Great neighborhood Bar and weekend dance club 1/7/2010

Lumpy's Highland is a totally different bar than the Downtown Lumpy's . This is Lumpy's Highland. There is no dance floor upstairs, the dance floor is in the basement and it's fun top 40 stuff you've heard . I think 2 of the 3 negative reviews on here are for the downtown location. If you don't like loud music this is the place for you . If you do like loud music this is the place for you . Two very different levels have everything you could want in a locals bar. I like this bar because you can dress pretty much however you want and fit right in age range is 21-85 . A classic American Bar have fun! Pros: Sports packages, Dance floor, Great food, Nice staff Cons: None really it's a great place more

Lumpys - Longstanding Members 4/30/2009

Lumpys is a longtime Sugarhouse (area) hangout that still maintains the best Utah fan base in town. Pre and post game during football season is great. Don't expect to establish much of a rapport with the door guy since each seens to last about a week, and many of the servers act like you're lucky to be there. (I flamed one earlier, but she probably needs all the help she can get in this economy.) Go, enjoy, & drive safely! Pros: convenient - close to home Cons: stale - same old same old more

worst bar in salt lake 8/28/2008

You knowyour in a bad bar when the bartendar does not know what bourbon is. She was so rude and abnotious I could not believe it. She tried pawning off high end bourbon (really crown) through a gun. She made several over pours and tried charging me for them. If Lumpy's hires dumb bitches like that it is no wonder there was only a handful of people inside. Pros: can't think of one cause I was made Cons: no knowledge bartenders, rude, very slow service more

Not the place to dance. 5/29/2008

So, when a friend said we are going to "Lumpy's" I said "what, that's the name?" and just judging by that only, I was worried. We showed up, and the big fat bouncer on crutches was rude to my girlfriend, really rude, and upon a simple conversation told her to go find another place. Should have taken his advice. We ended up staying all of maybe 30min. I had to laugh at the "dudes" upstairs, not one dancing, just standing there on one side of the room eye-raping the skanky girls "dancing" on the other side of the room. My girlfriends comment was "I feel like I've read too many books to be in here". I assume if you're a dude who likes to stair at those types of girls, and watch Sports Center at the same time, it'd be a pretty good time for you. But if you are looking to dance, not advisable to go to a place called Lumpy's. good luck. Pros: Um, lots of tvs Cons: morons, tasteless girls, and over-inflated egos more

good 7/3/2006

This is the Ute Athlete hang out. Very diverse. plays reggae. tons of fights. 3 levels, dance floor upstairs, tvs in booths. very nice club. more

Great Place 1/1/2003

The only review this bar needs is your own. Go check it out. Pros: Great people, new thing every night, lots a liquer more

Go Utes 12/29/2002

If you are a Ute, Jazz or any fan this is the place for you. Great atmosphere and the most friendliest people. Upstairs is great for a "cocktail hour" and/or hanging out with your Best Friend. Like Sports and good food, take a date! Head on downstairs if your feelin' like some pool, looking to dance, or want to hang out with a younger crowd. All the dance clubs better watch out for Lumpys when the weekend comes. The downstair's has a great new floor with Liquer and Beer Logos all over. All TV's up and down are in great places so that anyone, anywhere can see. This should be your regular home!! Pros: Location, Environment, Service Cons: Parking more

Lumpy's Rocks 10/28/2002

It's a great place to watch ANY game. The staff is extremely friendly, the patrons are quick to sponsor the non-member when needed (but don't even think of asking the bartender or waitress - they definitely won't). TV's everywhere, music downstairs for those who want it; sports upstairs for those who just want to catch the game! GREAT PLACE more

Not a sports bar 9/19/2002

I will never set foot in this bar again. Unless, you are a Ute fan you shouldn't either. My last experience was when I asked the bartender to put a game of national importance on, instead of Utah-Weber St. He was rude and said this was a Utah bar even though there was not a single Utah fan in the bar. Cons: service, service, service more

Eclectic equals fun 5/19/2002

This place is eclectic, but not in that typical sense of the word that is really just a substitute for "snobby." Here, it means that old folks in shorts drink next to young guys with long goatees. People from all walks rub elbows here. Not to mention all the lovely young things that show up for karaoke nights. Yow! Pros: good drinks, basement/upstairs Cons: sometimes too crowded more

Editorial
  • The Scene
It's like Thanksgiving dinner with extended family: The adults' table is upstairs, where older ladies and gents talk sports and tell off-color jokes; the kids' table is downstairs, where the college-age crowd sings rousing renditions of anything by Gloria Gaynor, plays pool or dances to whatever party-happy selections the DJ chooses.

    The Draw
But Lumpy's is first and foremost a sports bar. The place gets packed when a big game is on, so arrive early to get a seat. During college basketball season, take a fun bus with a crowd of regulars to the Ute game and back. Expect the typical salads, sandwiches and burgers, but there's also prime rib on Friday. Karaoke on Tuesday and Thursday, live DJ on Friday and Saturday, and the Blue Boutique's Naughty Nurses Fashion Show on Thursdays at 10pm.
