Moronic Crooks! 8/13/2010

I live around the corner from the Marlton Diner and on occasion some friends and I will stop by to grab lunch or a late snack. The food and service are usually good but tonight (Friday, August 13th) the diner experience was horrible to say the least. There was three of us eating tonight. We ordered from (Glenn), a waiter, who from the start was well spoken and detail oriented. The food came but the omelette was not cooked the way it was ordered. It was supposed to be an egg-white omelette but it was not. He asked if we wanted to send it back and get it re-made. We asked if the cook would be upset and or mad about this, he replied, ""maybe"", so we kept it but didn't eat it. Before Glenn left the table he said, ""I will take it off the bill for you"". My friends left and I was there when the bill came and to my surprise the omelette was still on there at $8.00. When I went up to pay I told the cashier about the discrepancy with the bill. She went in to the kitchen for about 8min. She came back with a dark haired manager resembling a Gothic nightmare. She told me the egg whites were taken off, so I paid. The price was still the same. I questioned her about that and asked to see the check. ""Nothing was taken off the bill"", I said. She repeated, ""the egg whites were taken off"". The problem here was that the egg whites were never on the bill and Glenn said that he would take the omelette off for us. Well, they gave me the run around for about 10min until Glenn came out from hiding and spoke to me. I brought it to his attention and he said that he took it off. I pointed out that he didn't even put it on the check in the first place. We argued for about 6min until I told him to stop bullshitting me and take the omelette of like he said he would. He disappears. I am ignored for about 10min. I finally asked him again what was going on... So he tells me that he would take care of the $8.00 and I asked him, ""how are you going to take care of the $8.00 Glenn?"" He looked dumbfounded. Before I knew it, I had the manager, the cashier and Glenn standing in front of me. They were discussing the check and how they couldn't do anything about it now because it is closed. I called Glenn out in front of them saying, ""Glenn, you said that you would take it off"". He looked at the floor and couldn't look me in the eyes, the Gothic, Dracula looking manager, who lied to me at the counter about taking it off earlier told me that she couldn't do anything. I stood in disbelief at the fact that these people just flat out lied to me and were giving me the run-around over a friggin' omelette that wasn't eaten and that was to be taken off the bill from the beginning because the waiter Glenn said it would be, mainly because he screwed up the order. I just said, ""your customer service really sucks and you are a bunch of crooks for $8.00"". Normally, I would have just left but there's ethics involved here and the people who left me to pay were gone. So, needless to say, I was paying for a mistake that the waiter said he's take off the bill and never did then lied about it. The management, not only being scary looking, is a liar also, telling me she took off the egg whites, which were never there from the beginning. MORONIC CROOKS! DON'T SPEND YOUR MONEY THERE....HORRIBLE SERVICE ALL THE WAY AROUND. more

Great Greek Salad 12/9/2008

I read some of the other reviews of this place, and some of these people seem like real drama-queens. One guy was talking about age discrimination, one was a 'discount-seeker', and one wrote the entire review with the CAPS-LOCK CRUISE CONTROL ON. It seems that some of these people have never been to a Jersey diner before. To the guy complaining about age discrimination because the waitress referred to him as 'kid', get over it. In a Jersey diner, the waitress will likely call you 'kid', 'hun', or 'sweetie' regardless of your age. They don't mean any disrespect...that's just how diner waitresses speak. I actually find it kind of endearing. Well, enough ranting. On to the review. I have been going here off-and-on for years, and have never had an unpleasant experience. The service was prompt, the food was good, and the prices were reasonable. I've tasted most of their menu, and the Greek salad is my favorite. If you are a Greek salad fan, you must try theirs. All-in-all, a pleasant place to eat. My only real criticism is that they do not offer free refills on coffee. Pros: Great greek salad, reasonable prices Cons: No free refills on coffee more

