very rude manager and poor service 10/22/2007

On Oct 21, 2007, I setup a 10:30A brunch with friends to meet my mom who was visiting from out of town. None of us had ever been to this restaurant but most of the reviews sounded promising. Upon arrival, we stood in the front to await someone to sit us. I saw a manager running around who kept zipping past us in & out the door trying to bus tables and serve guests. When I realized we'd been standing there a while (about 8 min) and no one had approached to at least ask about our party size, I tried to intercept him. I said ""excuse me..."" and he spoke over his shoulder ""yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...I'm getting to you, I'm getting to you."" It was very snide, very rude and very much like as if he was inconvenienced by me and annoyed I'd done it. Other people in my party noticed and thought the same. Pros: very rude manager and poor service Cons: outdoor seating more

bean counters... 6/7/2006

we should have known better than to eat here when the man said ""we can make you eggs benedict but without the hollandaise sauce."" but i was very hungry and wanted to make it to folk art museum before it closed. the height of the disappointment was when my friend was served only 10 black beans in her omelette (i'm not kidding - only 10!) and when she asked for more, the waiters had to hold a conference and then send over the head waiter for an omelette inspection before coughing up more beans. this is the worst meal i have ever had in new york city. -- and they only serve champaign by the glass and not the bottle - whoever heard of such a thing? more

Respite from the Hilton 10/16/2002

Food is good, plentiful, and surprisingly imaginative for a small cafe. Breakfast is an especially good deal. The staff is unfailingly pleasant and welcoming and the desserts are killer. What is especially nice is the contrast of Lou's pleasant attitudes and good value with the Hilton Towers' bad attitude and worse service. In the course of a week's stay at the Hilton we dined at Lou's several times and the walk accross the street was more than rewarded. If weather permits it is fun to sit at one of the sidewalk tables and people watch. Pros: friendly service, reasonable prices, great desserts Cons: decor lacking more
