Inventive and Delicious 6/18/2006

Most Asian restaurants serve the same food as the ones in the next neighborhood. Not here. The dishes are complex and inventive, and not what you've seen dozens of times before. They're also delicious! Everything I've had has been good, so I can't make specific recommendations besides suggesting that you get one curry, since that seems to be their specialty. Returning here brings up the best dining dilemma, when you have to choose between getting what blew you away last time or trying something new. more

different and delicious 12/1/2005

The food here is delicious, and also very unusual. The dishes are more complex than at a standard thai restaurant, and they're always so good. Pretty interior, too. more

Great Asian food 11/29/2005

If you are looking for great Asian food consider Mandalay Cafe.I had the Sri Lankan Blacken Lamb Chops, it was great - next time though, I'm getting the Mandalay's Laksa, it was wonderful as well. more

Frustrating for the Loyal! 3/21/2005

We've been dining at Mandalay for 6 years or so and Erik and Janny have made a unique place. The dishes have generally been consistent, flavorful and spicy - better than most of the local Malaysian and Thai restaurants. We recommend the mussles or spiced lamb appetizers and the Cape Chicken and Malay Lamb curries. However, the changes over the last 3 years have been difficult - painful - for us. We understand that they are under some great competitive pressure, but their move from individualized plates to family style, with rice as a separate item, has confused us. We haven't even tried their wonderful soup since it stopped being served as a part of the standard set meal. As a result of these changes the servers have taken to longer explanations of "how we've changed". Ah well - my rant. Those who haven't tried Mandalay probably wouldn't even notice and will be blown away by the food. Beware of the spice with kids. Go for mild. more
