Watch your prices! otherwise good food. 12/5/2007

My wife and adult children had dinner last Sunday nite. This was our 5th or 6th visit and it was all pleasant until I got my bill and found that the charge for 2 bottles of wine was $4/bottle higher than listed on the wine list. When I questioned the charge, the owner brought me a wine list with higher prices and said that prices were change a year ago. I said that it wasn't the same list that I ordered from and that there must be an oid list around. The owner accused me of calling him a liar and left in a huff. I paid my bill of $178 for 5 people and left . I was looking for Mango Grove to honor the price that I had seen but it was not to be. The food was great and the attitude of the owner was that he didn't care about our concern. Pros: good parking, very tasty food Cons: servcie a little slow, the owner should not talk to customers. more

Columbia's best vegetarian restaurant. 11/1/2007

I've been going to Mango Grove for years. As a vegan, they are one of the only restaurants in the Columbia area where I can consistantly find good food. The food is excellently spiced, and never leaves me with a heavy feeling, evenwhen I've had a large portion. The management is friendly, and they seem to sincerely believe in the quality of their food. I especially recommend the Dal Curry, Channa Masala, Masala Dosai, and the Vegetable Biryani. more

Great Service, Great Indian Food 7/10/2007

Pros: Great food, service, selection, buffet, dosa Cons: Awkward parking lot, maybe hard to find if you don't know Columbia more

Outstanding lunch buffet 2/26/2007

Indian cuisine is among my favorites, and Mango Grove is one of my favorite Indian restaurants. I've been there several times for the lunch buffet, and always left with a full stomach and a smile on my face. The buffet is completely vegetarian, and often includes interesting dishes that I haven't seen at other Indian places. The desserts, too, go beyond the usual rice pudding, and are always delicious. (If you see the sheera on the dessert buffet, TRY IT. I don't care if you're diabetic, on a diet, deathly allergic to one of the ingredients - whatever. It may be the last thing you ever taste, but it'll be worth it.) Pros: Delicious food, reasonable prices, all vegetarian, wide selection, unusual dishes, great desserts Cons: None! more

WORST SERVICE EVER 1/13/2007

Went here on a weekday, and it was not busy for that size of the restaurnat. Pros: location Cons: service more

AVOID AT ALL COST 12/21/2006

I was in the mood for some Indian food but didn?t want to sit at a restaurant to eat so decided to look up local restaurants in Columbia, MD. Since I am a vegetarian and Mango Grove claims to be a vegetarian restaurant I looked at their online menu. I ordered Shahi Panneer (priced at 8.50 on line). I was not given my total on the phone and didn?t think to ask since I saw their pricing on line. Once I arrived at their location and looked at the bill it was 4 dollars higher then what?s posted on their website. Once I questioned the pricing the lady informed that that?s old pricing and they have not updated it. She also told me that if I had told her that I am ordering this off their website then she would have told me what the increased pricing is. She made me feel as if I did something wrong. She didn?t offer to honor the website price. Also, even though she is the owner, in order to avoid further discussion she told me that she only works there and will notify the owner after he gets back from India. I will never go back to this place because they do not care about their customers (especially Indian Customers). Even if the food is decent there is no excuse for poor service. I will also inform all my friends and family to avoid this place and hope you do the same. Cons: Horrible service and rudeness to customers more

Dont go to this place - EVER!!!! 10/19/2006

I have been to this restaurant twice in the last couple of months and both times the experience has been horrible. The service is prettty bad - Had ordered mango lassi and an apetizer which never arrived. The food took 45 mins and was horrible, and, after you are done with the food, you have to wait 20 mins for the cheque. They woudn't even bother about apologizing for being late. I am Indian and have a taste for good Indian food - believe me, this place is HORRIBLE and over priced. I guess you can find much better places in the DC metro area. Cons: Everything you can imagine more

I will not recomment this restaurant - Read why 5/20/2006

I am an India have a taste for Indian food. Belive me the quality of the Indian food that you get in Mango Grove is far below even with the average standards. I have been to Mango Grove 3 times now. Twice for a buffet (lunch) and once for dinner. The dinner experience was good the food was average but it was expensive. The buffet experience was terrible, the food was tasteless and over cooked. And the worst thing was the dishes were not clean. No one knew what items were on the hot plate as there were no name tags. To add to all this some of the items in the menu didn't taste like they were freshly prepared. This is my personal opinion people who do not agree should try the food once to judge. As for me this was the last time I went in Mango Grove. more

