Best

Foods fantastic,Bartender and waiters welcome you and Al the ower is always there to help... These guys are great . I say is the best kept secret in NY

Worst

One night, I got a craving for paella and headed over to this place with a friend. What a mistake. The rice was right out of a box (and undercooked), the sausage was too salty...

Extremely bad tapas... 2/27/2009

Service was OK. But, the food was severely lacking...we ordered tapas to share...only one out of five were even edible...croquettes were cold; octopus was undercooked; still not sure why they put a slice of american cheese (looked like kraft singles) on stuffed piquillo peppers. Maybe the Portuguese specialties are better...but, after such an awful experience with the tapas, I will not be going back to find out. Also not much of a wine selection... Pros: location Cons: Food! more

DON'T BOTHER 6/28/2008

Sorry, but the sangria for $25 is a small pitcher of colored water with ice, that had absolutely no flavor and very little wine in it....the portions of the chicken dishes were small, and the tapas totally unimaginative and served like they were just defrosted..most without any flavor...this is certainly a place you can miss...I think people are catching on, as they were not busy on a Saturday evening..... Pros: Easy to get in o a Saturday night Cons: Now I know why more

the worse food in nyc 9/1/2007

i don't like nothing about this place ,the food was really bad the portions very small and not even close to true portuguese food .Don't waste money and time to go there more

had a great breakfast here! 2/2/2007

Wandering the neighborhood seeking a good breakfast, and saw they served brunch. I ordered the Portuguese breakfast, which was really excellent. Eggs scrambled with traditional sausage, served with delicious garlicky beans, a bit of salad, and proper bread. I'll be back again for that! more

WTH? 5/31/2006

Is this what passes for tapas on the UWS? I couldn't understand WHY there were so many people in there. It tasted as if all the parts of the dish were cooked seperately and then thrown into the same bowl, only moment before serving it. We had to add salt to everything. None of the flavors melded together at all. more

Are you kidding? 5/27/2006

We were in the mood for tapas and sangria on the UWS, read some reviews, and went to Luzia's. We really blew it. The "homemade" crab cakes were clearly out of a box and the chorizo was dry and served with yellow mustatd (at a tapas bar?). Don't waste your time with the ham croquettes; you're better off with mozz sticks at the bar next door. Plus, there may or may not have been booze in the sangria. All in all, it's not worth it. Pros: service Cons: tapas more

Best Tapas bar in NYC 7/5/2005

Incredible if you order the right thing 2/21/2005

I stumbled upon Luzia's about two weeks ago, and I love it. Granted, there were a couple of cons. Some of the entrees are overpriced (not all). And the first time I went, they were short in the kitchen. To make up for it, however, the bartender served us a bottle of wine, no charge. He's also Cuban and makes the best mojito I've ever had, as well as incredible champagne sangria. Also - the tapas menu isn't overpriced. Try the croquetas or the jamon serrano and manchego cheese (both are true Spanish favorites). The churrasco is fantastic as well. I've heard that Luzia's ownership changed hands within the past couple of years...so if you haven't been in a while, go back - the food was great. And I hear they have Happy Hour from 4-7 pm Monday-Friday with free tapas. Pros: delicious, authentic dishes Cons: small, a little pricey more

Brunch, baby! 7/4/2003

In response to an earlier poster, this is NOT a spanish tapas place!!! It's portuguese -- that's different. Anyhow, the brunch here is killer -- cheap, FABULOUS french toast -- fat slices with fresh fruit -- to DIE for and totally cheap! &7.95!!! Ditzy but friendly waitstaff, cheesy/campy decor -- great bargain. Beats the hell our of a lot of the more pretentious UWS brunch spots... Pros: FRENCH TOAST!, Cost, outdoor seating Cons: smallish, spotty waitstaff more

Paella mistake 4/23/2003

One night, I got a craving for paella and headed over to this place with a friend. What a mistake. The rice was right out of a box (and undercooked), the sausage was too salty as were the shrimp, lobster and clams. I was disappointed. My appetizer of shrip in a garlic wine sauce was very good. For a Spanish tapas restaurant, it was a bit expensive and the wait staff were a bit rude. If you have a craving for paella and live on the Upper West Side, head downtown. Pros: fast service Cons: rude wait staff, disappointing food, expensive more

Nice place, mediocre... 10/25/2002

The atmosphere of the place is nice as well as the location, but I found food mediocre and too expensive for the quality offered. I do recommend it for the 'ambience', for good portuguese food try others. Pros: nice atmosphere, good location Cons: mediocre food, 'old' crowd more
