Definitely unique, but the place needs updating... 5/15/2006

It's definitely an experience eating here with the plush couches and having to eat with your hands. Don't forget the belly dancer portion which may have you poking around in the dark to find your food. The food is fine, but it seems this place is more about the experience than the food. So it's nice for larger get-togethers, but maybe it's the eating with your hands concept that didn't allow me to get full. And how does one eat cous cous with your hands... and not make a mess or a spectacle? The place is also pretty dated and has a dingy feel. But be sure to head back to the restroom and see the celebrity pictures on the wall. more

Marrakesh Restaurant 3/30/2006

This is a very nice restaurant in DC. I was here with my company. We had our end of year department festivities here. With a party of 20 I didn’t expect much but this place really delivered. Our meals were all wonderful and the food came out promptly. This is a very well run restaurant. All the food is amazing. more

A must-visit 3/27/2006

Anytime I go to Washington, especially with a group, the Marrakesh is a must-visit. They are very accommodating, even for groups of forty, with prior reservations. The prix fixe menu is excellent - the seven courses include the most amazing lemon chicken known to man (it falls off the bones, and I've sat with people poking between the bones trying to find just one more succulent bite). I'm not a fan of the minty tea at the end (tastes like my toothpaste) but I have friends who gladly take it off my hands). As with many such restaurants, soft drink refills (on those small, small glasses) are not free. Stick with water as your base beverage. more

Great food, amazing atmosphere! 9/3/2005

This place is excellent for group outings. You have two options for the meal--vegetarian or meat. For meat, you can choose beef or lamb. The meal is something like 7 courses. It starts with a handwashing by the waitress. You then have the courses brought to you one at a time. You sit on cushions and eat at low tables. Everyone eats from one big basket and you use your hands--no forks! It all adds to the experience and the food is amazing. There is also a bellydancing show several times a night. It costs about 40 bucks a person, so not cheap, but great fun! more

7-Course Moroccan Feast 6/24/2005

Marrakesh is not somewhere you go to eat - it's an incredible experience. From the 7 (yes, SEVEN) courses on the prix fixe menu to the dimly-lit, low-couched seating to the communal food plates, to the belly-dancer, you will never forget your experience. The food highlights include a phylo-dough type pastry flilled with chicken, nuts, and egg and covered wtih powdered sugar; a lemon chicken that will melt in your mouth; beef or lamb kebobs; baklava, and jasmine tea. Don't be fooled by it's somewhat sketchy New York Avenue surroundings - Marrakesh is a true find. more
