Best

Good, relaxed service. Pleasant outdoor seating. Wonderful corn pancakes. Wonderful stuffed omelettes! Thank you, Maria's!

Worst

This is bastardized Mexican cuisine. When I heard there was a Colombian restaurant in town, I literally tore over to Maria's only to be let down. Sorry, not great.

Not the same! 12/8/2010

I have eaten at Maria's Cafe many times throughout the past 5 years and this time was awful. As other post said the service is always slow and I have no issue with this as if you travel to latin american countries this is common. I will wait for good food and great service. more

Will no longer be a Patron 9/26/2010

I have gone to Maria's Cafe numerous times throughout the past few years and have always had a good experience. But I will never go back again after this past weekend's experience. It seems as if they do not read other's complaints, because my complaint is very similar to everyone else's...Cold Food and Horrible Service! In our case, they had no excuse because the restaurant was not busy at all. I ordered the special, which arrived cold and missing the sausage...and when the sausage finally arrived, it was cold too. My girlfriend ordered the veggie omelet and we shared the corn pancake. The corn pancake was brilliant but not good enough to give Maria's more than 1 star. Its funny to think that they offer all of the flash but don't take care of the fundamentals. I listened to beautiful latin music from the live musician but then had to endure terribly cold food. The only other compliment I can offer was that my server always kept my coffee cup full and asked how we were doing. She knew we were unhappy but I just didn't have the energy to complain about the horrible meal. more

Great Great Food! (plus how you can get great service) 3/9/2010

Ok- here is the deal with Marias Cafe. I have been there several times over the past 5 years and I have had both great and awefull experiences. I have always enjoyed their food and have never ordered anything I didnt like. I have had food brought to me cold and I have seen the confusion that happens at the counter with the running of food. I have also had slow service, from both server and kitchen. But for the past two years, I have never had a bad experience for I figured out what to do. If you are there on a weekday, the service should not be horrible. The head servers are all quick and helpful. the rest of the staff is usually good...and if they are not, LET MANAGEMENT KNOW! the management really cares. On a weekend, you have to try to get a good server. Just ask for Carl (the only guy server there), Sania, Jess or Alissa. Carl rocks! I always sit in his section and he takes care of all his tables and keeps them happy. He will bend over backwards for you if you are pleasant to him. He is chill and will even sit at your table to answer your questions...if the vibe is right. Sania is the veteran of the group and she knows her stuff. Jess is good and efficient, though seems a little sassy. Alissa is new but good. She can be a bit scattered, but she will get the job done. Give this place a try. the food is worth the trip, and the service can be great too. Pros: Amazing pancakes (corn pancakes with cheese)! Cons: you have to ask for the right server more

Cold Food and Horrible Service 5/7/2008

Breakfast Columbian style sounded like a great plan Sunday morning. The four of us arrived around 11:00 and although it was somewhat busy we were promptly seated. 10 minutes later our waitress ""greeted"" us without eye contact and stood about two feet away, she then complained that she could not hear us and could we speak up? The few times she returned to bring or refill coffee she would not look at us - it was very strange. About 30 minutes later our food arrived; although the place was somewhat busy we could see orders completed and ready to be served waiting for up to 10 minutes. Not surprisingly, when we received our food it was room temperature - mmmm, room temperature eggs. How does this place stay in business? Pros: Promptly seated Cons: Horrid service and cold food more

Major Disappointment!! 1/27/2008

Maria's was recommended by a friend so we were excited to try Columbian food for the first time. We have tried many other types of Latin food so we were no stranger to it, so we went on a Sunday morning to check it out. We had good service, though the couple next to us was seated way before us and were not even greeted yet by the time we ordered our meal. They had to get up and ask for help. I can see where service may be a problem here, the wait staff seemed clueless. Pros: Corn Pancakes are delicious! Cons: Horrible egg dishes with no flavor more

Minneapolis' best flapjack. 6/25/2007

THE singular best pancake in Minneapolis. I'll put ONE of Maria's world-class pancakes up against a stack of the competition. Yes - Even better than the original pancake house. more

Horrible Service! 1/28/2007

On Jan 28th at 12:55PM my friend and I entered Maria's. We waited a few minutes and were seated in the dining room near the counter service. more

Muy Bien! 9/27/2006

Wow...I love Maria's for breakfast...Lots of nice, granola-hippy servers! The corn pancakes are simply divine. Be sure to get them with the cheese. Maria's is always full on weekends but they get us in fast. Service is quick and efficient. This is one of my favorite breakfast spots in the city! Pros: Corn Pancakes, Delightful Coffee Cons: No Sweetener on the table...Is Maria anti-sweetener? more

Mmm...huevos... 6/15/2005

My sister and brother-in-law recently took me to Maria's for breakfast, and it was a pleasant surprise. I had the huevos pericos, which were delicious. My sister had the corn pancakes (not to be confused with cornmeal), which were also fantastic. A mango juice topped it off. Good, friendly service and outdoor seating too! Definitely check it out if you're looking for something a little different at breakfast. Pros: huevos, mango juice, service more

I will love you forever, Maria! 12/14/2003
