Worst stable ever AVOID 10/7/2013

\r \r \r UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW....UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW...UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW\r a couple of years ago I wrote a review bashing the quality of the care at Lynne's. I was recently invited to stop by, unannounced at anytime to see how the care of the horses has been upgraded. today i made an unannounced visit & was given a tour of the stable. I have to admit, I was impressed by the upgrade in care & the overall appearance of the stable The horses seemed very well cared for & the stalls & barn area were in excellent shape. The horses stalls were all very clean & well bedded with shavings. It seems that the stable has gone through a lot of positive changes and upgrades in both horse care & maintenance. I give strong props to Lynne's Riding School for making all of these great changes. I have no problem now recommending Lynne's to anyone looking to ride there or take lessons.\r Kenneth Lee more

Editorial review from Citysearch 1/9/2013

I have ridden at Lynne's on and off for 20 years now. I have also worked at her barn on and off for that time. I have worked at other barns in that amount of time. I can tell you, that in that time, she has had less riders fall off due to her incredible amount of safety precautions she takes with her riders. Not to mention the horses she uses. They are ridden exclusively by the workers and her more advanced riders to make sure they are beginner/intermediate safe before they are ever used for such riders, and some horses will never be a beginner horse!\r \r For anyone who has ever been in a barn, unless you a stripping the stalls on a daily or even weekly basis, you are never going to have the stalls white looking. The stalls are freshened as needed with new bedding. Old wet bedding and manure is taken out daily. Any GOOD horse person knows that a too dry stall is bad for your horses feet as well as a too wet stall. You should leave a bit of wet to mix in with new bedding to keep moisture in. I don't know any barn that doesn't. If they tell you they don't then they are lying to you.\r \r I have been to barns that give you ""X"" amount of bedding a week for your horse and if your horse wets through it before the next cycle, then oh well..too bad. The horse either has nothing to lay on or you PAY more for more bedding. Lynne on the other hand, gives your horse bedding AS NEEDED!!\r \r As for the mixing old wet with new, she no longer does that. She used to, yes, but does not anymore. I believe that is something from the past they used to do to have the bedding spread further. It is no longer in practice and hasn't been for over 2 years now. \r \r All the horses are in good health. They are clean. They are fed 4-5 times a day. I often exercise the horses, especially during the winter when the riders are less since many don't want to ride in the cold. Let me tell you, if she is giving them tranquilizers, they sure don't act it! They have tons of energy to spare, thats why I am on them, or lunging them in the morning before lessons, otherwise, why bother if we are just going to drug them?\r \r I don't know what instructor would tell anyone to ""grip with their knees"" but I know that is totally wrong and I am sorry to the person who was told that. I wish you would come back. \r \r Anyway, if anyone wants to see anything for themselves, especially potential boarders, please, give us a call. We are happy to have you come and see what we offer. more

I have been going to Lynne's Riding School for several years now, and in my opinion it is an excellent place for both beginners and more advanced students to learn and grow. more

A Fabulous Place to be for both Horses and Students 1/3/2011

I have been riding here for 6 years and I love it. All the instructors have very firm understandings of riding technique and each of the instructors spends time to convey these techniques in ways that students can understand and employ. I am currently a freshman in college at a school whose equestrian program is very competitive. I take lessons as a class and I am one of the few freshmen who is allowed to canter because of the fabulous instruction I received at Lynne's Riding School that allowed me to own a wonderful seat and wonderful command of whatever horse I am riding. If you would like to learn how to ride effectively, Lynne's Riding School is a great place to be. more

Poor lessons - save your money and go elsewhere 12/5/2010

I've never boarded a horse there, but I can certainly understand the review given earlier by a boarder. As an adult beginner, Lynne's lessons were a total waste of money. Her instructors have absolutely no idea what they're doing. After taking some lessons from her I moved on to other riding stables, where properly qualified teachers give lessons. One example of the poor technique taught at her classes was her insistence that riders ""grip with their knees."" That's a formula for getting dumped. You want to maintain balance in the saddle. Also Lynne's attitude was extremely poor, totally nasty, so again I was not surprised by the earlier review by the boarder. Save your money and ride elsewhere. more

A wonderful learning experience 10/19/2008

I am - or I should say, was - an adult beginner when I started with Lynne a year ago. Since then I have learned so much and really re-trained myself to ride with proper balance, coordination and control. Lynne is a talented teacher. Her barn is clean and her horses seem happy and well-kept to me. Although the ring is a little small, that is always true for New York City arenas, and you can go into Forest Park and ride the trails there. This place is happy and fun. I'm a fan! Pros: excellent instruction, good horses, multiple riding options, clean barn Cons: slightly small indoor arena more

A wonderful horseback riding experience! 8/17/2007

If you want to learn to ride correctly and safely, Lynn's is the place to be!!!! Her horses are wonderfully maintained with loving care. When my daughter expressed a desire to learn to ride, Lynn's was the ONLY place I would consider. Pros: Friendly , kind, safe staff. Horses beautifully maintained Cons: parking is a little tight, but never a problem. more
