We had a family function there and I have to say, we were let down. The waitress was crass and I personally had food removed while I was still eating. And my sister's unfinish...

Disappointing Experience 9/26/2010

Never again. Planned a ""special"" evening out with out-of-town guests. We all ordered different things from Fixed Price menu. Portions were very small; caesar salad was tiny with two croutons, fried shrimp appetizer with just two shrimp (come on!), but lobster salad was good. Entrees were just okay (nothing special) and I hated the macaroni side served with mt pork chop. Then there was dessert - VERY slow in coming (that shouldn't happen when they had the entire order up front. We asked the person refilling water glasses to please check on this and she said ""I'm not your server."" Wrong answer! Dessert finally came. Creme Broulet was ""soupy - I mean you could have poured it out. Sent it back and got key lime pie instead. All of us felt that this was an awful dining experience. Left 10% tips (we gererally leave 15% to 20%). Unless this was just a BAD night for Margaoux, I simply could never recommend it. They convinced us NEVER to return. more

My fav 9/12/2010

My favorite in Raleigh. The food is very good, and the atmosphere is enjoyable. more

Normal, everything is just normal 7/3/2010

just normal-not worth the price at all. normal service, normal food. we ordered scallop and shrimp, both the flavor and amount are just so so, nothing special. Pros: nothing Cons: high price, slow speed more

Great Grub 5/12/2010

This is a really good restaurant. We held our comnpany's Christmas Party there in 2009 and everyone raved about the food. My wife and I have been back several times and loved it. Pros: Food, appertizers, drinks more

Enjoyed 1/17/2010

Have had 3 really good experiences here. I have only eaten in the bar/loungey area. Restaurant looks a little funky. Service has been better than I expected and the food has been great. Pros: bartender more

Exceptional Service and Food 1/17/2010

Let me start off by saying this is one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The price isn't inexpensive, so if you are cheap, stay away. But I will also say it was well worth the money. I would rather go here once a month then spend $50.00 once a week at an Applebee's. What we had: goat cheese stuffed ravioli-which was exceptional, caesar salad and apple, walnut salad-once again exceptional, main entrees were the grouper and the filet from the vintage menu. Both items were fantastic. Now on to dessert: key lime pie and tiramisu bread pudding. Both were wonderful. Everything was perfect. Only thing I will say is that if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful evening, be VERY specific as to the location where you want to sit. We were in the middle of a high traffic area, which could be distracting at times. If you can request a server, ask for Melanie. She was by far the BEST server I have ever had. Attentive, yet not obnoxious or annoying. And, she clearly knows the menu. My husband joked that she might be a ninja because she was right there as soon as our food arrived, when it was time for a refill on wine, water, etc. We will be back! Pros: Milieu was Fabulous Cons: Be specific when making reservations more

Amazing Staff & Decor 12/8/2009

I wanted to share the great time I had at Margauxs a few Fridays back. Having been there primarily for work related events in the past, this was my first time there to basically relax and enjoy the entertainment. I had never taken the time previously to actually look around the restaurant, and was genuinely enthralled with all the detail and time spent on the restaurants interior. The band was great, and people were obviously having a very good time. Despite how crowded it was, the bar did a great job keeping the drinks flowing and the customers moving. The staff were extremely friendly and after starting up several conversations with both the waitstaff and other patrons it was obvious that the people working there were very familiar with their current clientele as well as were more than willing to invite new people like myself in on the fun. I not only had a great time, but made a few new friends I look forward going back out with in the future. I would highly recommend visiting this establishment in the futures when they have Friday night bands. Pros: Staff, Surroundings, Entertainment more

Average - Just average 12/7/2009

Just average - not worth the price in my opinion. I was expecting much more in terms of taste/flavor of food and atmosphere. I had a petit filet and apple crisp. Petit filet was ok and apple crisp was just stewed apples, no crisp to it. Bland, boring and I have had much better food at Coquette. Pros: Nothing really too positive - just average Cons: Noisy (echos), smoke filled smell more

I love this place 6/25/2009

I have been going to Margaux's for years and have never been disappointed. The food and service have been outstanding. They always make us feel at home and is my go to place whenever we go out with family or friends. I am looking forward to going to the lobster fest tonight for the 8th year in row. Pros: food, service, atmosphere more

Margaux's - THE place to dine 6/19/2009

Margaux's is a wonderful restaurant which NEVER ceases to amaze me in a very delightful way! I've lived in the south a long time and have eaten shrimp and grits many times for breakfast but I have got to tell you, the staff at Margaux's have really outdone themselves! I had lunch today and tried their Saut? Sweet Shrimp over Anson Mills corn grits & Applewood smoked bacon gravy. Wow! What a delightful flavor! It was quite a mixture of ingredients which melded into a really wonderful taste delight. Once I tasted it, I didn't stop until my plate was completely clean; it was so good, I ignored the people I was dining with. I've seen shrimp and grits on the menu several times prior, I just didn't try them. Today, Steve suggested I might enjoy them and he was totally correct. My father-in-law, Harold, recently visited us so we took him to Margaux's for dinner. Harold loves cooked oysters and as luck would have it, there were oysters on the menu. Harold liked the oysters so much, we had to return two nights later for more. That is all we hear about from Harold is how Margaux's prepares the best oysters he has ever eaten and at 84 years old, he's eaten quite a few. Harold was very impressed with the atmosphere, the cleanliness, and the complete attention and professionalism of the staff. This is quite an endorsement from Harold who has very discerning tastes. Superb service, truly wonderful food, awesome ambiance, these are things which keep my clan returning for more and more tasty delights! Pros: Excellent food and a staff who will really spoil you. Cons: Can't think of any. more