Outstanding Service & Great Food! 3/19/2006

I had to add a review after seeing all of the negative comments with regards to service. We went for an early dinner on Sunday afternoon after the buffet had closed. My dining partner and I had been there a couple of times prior, but only for the buffet (which was excellent, and a great way to sample a cuisine you're unfamiliar with). We decided to have a go at the menu and found our server to be a GREAT help explaining different dishes and offering suggestions. Our service was as outstanding as our meal. The Mango Grove is definitely worth a visit whether dining from the buffet or the menu. Pros: service, food Cons: decor more

Great lunch 3/13/2006

This is a great place to eat. I love the food and whenever I can. I love the lunch buffet but get there early (I think it ends at 3 or 3:30). Pros: Quality Food, Good Service more

So good especially for lunch!! 2/26/2006

This was one of the best south indian vegetarian restaurants I've been to. The staff was very helpful in explaining what certain dishes were. The food was wonderful!! Just make sure you get there close to the start of lunch time. Food goes quickly. Really just yummy!!! Pros: Inexpensive, Good parking, helpful staff more

Worst service one can ever find 1/16/2006

We were served spoilt chutney the first time around. When we informed the server, they just took it away. No replacement or apologies. We tried the restaurant one more time. We waited for couple of minutes to be seated. When we were about to sit the server was prompt in asking us to get our servings citing that it was closing time. If it was the closing time, they should have told us before getting seated. While taking the food, another person came to us and asked us to take all servings at once since they were about to clear off the buffet. When we complained about the bad service, we were told that they accommodated us only on a humanitarian basis. What humanitarian? I am paying for the food and service. I was charged $14 for Christmas special lunch buffet which did not have anything special. Never recommend mangogroove. Cons: Worst service more

Service ruined our experience 1/11/2006

We were greeted rather curtly. After ordering, I was asked if a substitution could be made for what I had ordered. I agreed. When we got our bill, we were surprised how high it was. We rechecked the menu and noticed a small note on the front cover saying that they add $1 to some entrees due to market price increases. Also to substitution that was made for my entree was $3 more than the one I had chosen. So my wife's entree was $1 more and mine was $4 more than we expected. Our bread order was also substituted and the bread portion was very small. When we questioned the bill, we perceived a bad attitude from the server. It was not a pleasant experience and we will not be returning. There are two other Indian restautrants nearby that we enjoy. Pros: Delicious food Cons: Service, Pricing more

Ask before your order 11/18/2005

I went with my family and friends and ordered Paneer Pasand, Gobhi Manchurian, Dal Makhani, Malai Kofta and eggPlant along with Lacha Paranth. To my surprise they don't server any item in serving bowls, just regualr size bowl which you usually have when you eat at home. Quantity, not sufficient even for single person. Its like gravy shot!!! Now taste, almost same as frozen food. Certainly Malai Kofta and Lachha Parantha were tasted like forzen food. Service, very rude, order anything and then wait forever, until you say ""Excuse Me"" I ordered 20 mins ago, there were hardly any customers at that time.Like I ordered garden salad, forget decoration of salad, just served me chooped onions with lemon and tomatoes. This was my first and last time at Mango Grove, Columbia, MA. If you don't expect quantiy, and service than you could also give them a try!!! Cons: Quantity, Price, service more

Decide for yourself 7/11/2005

Great Ambience. Wide variety of cuisine. Once we got seated it took close to 21 min. for someone to come to our table and take our order. Ten minutes later our drinks hadn't arrived. When my husband inquired about them, the gentlemen curtly said, ""there are other people before you, you'll have to wait your turn"". Drinks arrived 5 minutes later and food arrived minutes after that. Chana Chaat was excellent. There was no difference between the Gobi manchurian and chili paneer. The taste was EXACTLY the same. The spice level was the same even though they had been ordered at different spice levels. Mysore thali was ok, although the palak paneer taste was very similar to Ashoka canned palak paneer. We ordered 2 appetizers, 1 thali, 3 entrees, and 2 mango lassies and spent $90. I would've considered going back if the service wasn't so horrible. Pros: Ambience, Good Parking Cons: Service, Food, Expensive more

This restaurant is must for food lovers. I've not tasted better Vegetarian (Indian) Food any where in the US that even comes close to what is served in 'The Mango Grove'. The service is good and the menu is extensive - you should also try their deserts. Overall an A+. Non-vegetarians should also try their other 'Take Out/Sit Down' joint just across the street - ""Curry N Spice"" - Treffic Kabobs, Tandori Dishes etc. You should take home an order of their 'Lamb Biryani' a mixed rice concotion with lamb - superb food and real cheap. This place will do very well if it keeps up its superb food. Must visit. Pros: Terffic value, Great Service, Superb food more
