Overpriced - Small Portions 2/11/2011

I stopped in Marathon Grill today returning from Macy's back to the office. I ordered a ""Control Freak"" salad where I chose the items to include. When the salad was finally prepared (after 15 minutes) I looked in the bag and there was no roll. I asked the unfriendly woman at the counter if rolls were included and she shot back a nasty ""NO""! I took the salad and went back to work. I had ordered two different flavored dressings on the side and was given the same dressing twice. The lettuce looks semi-wilted. The Marathon Grill on Sansom is much better and the employees there are at least pleasant. For $12.50 I think I can find another restaurant that will include a roll with their salad as most places do. I won't be returning any time soon. more

Marathon Grill at 1339 Chestnut is Yuck!! 3/10/2009

I work across the street from the Marathon Grill at 13th and Chestnut and over the years have gone there for lunch on two ocassions to eat in and about four for take out. I have to say this is some of the most terrible food I have eaten. The following has been my experience. Pros: Decor Cons: Food more

Marathon Bar (Upstairs 10th & Walnut only) 3/4/2009

Being at a friend's going away get together, I got a taste of slow service from a tall, voluptuous but slow and inattentive barmaid. Out of grapefruit juice. Out of Guinness on tap. First time there but I believe in first impressions. Pros: Barmaid's looks (I'm a male chauvinist oink oink). Cons: Barmaid; Karoke night was Rap & too loud. Youth oriented. more

Not all the Marathons are bad.... 12/5/2008

Living and working in Center City there are at least 4 Marathons located within walking distance. I will preface by stating that I LOVE the Marathon on the Square! The employees are friendly, professional and you never need to ask for a refill, seriously, some of the best food service employees. The food is great and the take out too. However, I cannot recommend the sister Marathons 13th and Chestnut nor 10th and Walnut. Terrible take out from ordering, to picking it up, to opening it up (look at your order before you leave the restaurant if your odering take out, chances are the order will be incorrect or the lack of food in the box.... truly a rip off!) The $11.18 nicoise salad with barely any tuna is the reason for my review. Note...I never ever, ever gave a review before this date on any restaurant. So if your visiting and must go to a Marathon Grill restaurant try Marathon on the Square at 19th and Spruce. more

Slow service, horrible food 10/6/2008

Had dinner at the Marathon Grill Saturday night. Not only were they out of 3 different things on the menu, what we ordered was horrible. Calamari as an appetizer...no flavor, completely tasteless. My husband ordered the swordfish which was covered in oil. Swimming in it. I has the Truffled mac &cheese. This was also tasteless. Our waiter was very slow, never checked on us, it took 35min to get the bill! We will never go back and try to tell anyone to stay away! more

horrible food and noisy 8/31/2008

The salmon i ordered is burnt and hard to chew. Too expensive for the quality of food. I paid around 20 bucks for getting a entree and a drink. Pros: oreo cookie smoothie is good Cons: serving is slow, horrible food , noisy more

Our favorite place for breakfast while staying in the area. 1/30/2008

My wife and I love this place. I would eat here every morning for breakfast. Great menu items, large portions, average prices, decent service, good quality of food coming out. Very tasty! more

What happened tonight? 11/17/2007

I had frequent this restaurant for many months - but tonight was horrible. Pros: I use to be a loyal patron - but not anymore Cons: Waiter forgot us completely. more

Best in the Business 6/7/2005

My coworkers and I have gotten sick of going out for lunch everyday, so we decided to try Marathon Grills Corporate Catering. They faxed us over a menu with tons of great selections. Even Mary Ann, the office Vegetarian can't get enough of the vegetarian choices. We love Marathon Catering so much that we order from them just about everyday. I cannot wait for lunch tomorrow. Pros: Extensive Menu, Clean Atmosphere, Huge Portions more

Good fresh food here 3/30/2004

Very good turkey and grilled cheese sandwiches here. The fries are very good too. They haver a number of smoothie type health shakes too but I haven't tried them... more

Go for the OJ at least. 6/4/2003

I went here with a friend for breakfast. I kept picking at his homefries (which I wish I had ordered mmm mmm) and the fruit plate I ordered was FRESH. THe OJ was the hit for me though, fresh squeezed and natuarally sweet, the best I've ever had anywhere. The place is a little crowded, and a bit pricey, but the food was good. Pros: the OJ, go for the OJ Cons: crowded, a little pricey more

Hot Home Fries 1/29/2003

Good breakfast food, fast delivery, good prices, food still hot when delivered more

Not Bad 12/3/2002

I went here for lunch on a weekday and it was extremely crowded. If you don't mind that, or impersonal service and noise, it's not a bad place. The food was better than average (B) and priced fair. If you have a large group, make reservations if you can. Pros: Good Food, Priced Right Cons: Noisy, Crowded more

Dependable 10/28/2002

The Marathon Grill is very dependable. It's a good restaurant to go to if you have to take someone to lunch. They serve a variety of very good salads (the caesar dressing is homeade) and they will put chicken or shrimp on it if you like. They also make the best burgers and homeade fries. They run the gamut from burgers to filet of salmon. They are reasonable, service is generally prompt although they get busy at lunchtime, they do delivery and they are adaptable for kids. Pros: Good Caesars, Gourmet, Healthy Choices more

Yum-Yum 9/18/2002

I don't think anyone who visits or lives in Philadelphia could not pass this spot without going inside to enjoy the delicious meals they serve. They are one of the best on the east coast. They serve the best specials anywhere, along with the best chicken ceasar salad around. I truly enjoy each and every visit. Keep up the fantastic service. Pros: variety, has yogurt icecream Cons: need soy products, needs yogurt cheese more

The best service on earth 7/26/2002

I loved the service and the food. I would go back everyday for the rest of my life. Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Outside seating Cons: Parking more