margaux's a great place 3/26/2009

we all went out for a special occasion and was our first trip there. it really seemed everyone went out of their way to make us as welcome and comfortable as possible, which was a nice change of pace from eating out at most places, even the owner was involved. top notch service. the food was excellent as well and my wife and i thought things were underpriced. the only drawback i thought was the wine list - i expected it to be up to par with the rest of the experience, and was a little dissappointed. with a name like margaux, you expect some nice french bordeaux, as well as some depth covering other wine regions of the world. not so. seems california was well represented. but hey, if this is your only drawback, that is not so bad. just bring in someone who knows wine and viola! fixed! definately recommended to all that read this. Pros: great service, terrific food, nice ambiance Cons: wine list more

Excelent Birthday Location 2/23/2009

I wanted to go somewhere new for my 22nd birthday and I stumbled upon Margaux's through a friend. We made reservations for a group of 10, which changed to 12. They ended up giving us our own room for the party. The staff was excellent. Water was always full, but we weren't interrupeted in conversation ever by the waitress. The food was also great. Usually when a group of young people (we are 20-22) goes out, you are treated a little worse than an older group, but not here. I appreciate that they treated us like any paying customer. more

Dissapointment 1/13/2009

I rarely go out to lunch; however, I met a friend at Margaux's because I had dinner there a while back and it was very good. I ordered the Steakhouse salad, and I think the menu said crab, bacon, cheese, etc. The salad was of a reasonable mound, but for $9.95, a bit pricey. It had some gooie dressing on it (my bad, I did not ask for dressing on the side, which would have probably provided me with a fresher salad!), a large number of croutons (filler), some bacon pieces and the yellow and ribby part of the romain lettuce. I counted maybe 6 partially green leaves and the rest were yellow. The ""crab"" was of the ""pre-fab"" seafood pieces variety, and hardly any of it. If you go, skip the lunch salad. It is not very good, costs a lot and was not very healthy. more

Food buzz 7/30/2008

I've been eating at Margaux for at least ten years and I keep coming back. I can honestly say I've never had a bad- or even average meal. My wife and I ate there tonight and as I sat back after the delicious Roast chicken and calamari I declared I had a ""food buzz"". The food is just that good. The host and staff are sophisticated. The decor urban and artsy. But the food is devine. My only complaint is that I wish there were more French wines on the extensive wine list, but I understand that their selection is based on their patrons' wishes. Pros: Varied menu, exotic dishes more

Best place to eat in all of Raleigh 7/8/2008

I have dinned at Margaux probably 15 times and each was an adventure in great food, great atmosphere, and excellent service. If there is one thing you can absolutely count on at Margaux, it's that you won't be disappointed when you go there. It's such a treat to be able to pick a new dish from the ever evolving menu and know that you will be pleasantly surprised at the twists on tradition the chef has created for the meal. If its an evening out with friends for drinks, a quiet business lunch or a romantic meal your looking for, Margaux is the place to go. Pros: Staff, food, atmosphere, location, variety more

WOW - Awesome Restaurant 7/7/2008

Talk about great service, awesome food and a fun atmosphere....this is the place!! I have been taking my wife, family and friends here over the past 10 years and have never been disappointed. I know there have been restaurants closing down due to the economy, but I know this restaurant will live on forever because of the fanstastic dining experience second to none! I've been to restaurants in NYC, Florida, California - paid twice as much but had half the experience. Not to be missed...... Pros: IT'S a Thumbs up from me................. more

Best Restaurant in North Raleigh!!! 7/7/2008

My husband and I have been enjoying Margaux's for 15 years. For every special occasion, family times, visits from friends and co-workers we always choose this restaurant above all others. The service is impeccable, the food is of the highest quality and there are lots of items to choose from on the menu. In addition to this, the owners are always on point to ensure an extraordinary dining experience. We highly recommend this restaurant !! Pros: Big Thumbs Up!! more

Worst restaurant experience EVER! 6/30/2008

We went to Margaux's with another couple and experienced an extremely long wait time on the food (which was mediocre, at best). I asked for my steak well-done and they sent it out completely burned! When the waitress came back after I sent it back she told me that chef said, ""This is my well-done"". The waitstaff was all very scattered and refilled my half-empty glass of Sprite with water more than once. They also took away the breadbasket without asking us if we would like a box for it (instead of them throwing it away, what a waste!) Pros: NONE! Cons: Food, price, waitstaff, chef, basically everything! more

Unique Food - Hidden 6/27/2008

I just had dinner there last night, and I loved this place! I didn't know it was there, until a friend of mine told me. Their menu is diverse and had enough for me to return. The waitstaff was attentive, but not too pushy. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat. more
