Ordered Sesame Chicken and Kung Pao Chicken. \r \r Kung Pao is listed on the menu as "spicy". However, the dish had absolutely no spice or flavor for that matter. The chicken was flaky (to the point it was falling apart) but had no chicken flavor. Based on this it was precooked and kept in a steamer until it was put in a order. The "sauce" was a watery and bland concoction that was pale and generally pointless, the only notable flavor was of peanuts that were placed on top of the dish and were not part of the sauce.\r \r Sesame Chicken was likewise very pale, watery, and had very little flavor (but a step up from the Kung Pao) the chicken in Sesame Chicken is fried, which this was, but it also seemed to have no chicken flavor at all. Did they leave this is a steamer too? \r \r Portions were substantial and the Kung Pao had a nice mix of steamed vegetables. Too bad I couldn't force it down. \r \r I've had OK Chinese in south Florida, I've had very good Chinese in south Florida. I wanted something closer to home which is why I tried Lotus. I won't go back.... Fool me one shame on you... Fool me twice, shame on me. more

Bland, Unappetizing, Cold Service 9/4/2010

A friend and I ate there last night. We live in the area. Unfortunately we both ordered the Shrimp and Lobster Sauce. The 4 Shrimp were fresh and ok, but the ""Lobster Sauce"" was a murky mess of cornstarch and Lemon...very odd and awful. I got the pork fried rice with it, and that was equally dull. I had to use tons of soy sauce to flavor it up. The service is so cold in this place. Nobody smiles or says hello, and they certainly don't ask ""How is everything""? They probably don't ask that because they know they are serving crap and don't want to hear the truth. Anyhow, it will be my last visit. more

ordered take out szeschuan shrimp....szeschuan sauce came in a separate container from the frozen sesame seed coated shrimp. the sauce was like a syrup with funky aftertaste. over the rice it was an inedible emulsion and i tossed it all in the garbage. more

In general, South Florida has *awful* Chinese food. Lotus's Orange Beef is the best dish I've found around. more

Best Chinese in South Florida 8/16/2008

My wife and I have been vacationing to the Fort Lauderdale / Miami area for the past 15 years. We have been eating at Lotus Chinese Kitchen for 15 years now. We always come back because the quality of the food and service is excellent. We do not leave Florida and return to Michigan without eating here at least once per vacation. We love it because it is a local favorite and not a ""chain restaurant"". The egg rolls are my favorite and the spicy mustard sauce is perfect. I asked for my entree to be extra spicy and got just that. The shrimp and the vegetables were very fresh for our last lunch there. We always dine in and have not had the carry-out. We always leave full and recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal at a great price. I like my food extra spicy and the wife likes mild. They always make it perfect. Pros: Plenty of Parking, fresh food more

Best Chinese around 3/25/2008

Been going there for years. They burned down many years ago & took a while to re-build. In the meantime a Chinese take-out opened across the street. When Lotus re-opened, they put the new place out of business! Good value. Never gotten a wrong order - very efficient. We order mostly carry out but have dined in. Almost all Chinese staff. They make their own hot mustard! Very fresh. Pros: Efficient - tasty more

Fort Lauderdale's best Chinese food! 9/13/2007

I've been going there for years and never had bad food. The wings are my favorite! The restaurant is a little bit old but the food and price makes up for it. Take out is extremely fast and fresh too, not like the big chains where you have to wait over an hour to pick up your order. Pros: Fast service and very good parking. more

Not sure about the hype 5/21/2006

When I moved here, several folks ""highly recommended"" this place. My wife and I have since given it several tries and I really am confused as to what all they hype is about this place. The food is mediocre and as far as take out chineese goes, the prices aren't that competitive. To top it off, they've raised thier prices two times in the past year and a half. Another negative trait is that they don't deliver which really blows me away. Their dinning room rates pretty low in terms of ambience so clearly their not targeting folks who intend to dine in yet they expect you to come pick it up. What gives? Pros: Good parking Cons: Mediocre Food, No Delivery, Not cheap more
