylist. more

I went to Matthew's because it was an Aveda salon but it shouldn't be. I had to go to another salon and pay $300 to fix what Matthew's did to my hair (both the haircut and the dye). I got nothing that I asked for, the girl just did what she thought should be done to my hair and completely ruined it. I would never, ever go back there. more

Matthews Syracuse- dont waste your $. horrible massage. i was rubbed like twice a second, was not ralaxing or therapeutic at all. Music was some woman moaning and drums playing. I was disgusted. Good thing it was a gift certificate and I didnt waste my own $ on this. I got a pedicure, ive had better at oriental shops. this girl kelly purposely painted my nails so i might come back next week because the polish was higher up. it was HIGH off my cuticle hen i walked out the door. She did nothing except rub lotion on my feet. not a typical invigorating aveda pedi ive had in geneva, ny. Kelly even said,""there is no ""aveda pedicure, every place is different ""and it sure is. She also did the carribean spa treatment on me. absolutely positively horrible. spent 10 min telling me that ""this is not a full body wrap just your back and feet."" no scalp massage as in the brochure. Stay away is my advise. Worst ""spa"" experience of my life. Aveda should pull out of there. Cons: just plain terrible more

I went to Matthew's salon last night for the first time. I've been looking for a new hairdresser and saw the recommendations on here and thought I'd give it a try. Jeannie did my hair and I couldn't be happier! She was very professional and gave me a great cut.....go see her. I'm so excited that I've finally found someone in the area that knows how to cut hair. She took her time and made me feel like she really was trying to make me look my best..definitely worth the money. Pros: Jeannie is great; scalp and head massage included! more

I have been very happy with Matthews Salon. I had all the girls in my wedding go there for their wedding package and all were very happy. I also have been going there for the last 4 years for Haircuts, color, manicures,peds etc... I always get very friendly and professional service. I had a wonderful stylist professionally style my hair and take her time to make me look great. I was totally impressed with the style and would certainly come back and have here do my hair again.. Her name was Jeannie. Very impressive... Pros: great job on my hair more

Matthew's has a second location in Cazenovia, about 20 miles from the Syracuse salon; same company, smaller salon. Husband and I went there last night for his haircut, as it appears to be the toniest salon in Cazenovia and we're new to the area. I had an appointment for this evening and cancelled it, after seeing how he was treated and how poorly his hair was cut and styled. After making an appt over 2 weeks ago the stylist called twice the day of the appt to ""move the appt up,"" which we could not do (very unprofessional). Apparently she wanted to leave early and he was the last appt of her day. Then, after thoroughly explaining how to cut/style his hair, she got out the razor and just went to town - no style, thought, expertise - just a rush job that took her about 8 minutes and cost him $35. Completely not worth it and we won't be going back. Pros: a pretty location Cons: rushed, unprofessional, expensive more

I recently came here for a few services...ie...facial and haircut. I like to try new places as I am new to the area. This is one that I will not be coming back to. Unfriendly, unwelcoming atmosphere with low quality service. DONT RECOMMEND! more

I have had facials here before that were decent, but today's was the worst I have received anywhere. Not a major thing, but I was surprised from the start when the receptionist did not offer me water or tea but did to the woman entering after me. More importantly however, the woman giving me my facial performed the treatments hurriedly, and at the worst, left me in the room for a 10 minute ""bathroom break"" only to come back reeking of cigarette smoke which I could smell on her hands as she finished applying products to my face. Will not be returning here for service, even though not all past facials here were bad, too inconsistent for my taste. The only positive was my appt began on time, though ended early. more