Superbowl Let-down 2/4/2007

It was Superbowl Sunday '07 and I had no interest in watching the game because my friends all decided to back out (after all, no Eagles). The past several months for me had been very disappointing and emotional times, so on this night I was looking for some fresh, new place to eat and possibly meet different people. As it turned out, I couldn't get away from the game because it was playing on their tv. The staff had a pool going. Most of them were gathered around the tube above the bar and I was seated nearby. Well I was one of few customers at the time and everything was fine- commendable service, decent food, friendly atmosphere. They were socializing and laughing it up, which is normal. I do it myself at work every chance I get. But then they started to talk trash about customers in general. What kind of disrespectful treatment is that? And then one waitress just had to keep it going, saying of me, ""This kid's probably thinking 'Oh I'm never coming back here again' "" I was sitting right there so what could I possibly say? First of all I'm not a kid- so to label me such was age discrimination. Even 'this guy' would have been a little better. So here's this jolly clique of diner employees I never met before and I'm being talked about in the third person. Whatever happened to professionalism? Now of course, every normal business must have a little trash-talk sometimes, but it's supposed to be done elsewhere- in the kitchen, after the customer leaves, etc. Anybody in the restaurant/diner business knows this. I wonder whether or not they were all sober, or perhaps if common courtesy is just not in their (collective) vocabulary. Either way, that's the kind of lack of hospitality that could hurt any business. I was uncomfortable and didn't know how to respond, so I paid and left without another word. Like I said, the food was great. It was their negative attitudes that put a bitter taste in my mouth. So as it turned out- that waitress was absolutely right on! Pros: Good food, prompt service Cons: Staff had negative attitudes towards customers more

Bland at best 10/5/2006

I read the reviews and wanted to skip this place, but my Mom had a few good meals here... I had the chicken caesar wrap. I had to keep adding salt, because there just wasn't much flavor. My Mom said her tuna wrap was good, but it was just a mediocre experience overall. The menu is ugly and confusing, and it's very standard diner. And the waitstaff was blah as well - looking, behaving. You'd do better going to the McDonald's across the street. Or if you want tasty ""diner food"" go to the Silver Diner on 38. Pros: My Mom paid Cons: Bland, the reason I don't go to diners more

Would not recommend 7/8/2006

Just got home from eating there. The salad was excellent along with the dressing. Ordered Open faced roast beef and was the worst I ever had. My mother ordered the same with the same thoughts. It came with a gravy base, not roast beef gravy and was really piled high with beef, I can't say that the portions were small, it would have been way too much. It had no taste at all and ruined my desire to ever have roast beef out ever again at any restaurant! I absolutely could not eat it although my mother did try to. The beef wasn't old, it did look fresh. When complaining to the waiter, he just said that that was the way it was made, no interest in my complaint at all. I told him I wanted a discount because I could not eat the beef, and the manager did bring us the bill personally. I can honestly say that no one ever came to our table to see how our meal was to complain early in the meal. I told him that I loved the salad and vegetables but that the beef was horrid. The meal was $9.99, I was charged $6.95 for the salad and a dollar something for the two vegetables. I had told the waiter that I was willing to pay for what I ate, which I did. But, the last word needs to be said. If the main course (the roast beef) was only a dollar, that should tell you how it must have tasted. You get what you pay for!!! Don't frequent this diner, and if you do get the salmon. That's what my father had and he was pleased with it. Cons: The menus were so sticky the pages stuck together. more

EXCELLENT - THE BEST IN SJ 8/29/2004

This place is exceptional. The food is excellent, the service is friendly, the managers are caring. This place runs like a well oiled machine. On weekends there may be a little bit of a wait, only because the food is so good, that everyone wants to eat there. Believe me, it's well worth the wait. Best Fries in SJ!! I recommend any of the Chef's specials. Amazing sauteed dishes as well as mini meals for people like me, that can't have those huge portions. Pros: Good Food, Good Service, Atmosphere/Decor Cons: , wait more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME 2/1/2003

WHAT AN LOUSY EXPERIENCE. IT FEATURES STANDARD DINER FARE AT A MARKED UP PRICE. THE FOOD WHEN IT FINALLY GOT THERE WAS TASTY, BUT COLD. THE SERVICE WAS ALMOST NON EXISTENT. MY FRIEND AND I WAITED 45 MINUTES FROM BEING SEATED TO BEING WAITED ON. THEN WE WAITED ANOTHER 20 MINUTES UNTIL THE MANAGER ASKED US HOW OUR FOOD WAS, IN WHICH WE TOLD HIM WE HAD NOT BEEN SERVED OUR FOOD YET. WE RECEIVED NOT ONE APOLOGY FOR THIS LAPSE IN SERVICE. WE FIGURED THIS MAY BE DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT HAD JUST OPENED, SO WE GAVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE. THE SAME SITUATION OCCURRED. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTUARANT TO MY WORST ENEMY LET ALONE A FRIEND. IF YOU LIKE LOUSY SERVICE, UNCARING MANAGEMENT, MEDIOCRE FOOD AND JACKED UP PRICES...THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. Cons: VERY POOR SERVICE, LONG WAIT FOR SEATING, PRICES HIGH FOR DINER more
